  1. Agreed. I'm playing Stem the Tide now, PBEM, as the Americans. The fun is in being outnumbered and outgunned and just trying to hold on by your fingernails! This one turned into a close range knife fight with the kitchen sink thrown in as well. Super good times! I'm losing but I am fighting as hard as I can and getting great enjoyment just seeing how long I can hang on! I find realistic scenarios, regardless of odds, much more fun than balanced.
  2. I will just add by saying, the Soviet Campaign is definitely NOT noob friendly. Actually it's just plain, downright, not friendly at all.
  3. Just dl'ed and completely love this mod. Thanks so much!
  4. Just won this as the Soviets and it was super fun. You really do have to play it doctrinally, take the losses but secure the objective. It was a blast!
  5. Ok, so the first five are at Shiloh, Tennessee. I spent all day there but only posted these pics around the Sunken Road (which is not sunken as you see and no one really knows why it got that name) and Hornet's Nest. Shiloh is one of my favorites in that it is still in the middle of nowhere and the battlefield looks pretty much as it did back at that time. It's ironic how beautiful and peaceful these places are now when they were the scenes of so much death and destruction. The next four are from Vicksburg, Mississippi and Grant's incredible campaign. The second Vicksburg picture you can still see the trenches dug by Union soldiers a bit in the distance behind the line of guns. Vicksburg was the last major battlefield that I had yet to visit. It's kind of out of the way to get to unless you are specifically going there so it was always just out of reach. It's now one of my favorites. Vicksburg is truly remarkable and powerful. Most of the works and trenches are all still there and have been preserved as well. It's impressive. The last pic of the Vicksburg four is from the Confederated perspective in the Square Fort. You can see the monuments marking the Union line across the way. In between was all no-man's land. They were that close for the 47 days of the siege. The final pictures are from Franklin, Tennessee which fascinates me more than almost any other battle. The town of Franklin has swallowed up the battlefield over time but there has been some amazing restoration and now the Carter House and Yard and the area around the Pike and where the Cotton Gin used to be are now all open and preserved. If you notice, in the picture of the guns pointed out at road, the line of gravel in some of these pics is what marks the location of where the Federal works were. These pictures, this small little area, saw some of the most absolutely brutal fighting of the whole war and in only 5 hours. There were 7,500 Confederates shot down in front of the Union works where the Union only lost around 2,500. It was the crushing blow that pretty much ended the Army of Tennessee. The Carter Farm office is the white building and has been preserved down to the bullet holes still being there. I did a private tour and was let into the office to get the picture of the light coming through the holes.
  6. Thanks! The diorama/painting was at the park main office. The figures are incredibly well done and it blends perfectly with the painting behind it. It's actually the opposite, it's the Union soldiers holding back repeated attacks on the Hornet's Nest at Shiloh. The first five pictures are the Sunken Road at Shiloh and the thicket you see in the distance is the Hornet's Nest. I have been to soo many battlefields and I take so much time walking them. One of my favorite getaways, especially when you have read and know what happened in these places.
  7. Trying again... Hey all, I am an avid student of the ACW and have reenacted for years as well as taken many battlefield trips. Over the years I have visited tons of them and have been to almost all of the majors and many of the minors. Two weeks ago I took another and finally visited one I have been dying to see but never had been to before. Here's a couple pics. Bonus points if you can name the battlefields where these were taken. I walked in some truly inspiring and powerful places.
  8. Ok, just figured out how to post them correctly, redoing.
  9. I can't figure it out. I uploaded them to Imgbb.com and then hit embed, copied the link, tried to put it in on the "Other Media" tab and it wouldn't go and when I pasted the link directly here it just showed the link. Grr.

  11. Somehow I scored a minor victory on Heroes of the 205th which then gave me a total victory for the campaign! I'll take it. And this guy was my campaign warhorse.
  12. No, it doesn't. I am just saying that they have done a lot of work across the campaign so far and should be considered hardened veterans regardless of status. It would be cool if they actually stayed the same names and did increase experience levels across the campaign. This whole campaign has been SO fun. It's actually Heroes of the 205th. There are three bridges, left, right and middle. I finally took out the Ukrainian T-80 on the middle bridge. Of course the T-72 with only two crew members (pic next to the T-90) swung around and got a flank shot on him. Both hit each other twice in that duel and somehow, once again, my T-72 survived. I have 30 minutes left and am finally trying to get across the river on the left. I honestly think this one T-72 has knocked out about 8 tanks and 10 vehicles so far along with countless soldiers. I will see at the end of this one.
  13. Digging them out the hard way. The T-72 tank dance, shoot and scoot. Every one of my tanks in this campaign has been hit multiple times and been saved by either their arena aps or ERA armor. The T-72s shrug off hits left and right. They give me false confidence. When one does brew up though, boy do they go. Two of my T-72s are down to just driver and gunner (lost commanders the last battle or two) and still are doing a fantastic job sticking in the fight.
  14. The Push to Dniprodzerhyn'sk. Battle 4 or 5, the struggle has been so fierce I can't remember which anymore. I so enjoy the playing the Russians and all their kit... The core unit T-72s with their BMP-3M infantry support has been superb so far.
  15. Haha! So it goes... I still have yet to play the Citadel standalone mission. I keep putting it off as a treat for sometime soon. Plus I really want to get into the Soviet campaign now, but that first mission, whew. That one puts you right back on your heels! Ha! I really enjoyed the campaign even ending where I did. It all just felt "right". I do think it should be difficult for the US to pull off and it sure felt it as it went on! CW is awesome.
  16. So I haven't really fought anyone PBEM since CMBB, where I actually battled it out with an opponent in Sweden for 7 years of sending turns back and forth. We fought longer than the actual Soviets and Germans did. Anyway, I've played tons of the modern stuff since and have been itching to fight another human again. I really would be interested in starting up something in either CMBS or CMCW if anyone is interested? I don't mind which side, I like playing all of them. I do very much enjoy both the Soviet and modern Russian kit. I also have a dropbox so turn exchange should be a snap.
  17. This one is so tough because ultimately it's more about what mood I am looking for. That being said, I adore Black Sea. Modern is just so much different and "better" in my opinion. I really do fight different too depending on what side I am playing. As the Americans it's so much fun to play with the tech and you really do fight a precision, high tech, low casualty, surgical type warfare that is noticeable. However, on the other hand and to me, whenever I play the Russians or the Ukrainians it devolves down into some real bloody destructive warfare. I guess I am less cautious with both and fight to their doctrines. I really really enjoy playing both and have a thing for the Russian/Soviet tanks. I love the modern T-72, as blind as it is, it does a superb job. T-90s are just as fun and then playing the Ukrainian modern T-64s and 80s just does it for me. Second, the BMP-3M. I just LOVE the thing and it's insane firepower. Too much fun. I am ANXIOUSLY awaiting new content for Black Sea, can't wait. I have a saved file of somewhere along in the Russian campaign of a T-90 backing up, under fire, shrugging off 3 incoming rounds with the ARENA system, and killing two and damaging a third UKR tank all in one minute, going backwards with all hell breaking loose in every direction. Survived the whole thing without a scratch. Good times. I can only imagine the crew freaking out at their luck. But running closely behind all this is my love for SF2 as well. All the different armies as well as the USMC is always soo much fun. And now Cold War has immediately vaulted up very high as well. I am highly anticipating more additions to come for CW too. The funny thing is this all goes back to CM1 and playing only WWII. Now, I hardly ever play WWII stuff. Modern all the way now.
  18. I just recently started the German SF2 campaign as well. Currently revisiting that one, Task Force Thunder, the British campaign and Task Force Narwick all at the same time. I am playing the whole invasion, hehe. Anyway, I really love the Germans as well and agree that the Marder is way is up there for me also. That little 20mm autocannon has a hell of a bite as well as a bark. 3 or 4 all blazing away at once is something to see, and hear! The squad MG3 is also impressive (being basically still the MG42) and for their smaller squad size and vehicles they sure do have a LOT of firepower and I find them completely interesting to play. I mean one platoon of Panzergrenadiers with their Marders can really lay down some hurt. The modern panzerfaust, I think you will find, is also VERY effective in multiple situations.
