  1. Haha!! This is awesome! Super excited to try these out! And yep, totally agree on the LUCK thing. Bannon had it in spades to be sure. I was impressed how much your first map was the sketch in the book, like exactly! Really looking forward to the rest, and thanks for doing it.
  2. True. I've never made a scenario or designed a campaign so I have no idea what it would entail. It does seem a lot of things came down to luck in the book. I do think it could still be fun. I think of Bannon and Garger's run through the Soviet occupied town after the battle on Hill 214 and yeah, that would be difficult to realistically survive but it sure was entertaining! And what did the Mech Platoon face in that battle, like a whole company? Or wasn't it even more? You're probably right.
  3. Which, the first scenario? Captain Bannon had no Bradleys at any time in the book. His Mech Platoon was always in M113s. Maybe at one point near the end there was a platoon of Bradley's helping them out or maybe Bannon was just talking about them? I can't remember, but I do know that Team Yankee itself never had Bradleys.
  4. Please do make scenarios for all of the battles! This one was fun, though a slaughter. The book was great and it would be awesome if someone did a campaign of all of Team Yankee's battles. Thanks for this one!
  5. I will indeed let you know. However, on first run it crashed my little laptop out. I am getting a new desktop next month that will run everything fine so I may have to wait til then. I'm going to give it another go though... Update, so I just loaded it up and ran a couple turns and it works (be it a little laggy) fine right now, so I think I'm good to go.
  6. OK SPOILERS AHEAD... #2 was just as nail biting as the first one. I did realize right away that this one was all about the reverse slope defense on the highway and over on the left I pulled everyone back across the road into the treeline and moved them far right and left of the approach road creating a crossfire point. I had it all mined and pre=sighted at the bend and down the farm fence. Both teams did well but the platoon on the left eventually was wrecked by the end. I only had 2 survivors. A couple of my M113s were also knocked out. The engineers did fine in their foxholes and half a team with the Dragon knocked out a few of the enemy APCs. The rest were killed by mines and the infantry squad on the left with their Dragon. My two squads on the right with the TOW M113s did much better hunkering down in their foxholes and waiting with target arcs out to the crest of the ridge. As expected, pretty much everything coming over that ridge was subjected to Dragon missiles, TOW missiles and pre-sighted mortars. I also had the mines set up to stop things right at the ridge and then have the arty come down on top. It worked very well. The only problem there was the Soviet artillery that still managed to find me in certain spots. I lost one of my TOW M113s to it as well as some of the men. The foxholes offered pretty good protection though with my men on Hide. One of my other M113s was also KO'd by one of the tanks cresting the ridge who got in a bit closer by coming down through a bunch of smoke. He didn't last long though. Overall it was pretty epic and I felt I did ok other than losing pretty much the whole infantry squad on my left.
  7. No. Evening, fog, dusk-ish. One platoon ambushing a pursuing Soviet FSE. The objective is to defend the highway and crossroad and bloody their noses as much as possible. I have about 12 minutes remaining and I'm hanging in by tooth and nail. I have to say that Soviet artillery certainly does it's job. I cringe so hard when I hear incoming.
  8. I will not try to drop any spoilers! I just finished the first mission with a major US victory and I still can't believe it was a major victory. That battle was, how shall we say...harrowing? I lost more than I wanted to so we will see how that plays out. I just started up the second mission. As the first battle was just so much fun in feeling out where the Soviets were and how to get my troops back safe, this second one is entirely a whole different world. Literally. We'll see how this goes. No plan survives first contact and this one has me completely nervous... I haven't had so much fun playing any CM title since I don't know when. I'm completely pulled back into Black Sea now too and, of course, I had to also get the Fire and Rubble pack. Mwuhahaha! Now, if you can please, let's all cross our fingers and pray to the gods of war that brave lonely 2nd Platoon can pull this little gambit off.
  9. I get an "out of memory" error when trying to load the Czechmate scenario. All other scenarios play fine. This one crashes to desktop with the out of memory error. Any ideas why?
  10. Omg I wasn't wearing my glasses!! Kidding, kidding...ha! I tried your fix too IanL, that wasn't it. Funny though, I still get the blur even in the lowest resolution, 1024-768. Oh well, no biggie. I'm going to get a new desktop soon, that should resolve it.
  11. Ok, this all makes sense. I do have an Nvidia and my FXAA antialiasing is off so it's definitely a resolution thing. And yep, I'm running on a laptop right now. Thank you for the info!
  12. Hi all, This is for CMCW. I have a glitch where in the control panel/info panel anywhere there are two letters next to each other like mm in the 5.45mm and even with some individual letters they get a weird blur out. So anywhere there are mm text it's instead two boxes that are blurred. Is there something I can do to fix this? My old eyes are bad enough as it is, lol! Does this make sense or anyone else getting this glitch? Actually the same thing happens with any CM game.
  13. I am actually finding the medium sized scenarios to be quite manageable on this one and I don't really know why compared to the other titles. I don't usually do large as it starts to get to be too much micromanaging for me too and I get lazy and start to make mistakes. But on CMCW all the medium battles I've played so far play better than even the small ones. I really love the balance I'm seeing in this game and the pacing too, which directly ties in to the battle sizes for me. Everything about this game hits the sweet spot for me, I absolutely love it.
  14. Oh this looks good and interesting too! There still is something special about a tabletop game.
  15. Holy crap! It was Fireteam!! Thank you so much for that, I was going crazy trying to think of it!
  16. I feel you. And didn't even realize it either. I think that's one of the reasons I really CMA too. This timeframe really does have more familiarity to me than even the modern stuff.
  17. Ack! No it wasn't Red Storm Rising the game. It took place in Europe, and was definitely a Fulda Gap breakthrough "what if". It had a couple maps I think, or at least it was a big reversible map I seem to recall. I wish I could think of it, I even tried googling a bunch of games but can't seem to find it. It was more set up for platoon up to company sized engagements I think. That's why it hooked me early and young. It wasn't so big that I couldn't get my head around it. I'm just going to have to say one more time how much I am LOVING CMCW. I've played a few scenarios now and am building up to the campaigns. I am actually finding medium sized scenarios very doable and enjoyable on this title as well! I have to say, sitting in an M60 and watching a Soviet MRB come over the hills and down the valleys is just so...epic. Then the TOW missiles begin their meandering flights out....
  18. That's very cool that you served during this time period and now get to actually play it with all the equipment of the era. Amazing! I think that's partially why this game is clicking so close to home with me too. I remember when I was about 12 or 13, so 82-83 and one of my first tabletop hex wargames was an Avalon Hill (I think) Cold War, NATO vs. USSR game. The cardboard chits were red and blue and had pics of the tanks and vehicles on them and all the goodies that this game has. I wish I could remember the name of it but it was one of the first games that really hooked me into wargaming. I keep thinking of that game while I play this one. Plus one of the first Clancy books I ever red and loved was Red Storm Rising. Needless to say, growing up during the 70s and 80s really makes this game feel like the one I've been missing. I haven't had such a good time as well as putting so much time into a CM game in forever. I may even play a couple PBEM games again. I think another thing I love is the slow flight of the ATGM missiles and how you hold your breath watching them lazily fly out and take their time getting on target. So NOT Javelin missiles, ha! I was just playing a mission where two Soviet ATGMs scored kills at over 2km. That was so fun watching those missiles fly out forever. This game has atmosphere all over it. I mean c'mon, I can just spend ten minutes just looking at M60 and M48 Patton tanks from all angles! I also love the orange magazines on the Soviet AK-74s too. Everything about this version is just sweetness and I honestly have just as much fun playing either side. The infantry on infantry firefights with their APCs are just awesome so far and feel so different from the modern games. Honestly, I think I'm digging playing the Soviets even a bit more than the US forces. Dare I even hope that we get some add-ons to this in other NATO country units? That would be epic. Anyway, seriously, thanks for this one. It really is my favorite of all so far and I've been playing these games since the very beginning. I wasn't even going to buy it at first but kept looking at screenshots, reading the AARs and then I had to have it. So glad I decided to jump back in.
  19. Hey all, I had strayed away from our beloved CM for awhile and then noticed a few weeks ago that Cold War had come out! What a surprise and something I never thought would happen from the previous talk of it. Anyway, finally sprung for it and man! I do think this is my favorite CM game yet! I don't know what it is or why but it just seems paced and balanced so nicely. I really really enjoyed Afghanistan back in the day and I really like playing around with the Soviets as well as the NATO forces. I'm just blown away by how much this has hooked me. I love CMBS but it's SO DEADLY and more difficult because of all the modern pin-point accuracy. CMCW just hits the sweet spot. How do you all rank this one with the rest of the CM family?
  20. That did the trick. Nothing to see here, move along.
  21. Trying a different Zip extractor. I think that may be the problem.
  22. I can't install CMCW. I downloaded the file and extracted to my desktop. The files are all synced with one drive and are there. I try to install and it stops and says it can't find the installer which is right there on my desktop. Please help, this is so frustrating.
  23. I was trying to find the answer in the long thread but can I play all my games now on Steam without re-purchasing them? Is there a way to use my key or something? Thanks in advance.
