  1. I'd like to see turrets blown off and tanks flipped over as well, but I doubt it will happen in CMBB, hard to code. But man, I would love to see a MkIV go to sh!t when its attacked by a Il-2, something other than the 'mopey turret' we get now. True, you get the fireball and the brew-up effect regularly, but some more destructive eye-candy would be kickass.
  2. Well, OK, if you cant copy, maybe 'recreate' the sounds. At any rate, it would be cool to hear reloads. Reloads and Russian drinking songs. When a squad of Russian infantry is unmolested for maybe five minutes, they break out the vodka rations and get loose. [ 12-02-2001: Message edited by: Dogface21 ]</p>
  3. It would be super cool for AT and other on map guns to have a reload sound too. Hear the casing slip out the breach, the order to reload( in Russian!) and the next shot ramming home and locked in, FIRE! You could copy (at least for the Germans) the sounds from the movie When Trumpets Fade for reloading 88's. There is about a five minute scene of Germans unloading on some Ami crossing a bridge in the Heurtgen, and they must've reloaded about fifty times. Too bad the rest of the movie sucked.
  4. I've personally spread the Gospel of Combat Mission to four people, whom are now spreading it to their friends. Kind of like a religon, or kind of like VD.
  5. I bet the playtesters reading this post are laughing and snickering at us, knowing whats in store.
  6. I really like the idea of carting them around in halftracks for mobility and defense, good idea. As far as counter bombardment, if you scoot your 'park' out or around in the next move, it may scatter the impact points enough to not leave an arrow pointing back to the mortars. I dont know how well it would work, since you have to still be in C&C for the indirect fire, but maybe I can find some creative solutions to that.....
  7. I've often found mortars an effective on-board arty asset, but the smaller calibre variety lack any real oomph, instead they annoy and pester with occasional treebursts and smoke. I dont know how most people here use thier mortars, but in the defensive role, what I like to do is this: Place a HQ unit in a good observation spot, like an FO, and place mortar crews in defilade around him, so he can ident and target for them. If you have enough mortar crews, you can place three or four (or five or six..) with each HQ, making each one like a mini-FO. A concetration of light mortar fire can actually halt, or at least drasticly slow, on oncoming assault. Even the 2in. morts used in groups can give infantry a good wedgie. It just seems that the power\effectiveness of small calibre mortars increases a good deal when used in numbers. Single mortars may be good for laying smoke in a isolated corner, but only tickle infantry. You can also mix n' match, have half lay down harasing button-up fire, the other smoke. This is good to blind a group of tanks and have an AT gun open up on a lone tank, without fear of being shot up by the others. Now, Im not saying this is the best way to use mortars, but its worked OK for me. So, what do you think? Is this a good use, or is it too risky to have most of your mortars in one area? How do you use your MortarMen?
  8. Ive read almost all of these, and theres always a few more gems to be gleamed. Oh yeah, Bump.
  9. Im in a PBEM game with a chap who runs a Mac, and we're having problems with compatibility ... maybe? I dont know how I got the first setup turn to work, I just copied the text straight from my E-mail to notepad to CM. But the next turn was so big that I couldnt transfer the data by cut-n-paste, and so I asked him to zip it, or compress it somehow, and send that, which he kindly and promptly did. Now that doesnt work either, I open the attachment from current location, and it then gives me a warning saying ' Warning, this is a .bin file, are you sure you want to open? I say OK, then asks open with what? I dont know what programs read .bin files, so I try open with notepad. Pretext to the PBEM code says somthing about Apple Computers, so I load it in CM, nothing. I delete the Apple stuff, leaving bare code, nothing. Is there a compression format stable (and free) that is compatible? Thanks in advance.
  10. Yeah, wheres the screenshot goodness? Maybe show a picture of the QB selection screen too, but Im happy with whatever BTS shows, as long as they DO show somefink.
  11. Ill chip in on some coffee beans and energy bars so they can keep working on CMBB 24 hrs a day. Maybe, if they've been good this year, Ill toss in an old issue of Playboy too.
  12. Seattle, Washington, where its always green, if ya know what I mean.
  13. Allies: Stewart, for all the reasons previosly stated, and the 57mm AT gun. I have killed more Mk IVs and Panthers with that little gun than with Sherm 76's. Axis: Pumas and Hetzers, two great tastes that taste great together.
  14. Oh man, I totally missed that thread, now I feel like a dumbass.....
  15. Snowmobiles! If you dont know about this site, you should check out the rest of it, there is alot of info. Also as a question to those who may know, how do Russian MGs compare to German, Allied, and Commonwealth? I havent found info on this as detailed as Id like. ROF, maintenence, firepower, caliber, numbers produced and how the Russkies deployed them is what Id like to know. Thanks in advance. Edited to get the link to work. 16. Ill give it a run as well, send it on over!
  17. I agree 100%. The bad camo with the bright yellow and flourecent (sp?) green is hideous at best. I love the content, but the presentation could really be improved, as well as the general layout. Maybe having a simular layout as Combat Missions, its far more pleasant to navigate and find what your looking for. Kudos to Madmatt and Supa' Ted for maintaining it, but with Manx at the helm and CM:BB on the way, a rehaul in in order. It would be great if there was a whole section dedicated to CMMOS, with every file and option all in one place for easy mod-sluttage.
  18. If you live in the states, it shouldnt take more than a week, Im in the NorWest and it was three days! But, with all that Anthrax floating about, the mail has been a bit sluggish..... Patience is a virtue Danielson, it is well worth the wait.
  19. I read through some other posts on this but none seemed to have my problem. All is fine and good starting up, pick players, setup, but when I press GO the first time **POOF** error messages saying Ive lost my connection. Its happened 7 times, thats every TCP|IP game Ive tried. I would love to play online with people, but I have to slog through PBEM instead, I really feel like Im missing out here. Any suggestions?
  20. Ohh, that looks like alot of fun, I can see why it took so much work! Well, I hate to barge in uninvited, but if you ever need a PUMA pilot again, let me know!
  21. Another victim of sh!tty TCP\IP service. I dont get dings, I dont even capture anyone, because it craps out when I hit GO on the setup phase. Just*poot* gone. Says system error, connection to internet was lost, or some such drivel. PBEM sucks ass in comparison to talking trash realtime. There doesnt seem to be much interest in this by BTS ( Except Maddmathew?) but its no fun wiping the CPUs out every time, and waiting for PBEM can get aggrivating to say the least. So whats the deal? Who has it working on a regular basis, whats your system config, what ISP, ect? HELP!
