  1. I was thinkin it would be fun to do some crazy mods. I havent actually done any mods myself, and thought somthing other than historical might be fun an d kick some new life into the game. I was pondering doing things like a King Tiger hi-res but with actuall tiger stripes, or a shiny black panther, or a Lynx camoed like the namesake. For the Allies, or at least the shermans, a Harely style hi res paint job, like deep purple with flames on the front liking down the sides, or just making it look like a Zippo. For sports fans make team vehicles, Like a Mariners M8( GO M's!!!!!), with the team colors and the logo on the turret. Im not sure if I can figure out HOW to do all these things, but it would be cool to pull off. Any ideas? Any crazy mods you would like to see? Are there any out there (Besides the Austin Powers carrier) already?
  2. Thanks Slappy, I needed a good laugh. I thought maybe he was asking about the famous and fearsome French Ostritch Warriors. The French decided to stun the Germans by attacking with street mimes armed with spears, riding on the backs of trained War Ostritches, which France has plenty...... Sorry, Ill stop now. Sorry Treeburst, got carried away.
  3. Ive cruised around for a bit, looking for a good website about Soviet AFVs in WWII, but cant find a definitive site, where do you go for your info on Soviet armour? I realized how little I know about it when I saw the rear facing MG on the new CM:BB screenshots (Thanks for those BTW) and never even knew they had rear MGs. How well did those work for holding off inf. close assualts? Thanks, again, in advance.
  4. I have a Voodoo 5 card as well, I dunno what you got, but I went to the video card task bar( every card has the basic equivelent(sp?)) Turn off everything, or just run single chip if it allows. works like a charm. . Good luck and welcome aboard.
  5. Yeah, spotting a nest would be a instant magnet for arty, but I thought it would be a nice addition, and a more concrete representaion of a MG properly emplaced, but I geuss a crater will have to do for now . For JonS: a nest would afford better protection and perhaps flexibility(differant teams could jump in if neccesary?)Also, it would just give you more options for defence. Think of it as a MG bunker with better camoflauging(sp?) abilities, giving the crew better chances for suvival.
  6. This will probably inspire the wrath of all you grogomites, but what the hell...... I posted this accidentily on the wrong message board so here goes again. Why cant one place MG nests? I understand everything is supposed to be abstracted in CM, but arent there differant advantages/ disadvanteges to a sandbagged nest? When you place units, they become dug in, but are they in nests? Foxholes, or what? A nest might have slightly better LOS, and accuracy due to it being raised, and the MG being 'sighted in', as well as better protection from direct fire/ shrapnel. I will be the first to admit, Im not sure how often or how many other units were placed in them (i.e. mortars, squads, ect.)but MGs were surely common enough, and it would be nice as light enplacement option. So heres what I would like to know ( without being torn apart for merely bringing it up ) How often did the Axis use them, and in what situations? Did the Allies use them? Why were they not included in CM? Thanks.
  7. That is so cool!! I would love to one day have the time/money/skills to do that, so good luck, and let me take a ride in it when your done!! For the cannon, you could make a BADASS potato gun, just some PVC some hairspray and a mischevious peronality is all you need!
  8. Yes, it would be suceptible to arty fire, but that is just the way it goes. I suppose it would be mostly german defence as far as availability goes, and I dont think they would be available for ME, either, but any MG could go, with a regular team, or maybe a team and a sharpshooter or artyspotter. You could also use them as decoy, tempting youre opponent to waste arty and mortar fire on an empty nest. That would probably be considered gamey tho. I dont see why mortars couldnt be placed in them, or whatever you wanted really, just purchase an empty nest, and fill(or dont fill) it with whatever unit you see fit. I meant to post this on the other forum, not this one (OOOpps)maybe a true grogomite could fill us in on a nests usuall use and suvivability, as well as why they may not be included. Did allies make them often?
  9. Thank you, I really appreciate the help. I love the CM community! ( When youre not all per-snikety with eachother over miniscule details and aguing in circles to no end.) But really, thank you.
  10. Thems are the breaks. Welcome to the wild wild world of CMBO.
  11. The infamous "Search"(or "Useless" as it is often called.) has yeilded no results about this topic, so... Why can one not place a MG nest? I figure that since everything is 'abstracted' a foxhole is supposed to suffice, but arent there some distinct advantages( disadvanteges) to a sandbagged nest? In a foxhole, you are presumed to be dug in, or a little below ground level. But wouldnt it be plauseable (and historicly accurate) to place MG nests? Maybe they would be under Fortifications, costing around 25 points or so. They would give a cover bonus, and maybe add to accuracy, because the MG would be properly mounted and sighted in. Im sure this was a heated discusion with BTS, but does antone remember thier stance? Also, My heart goes out to you all, and know that this is our generations time to stand up, as our grandparents did before us, and fight this terrible evil.
  12. I agree with my fellow Dog, MkIVs have a hard time of it, at least when Im commanding them(sigh). Stuarts on the other hand are handy lil buggers. I just played a QB, and had 3 of them flank 2 MkIVs and a Panther, taking them all out, loosing one in trade. Chaffees are still my fav tho.
  13. My girlfriend always says: " Its not the length of your barrel honey, it how you use it." Sorry, couldnt resist.
  14. I should really just get a book on all the weapons of WW2, that way, my 'wargamer-lite' ass wont make a fool out of himself on forums asking questions that seem so obvious to everyone else. Any suggestions on a good guide( hopefully with nifty cut-away pictures of tanks and such)on this stuff, where do you all get your info?
  15. Whew. Im glad Im not the only one. A duck quaking works too, that gets it right. Ive downloaded so many mods, I dont remember which one gave me this wierd sound. Who has the best sound mods anyways? Simplicity is a key factor when choosing, I dont wanna convert some sound files, or rename them or anything( Im an American after all ) I like the sounds in saving private ryan alot, any based on those? The mod with the AP rattling around sounds cool, where do I get one? I also need good artillery sounds, the ones I loaded up sound all grainy and me being lazy, I didnt save the old ones) Any standout sound mods?
  16. I didnt think of backblast...duh, I geuss its alot worse than a shreck or zook then.
  17. I recently got 2 75mm RRs in a QB, and I was suprised that you couldnt go inside a building with them. Why?, they dont appear to be big, certainly heavy, but it couldnt be more than an HMG. My (limited) experiance with them is that they are pretty useless, slow, and vulnerable. In this scenario, I had hidden one in a small patch of pines, and when a scout car was within 45 meters, it opened up. It, at 45m mind you, IMMOBILIZED the scout car. I fully realize that luck has alot to do with it, but cmon, a 75mm c round at 45m shouldve drilled it. The scout car turned and gave a burst of MG fire back, the regular crew(regular crack smokin crew) ditched out and was promptly cut down. Yeah, somtimes sh!t happens, no doubt, but this seems to always happen with RRs. If your men could at least carry them into a heavy building, it would increase survivability and effectivness a bit. This is somthing that has probably been argued to death, but the search doesnt work. How effective were these things historicly? Does anyone have a good way to use em? Thanks
  18. This is a hard question to ask, mostly because its hard to describe, but here goes. I have the newest sound mod from CMHQ (So not THAT new ) and Ive noticed a pequiliar(sp?) sound during or right after a tank gets knocked out. Its like a chipmunk-hiccup-squeak-burp-like sound. Maybe its just my overly used speakers, or all those bygone highskool days of smokin', but I cannot figure out what it is. When I first heard it I thought someone was killing a small furry wooodland creature or somthing (volume a bit tooooo high.)the best guess I have it an escape hatch, but the sound of that is distinct, and differant. Maybe it is what a AP round sounds like penetrating, but that seems unlikely too. It seems to happen more often with allied vehicles, after being hit, but before escape hatch sounds. This probably sounds nucking futs, but if anyone reads this, notices the same sound, and knows what it IS please, lemme know. Thanks yall.
  19. Cool! thanks, thats much better. I had one that (i think) Molek did, green and black strips, it looked cool, but almost everything else is Hi Res, so now it matches!
  20. Ive looked everywhere and I cant find one. Im looking for somthing in the Fernando\Molek\Bergman quality range, but all I can find are half-assed lo-res. Why doesnt the supa duo (Molek\Bergman) do some nice new mods fer commonwealth, German vehicles? They are the best currently active modders out there, and it would give me somthing to D\L!! Thanks to all modders out there, I respect, appreciate and enjoy your work.
  21. I agree, I dont see why it couldnt be done, maybe have three factors. A unit could have a range of response times, based on fatigue, incoming fire, and experiance. Each one randomized by a lil' program, it really wouldnt have to be a big proccesor hit, but that depends on yer proccesor . Great idea. BUMP
  22. Cool! thanks, that was it. How could I forget DeanCo? Man I would love for BTS to call me up and say , Hey wanna work on this game?
