  1. From the debates around here it appeared the British estimated the range at 700m and the Germans estimated 800m.
  2. "To the Volga". Beware, this one takes at least half an hour to calculate each turn.
  3. IRL snow definitely has a dampening effect on artillery. One account from the east front I've read stated that mortar rounds were almost useless in heavy snow. I think Madmatt said sometime that this effect is modelled in CM.
  4. Are immobilized vehicles gone for good? I was playing an op i mad and i had a couple very important vehicles get immobilized in river crossings. They disappeared on the next battle. Are they just gone or what?
  5. I'm confused as to how to purchase auxilliaries. I'm going to be using the standard force but modified to regular experience because i'm not very tactically adept. I've calculated the number of points of auxiliary units but I get lost for the next step. How do I let the computer pick them?

  7. The T-34 was only better than German tanks for '41. By 1942 upgunned and uparmored Stugs and Pz IVs had appeared that could handle T-34s easily. Even in 1941 though the T-34 had some very serious handicaps. It had no cupola so it was basically blind except for where the gun was pointing. The Sherman was a better tank than the T-34 in most aspects, including gun and armor, except for off-road mobility. [ November 19, 2002, 01:21 PM: Message edited by: panzerwerfer42 ]
  8. Steve- Just out of curiosity can you tell us how much bandwith CMHQ uses a month?
  9. I just noticed that's production of ammo 20mm and larger. That would skew the results considerably since the Germans produced so many 20mm AA guns. I found a chart of German gun production by type at Feldgrau. Be sure to look at the number of Luftwaffe 20mm guns at the bottom. Also, the same guy is responsible for both charts. 10. Oddly I found the Citadel scenario easily winnable as the Soviets, but routinely get my butt handed to me by the AI in most scenarios.
  11. Everyone knows the stories of how fearsome Russian artillery was. Thousands of guns firing thousands of rounds on 1 km of frontage and stuff like that. But I've run into some data that seems to suggest the Russians had a lot of tubes but not much ammo for them. I found a chart of ammunition production here . It's a little paste half way down. It gives production in 1940 (in thousands) Soviet: 17,168 German: 106,352. In 1941 Soviet: 42,234, German: 104,688. In 1942 Soviet: 73,480, German: 193,631. In 1943 Soviet: 85,800, German: 217,725. In 1944 Soviet: 94,768, German: 281,060. If you read the chart it shows the Russians making considerably more mortar and rocket shells for most of the war. This ammunition production would suggest to me that the German artillery was shooting off alot more than their Russian counterparts. I know alot of it probably sat in warehouses or got blown up on trains or by partisans. But the disparity is simply too big for those factors to even it out. In CMBB, the 150mm guns for both sides have even almost the same ammo: 30 for the 152mm Soviet gun and 35 for the German 15 cm. Does anyone else think it would be reasonable to give German artillery (not mortars) more ammo to account for the apparent historical advantage? IIRC American artillery in CMBO got more ammunition because of the huge supply vs the German shortage. I think it would be reasonable to do the same on the Ost Front, since I don't believe the Russian air forces were as successful at disrupting supply as the western air forces. I know basing my argument on data from 1 website isn't terribly scholarly of me, but if you look at the guys sources they seem pretty good to me.
  12. Well CMHQ is run by Madmatt who is an employee of BFC. His site hosts a pretty big portion of the mods out there. I suspect BFC helps out with the bandwith costs, because CMHQ must use an insane amount of it.
  13. What brand of Ti4200 are you using? I've heard of some Gainward 4200s having instability issues.
  14. Look in the archives of CMBO. Theres been lots of discussions. To sum them up, there is no chance of seeing a motorcycle in CMBB.
  15. Yeah like Treeburst155 said, the HSF probably isn't seated tightly. A complete replacement isn't really necessary. The heatsink you have can be the best in the world, but with a cheapo fan won't do much better than the stock HSF. The stock fan on my 1.2 T-Bird is like 60mm wide and 5mm high. A decent aftermarket fan is a 80x25mm unit. You don't need an 80 CFM Delta fan, most any 80mm unit will do.
  16. Neither CMBO or CMBB can run in OS X, even under classic mode. I'm not a Mac owner so I don't know what the issue is with running it in 9.2.
  17. Was the gunk dust/garbage kind of stuff or grease? If it was dusty stuff I have the same problem on my T-bird 1.2. THe dust caked the heat sink so bad no air could flow thorugh it. My comp kept crashing and I finally noticed this problem. You should be fine with any XP on the market at the moment because the low speed Thoroughbreds are just barely hitting the market now. I only heard about it on Monday. The AK31 can handle the palomino XPs for sure
  18. But beware the Thoroughbred A. They run just as hot, if not hotter, and have a smaller die size so though are a real pain to cool. The 2200+ is a Tbred A and some of the lower speed ones are Tbred A cores. Be sure to get a Palomino core XP. I don't think your HSF itself is the problem, but I think it isn't mounted tightly. I suspect CM runs a CPU at 100% very easily, which is why it heats it up so bad.
  19. What kind of HSF are you using? The early T-Birds are notoriously hot running and require a pretty serious cooling device. Also, did you apply the thermal grease properly? It should be a thin layer, not gooped on. If it is, that's likely the source of your problem. If you can, get some Arctic Silver 3 thermal paste for the CPU. Just using that instead of regular paste can bring you down 5 degrees. A couple good websites with HSF reviews and cooling stuff are www.overclockers.com and www.hardocp.com.
  20. Most Panzer Divs probably didnt have any SPWs at the start of Barbarossa so its trucks for the infantry. I'm think 38t fits more in light tank companies but I could be wrong. Pz IIIs and IVs certainly fit in the medium companies. But there still werent all that many III or IV at that time.
  21. I was just playing a QB vs the AI with Panthers vs M4s at about 1700m. I noticed the M4s seemed to have their guns elevated to a ridiculous angle. I doubt this is realistic because I've never seen any other tank gun in CM, especially the longer ones, elevate to anywhere near that angle. Its somewhere around 30 degrees. They look kind of like that film of the King Tiger battalion on review where the entire battalion is lined up with guns elevated to the max. Is it a bug or what? I dont remember the 76s in CMBO ever elevating that high. I have a screenshot if someone can host it for me.
  22. The only one I really hear of is Dmitriy Loza . Oddly enough he commanded lend-lease Shermans for most of his career. I'm sure there are more out there though.
