  1. Wade .. Been there three times in the last two years. (Was astonished to find 1977 Versions of AH's Squad Leader and Third Reich boardgames in the gift shop .. shrink wrapped .. like I walked in to a time machine. Ahhh .. the smell ... that cardboard smell when you open a new war game ... smells like ... Victory Anyways, I found the museum to be very well kept and the machines in excellent condition. They had a KING TIGER inside, which absolutely blew me away. They have a catwalk set up there and you can look down in to the tank (they have it disassembled slightly so you can see down in it). If I recall, I believe they have a StugIII there too that some farmer RECENTLY found submerged in his swamp. It was actually in pretty good condition too. Outside, it's all US Military Hardware including a helicopter. It's just an outstanding place to visit that is pretty well kept but you can definitely tell that is certainly not overfunded. DD ..
  2. .. For what it's worth ... in my personal OPINION <which means absolutely nothing ... > I asked a couple weeks back about who makes the best mods of Soviet and then German vehicles\armor. After many hours of downloads (thank you CMMODS and combatmission.com) .. and after many hours of playing in the game with the mods. I hereby declare .. CANON as the Champion German Modder .. in the Soviet division ... there was less of a contest .. Mr. Noobie, hands down. Before the broadcast, earlier this evening, the following awards were achieved: In the peripheral categories.. DD is the King of Terrain. That was an easy one. RadiofreeCMBO sound mod was awarded a special commendation for research and innovation. Fatherofnone is easily the sound mod champ. The Modscar goes to EDS in the "supplemental ambience" category. Juju received The Bob Villa Lifetime Achievement Award for buildings. Stay tuned and cast your vote ... Still to be decided: The Single Greatest German Armor Mod of All-Time and The Single Greatest Soviet Mod of All-Time Submit your opinion below. Remember, this is not a competition, this is only an exhibition ... please ... no wagering. (On a serious note, many thanks to all mod-makers. The talent displayed by all is truly awesome.) DD ..
  3. .. Thanks for the help guys .. Tecumseh .. you wrote: "My favourite mod of all time is Dainius Kartanas' King Tiger in CMBB. Why oh why does this guy not make more?!? My favourite modder is Andrew Fox" Can't find "Dainius Kartanas" or "Andrew Fox" on CMMODS. Do they go by any aliases? Crap game wrote: "Who makes the best mods? Blasphemy! That is akin to asking who makes the best scotch! All scotch varieties are better than no scotch - Different flavors appeal to different folks..." I was asking for your OPINION on your favorite scotch .. err .. mods. Definitely no scoreboard here. Just subjective input. DD ..
  4. .. THumpre .. Thanks for the advice. Can't find him listed at CMMODS anywhere. Any idea where his work can be found? Thanks in advance .. DD ..
  5. .. Wondering, in your opinion, who makes the best GERMAN armor\vehicle mods would you say? And where would you find them? Been checking out CMMODS.com and the old Madmatt site but it looks like Madmatt has moved on to other things .. or something. Maybe there is some site for just German armor\vehicle mods? If not, who is the designer to look for that is THEE MAN when it comes to mods of German armor? DD ..
  6. .. In other words: WHO BE DA KING OF DA GERMAN ARMAR MODIFICASHUNS?? Y'ALL DD
  7. .. Thanks Lt. Bull .. Getting them now. Anybody want to offer up a counter to MrNoobies Russian Vehicles with some great looking German vehicle mods? DD
  8. .. Hey thanks again everybody. I'm in to it and have quite a few installed. Yeah, Nevermind, if you compare your member number of 11,341 to my member number of 693 you'll see that I have been around a very long time. I was in to CMBO quite a bit. I believe I did a few very minor, probably low quality mods for it. Nowhere near the quality of most of these mod designers. ONE LAST REQUEST FOR YOUR OPINION: The Vehicles My God, man. How many mods of those are there? JHEES. I'm baffled and overwhelmed. Could you lay on me your top three vehicle mods for CMBB? This is strictly your opinion, no formal poll or anything. Again, I greatly appreciate your time. DD ..
  9. Hey Doc Rosensquared .. Question .. I can truly see how the grids will make a HUGE difference in figuring out terrain elevations and such. At first I thought, "Well, there's no grids on a battlefield so perhaps this will detract from the realism of the game." After further thought, I realized .. if I was there I could obviously see if something was higher than something else and the grids just help display this. My question for you (or anyone else in the case that the good doctor is pre-disposed at a gynecological appointment with Catherine Zeta-Jones .. or Star Jones .. or Anna Nicole Smith .. OMYGOD could you imagine) is this: If I install the grid terrains ... will that supercede the other hi-res terrains that I install? More clearly: I like the work done by "the real dd" (could be the name) and I would like to have his terrain textures and look with a grid overlay. Possible? Again, thanks for any help .. DD
  10. <feverishly writing this down like a schoolboy in grammar class> Boy, at that CMMODS place, it takes a long time to download stuff. But IT IS FREE so I am greatly appreciative. Just kind of confusing. How about this DD fellas terrains and stuff? They look pretty big. The CMMOS thing is kind of a hit and miss proposition, isn't it? Some work, some don't. Makes it hard to tell which is good, which is pedestrian. -Well, on the bright side it's the weekend, there's so snow on the ground so what are you going to do, Dial, golf? - Again .. Much Obliged. DD
  11. .. Canuck .. Care to comment which of those "eye candy" mods are your personal favorites? And thanks for the advice from everyone. Downloading CMMOS now. Made the BMP backup, as suggested. DD
  12. .. Thanks for your time. I have spent many hours searching these forums but I am at a loss. I am requesting the opinions of some of the ace players here. Mod packs. Graphics and sound .. those are the ones that generally enhance the game experience, correct? If you were starting from scratch and you were going to install some mods, which ones would you choose? What's the concensus and where do you find such things? I went over to the Madmatt page but I am kinda of confused. I need a veteran of Barbarossa to give me a helping hand and basically say: "Get this and this .. here. Those make the game look better and sound better." I really appreciate this as I am overwhelmed by the scattering of the mods. I am just looking for a few good mods and then play the game. I wouldn't take this last resort of taking up your time if I hadn;t already invested a great deal of mine to try and sort this out. I surrendered and realized that it was time to ask the community for their opinion. Thanks again and I'll be intensely reading this thread for as long as it is viable. ..
  13. .. Before espousing on a variety of philosophical notes concerning this game, please look at my member number up there to the left. I've been around for a very long time. I keep my mouth shut and see if I can learn something .. mostly. For quite a while I was very turned off by this community, and therefore the game, because of the pandering attitude that present BTS as some form of worshipped god and infallible. I won't cite posts or people but you know guys know what I am talking about. So, after the demo came out and I found it truly atrocious and downright boring, I thought, "Ahh .. I'll just buy G.I. Combat or go check out some HPS games." I had played BO quite a bit and enjoyed it a great deal. I figured after the demo that this was a one trick pony. I was wrong. After buying several games over the last couple months, I came to realize that this community .. on these boards .. is what I was looking for. You people create a great compulsion to continue on with BTS software. The work of the good people who create things like The Stalingrad Pack and all the mods make this game far and away a superior wargame product. It's most dissapointing that BTS has become so aloof that they won't even offer bandwidth for the heavy mods. It only makes their game an exponential sum more enjoyable. The mod makers and designers are the salt of the earth here and they are the best at what they do. There is no comparison. So, even though I was not going to purchase the game, I viewed many mods and saw that Wild Bill's Raiders were going to release a series of scenarios done on Stalingrad. These mods and the Raiders pack created so much .. motivation .. to again game in a superior community that I had to relent. And after purchasing the game, the compulsion proved valid. The talent displayed is phenomenal. The mods are amazing and the scenarios precise and tense. There is no green over there. There is no there over there. It's all here .. in these pages .. in these people .. in this community. And no other wargame can touch it. DD ..
  14. As you can see by my number there to the left, I've been around a while. Was very much looking forward to CMBB. Gave up hope actually. Dowloaded the demo and played the two scenarios. Ahh .. I'm sorry guys. It just doesn't have "it". I think "it" was the new sensation of somebody doing a wargame like this. But I think that is over now. The demo was so poor, or at least I didn't enjoy it very much at all, to the exent that BTS not only lost a sale to a loyal customer (several other BTS products purchaser) but I'm starting to believe this may have been a one trick pony. I'm very happy for those that may derive enjoyment from this sequel and I wish the best of luck to them. I simply believe that gaming has surpassed this system. There's many points but the main one is that the infantry just looks like toys. The whole thing just looks like toys being played with. It was kinda neat at first. But I think I'll be spending my money on Tiller's new effort, with aid and abetting from Wild Bill, called "Eagles Strike". I'll miss checking in with The Community. I read a great deal but generally keep my mouth shut. I just listen. Perhaps I'll check in another two or three years down the road and see if they can bring things up to current standards graphically. Unti then, I think I'll take my wargames in traditional style and leave the 3D stuff to Unreal Tournament doodz. The demo just turned me off of buying the product. That's the bottom line. Best to all and good hunting, DD [ September 10, 2002, 01:08 AM: Message edited by: davedial ]
  15. Oh .. I'm sorry .. I didn't address one of your questions. Didn't mean to be rude. No .. I haven't run CMBO on this computer. I uninstalled it about six months ago and haven't messed with it. Kinda fried on it. If it would help for me to install it again and report the results, let me know. I'd be happy to help. DD
