  1. The early model uses a captured Russian 76mm AT gun rechambered to take german 75mm Pak ammo.
  2. Look at the armor penetration for the guns HE ammo. It certainly is possible, but probably not a frequent occurance in real life. Edit: The 88mm Flak has even better HE penetration than the King Tiger. They can penetrate the T-34 upper hull front at over 1000m with HE. 3. The german Teller mine carried about 13 lbs of TNT, and later Amatol.
  4. Heh. 3rd SS Panzer Division was known as "Totenkopf". In English thats "Death's Head". Early in the war at least, it was mostly composed of concentration camp guards on combat duty. One it's most famous commanders, Theodore Eicke, was a former camp commander. I'm honestly suprised he survived his imprisonment given the infamy of this division.
  5. Well I can think of at least one guy who went from assault guns to Tigers.......
  6. Not just on this forum. I see it used in mass media ocasionally.
  7. Flour works for a good aerosol explosive too. Back in the 1800s a couple of flour mills here in Minneapolis exploded pretty spectacularly from the dust igniting. [ December 03, 2002, 04:54 PM: Message edited by: panzerwerfer42 ]
  8. Yes it is. Once they are done patching CMBB their next project is to redo the game engine. Most estimates floating around are at least 2 years for that to be done. The next game planned was a north african game IIRC.
  9. There were seperate Heer and SS Tiger battalions. There were about 10 Heer battalions and 3 SS battalions by the end of the war. Several independent companies were also created. For several months during '43 (notably during Kursk) 1st, 2nd, and 3rd SS Panzer divisions had the 13th company of their panzer regiments equipped with Tigers.
  10. If anything the war in CMBB for the Germans gets easier at Kursk when the Panther is introduced.
  11. Nope. The U.S. Army had Army and Corps level battalions of 8" howitzers and guns. There was a fairly large number of howitzers around by March '45, but guns weren't as common. They still weren't anywhere near as common as 155s and 105s, but it isn't that gamey to use them, unlike 240mm.
  12. But the author had already experienced combat by this point and would have known what a gunshot wound looked like. It sounds to me like some sort of blast effect weapon, something similar to the "Daisy Cutter".
  13. In the memoirs of a soldier on this page he states the following : What sort of weapon could cause this? It sounds to me like a fuel air explosive but I didn't think they were used in WWII.
  14. Split your squads. Then load the teams into the 250/1s.
  15. I second that. I used to live at the foot of Sugar Loaf Hill (well about 100 yards away) and would have loved to see my yard in a CM battle. [ November 29, 2002, 04:27 AM: Message edited by: panzerwerfer42 ]
  16. That sounds like just plain bad luck. It sounds like you did everything right, it's just one of those 1 in a 1000 kind of things.
  17. Generally yes. A longer barrel means more time for the expanding propellant gasses to move the shell. However it is possible to reach a point where the burning gunpowder is no longer expanding in the barrel and then the shell actually slows down. The 75/L43 had a longer propellant case to provide more powder to fully utilize the longer barrel. I believe the Soviet 45mm AT gun used the same sized cartridge all war and got better AP performance because new models with longer barrels were introduced. The quality of the actual AP projectiles also improved which would add even more penetration.
  18. The L defintely means the length of the gun in calibres. It's measured differently from country to country. IIRC the Germans measured it from the base of the cartridge in the chamber to the tip of the muzzle, whereas others measured the barrel length only. The number after Pak, Kwk, Flak, Stuk etc is the year it was designed or introduced, like KwK 42 (Panther's gun) was developed in '42.
  19. Rockets are only worth your time for prep bombardments. Otherwise they have like 15 minute delays. Not sure about the mortars because I dont play the Soviets much.
  20. There are two different version of the motorized infantry company. One has (Pz) after the battalion and one has (PzG). IIRC you want (Pzg) to get the intended core force. It should have 3 platoons with 4 squads or 4 platoons with 3 squads or something like that and no HMGs.
  21. I think this is a scenario that the designer wanted you to be able to use smoke shells in. IIRC Finnish artillery never used smoke barrages so a German spotter had to be substituted in.
