  1. Steve and/or Madmatt, Small question and hope it isn't too annoying. How long (roughly) do you think it will be for the Mac OSX version? I am getting my new MBP 17" this week and as soon as I load XP on Boot Camp, all my CM games will be next so the question is: * Immediate gratification and by the Windoze version or * wait for the goodness of a Mac native version? I am leaning toward instant gratification since I have to boot into XP to play my other CM, but would wait a short period for a OS X version.....any clue?
  2. This is truly awesome news...what a great Xmas present from Battlefront. And if it is 1.05 improved...wow...I am waiting to buy a new Macbook...maybe I will scrape up enough to get the PRO just to play CMSF.... Of course, I will still have to get XP to play CMx1....can't let it go yet!! Please keep us posted.. P.S. small question, does the eLicencse allow you to play the game without the CD once it is registered? That would be great for battery life.... Thanks...glad to see everyone back...
  3. Hi, is anyone playing CMSF on the new MBP with the NVIDIA 8600 video card? If so have you had any of the problems associated with the NVIDIA cards? I have a glimmer of hope of getting a MBP and I was wondering if anyone recommended the newer ones with the NVIDIA vice the ATI video cards? And if it is working well, what version of Bootcamp are you using and have you installed all the recommended patches (i.e. dual core, etc) Thanks
  4. I have missed any updates on whether the Scenario Depot or somewhere else will host CMSF scenarios? Any word?
  5. Does anyone know if the CMMODS site has zip files of the old CMBB scenarios and files from the original Scenario Depot? I remember downloading zip files of the CMBO and CMAK scenarios along with a great XLS file that listed each scenario and campaign and was looking for CMBB? Thanks
  6. Howdy, I have also played it on a Macbook with Bootcamp and XP Home...the infantry look like stick figures, but the vehicles are okay and the game plays without crashing (I played the first training scenario in RT without crashing) Not nearly as nice as my IMAC, but playable in a pinch...don't know how it would handle large scenarios. P.S. Having 1Gb of RAM does help....
  7. This may be a dumb question, but since this is the first game you have published through someone else, how will patches and updates work? Assuming you get to a CMSF 1.2 or 1.3 (and I have no doubt you will) , will the patches be the same for the BFC and Paradox Versions? I know there are different patches for overseas versions but what about this? Just wondering...still kicking the tires and waiting for the 1.2 patch I think..I'm pretty sure all will be well by then...although since it works on my machine I may only wait until I get a bonus from work so I can buy it  All the best, as far as all the complaints just remember illegitimus non carborundum
  8. Guys, See this post http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=52;t=001830 I have a first gen Imac and after installing the Dual Core patch and the latest bootcamp drivers from the ATI website, it works fine. I am running Bootcamp 1.2 and OS X 10.4.9 This is on XP HomeSP2 of course, no clue on Vista. p.s. as noted in my post on that thread I kinda got it to work on my MacBook as well...crappy graphics (not awful but not pretty) but it does run...I am going to play a full demo scenario in RT to see if the MB can handle it without melting..I do have 1 GB Ram and I suspect that's the only reason it works at all...
  9. I have to say I am also amazed at the level of excitement (or complaining) within the first 24 hours. Can anyone believe this would happen to you average computer game/sim/whatever? I find it rather amusing. I had problems with the demo just like everyone else, complicated by the fact that I play CMSF on an Imac with Bootcamp. Yet through the gracious help of Steve and others, I am playing, even on a MacBook (sorta) and I would give the demo (and I assume the game) a 2. No, not quite up to the CMx1 standard for stability, yet patches are already on the way, as are (I hope) scenarios So I agree with other posters, calm down and see what happens in the coming days and weeks... I look forward to a lot of good time with this game/sim/whatever you want to call it.
  10. Good Day to the Battlefront Gang; Well for what it's worth, here's my impression as a BootCamp player running XP Home: 1. The graphics are pretty good; I turned off shadows but used default settings otherwise and things were good 2. Gameplay and camera work takes some getting used to, but I don't think it's that bad; will just take some getting used to switching from CMx1 to CMx2 games and vice versa (won't quit playing CMAK) 3. Finished the first demo training in real time...I think Real-time will be the most important new feature... I like it SOOO much more than waiting for the WEGO turn..which I usually FastForward past anyway..I know realtime will be a butt kicker in harder scenarios, but it is nice to have the option. 4. ANNNDD...just because I could I fired up the demo on my MACBOOK and it doesn't look bad  I mean it's kinda like playing CMBO on my OLD Powerbook 3400 with a G3 upgrade..the graphics were, well they sucked, but the program worked..on my Macbook the vehicles looked pretty good, but the soldiers looked like stick figures...BUT it does work and ran in real time...so since I can't afford a new MBP, this is very important to me when I need a CMSF fix on a business trip. SO here are my specs in case anyone's interested. 1. IMAC 1.83Ghz Core Duo, 1 GB ram, ATIx1600 with 128 MB ram, BOOTCAMP 1.2 and XP home 2. MacBook 1.83 Ghz Core Duo, 1 GB RAM, GMA 950, BOOTCAMP 1.2 and XP Home Overall, I have no doubt I am gonna get my butt kicked many times and will struggle with new controls and interfaces, but it will be well worth it if the other demo scenario is a good as the first.. The personal responses to problems is light-years ahead of ANYTHING else I have ever encountered for technical support. Shows you guys care about your product and customers.
  11. THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS COMPANY...I downloaded this patch and my problems appear to be solved I also went to the ATI website: http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/mac/bootcamp-xp.html to download the latest drivers and I think that helped too...now I have made it through several turns and played some in real-time with no freezes and minimal graphics issues (I am still not hard core enough to get how good/bad/old my ATI X1600, but I am not an eye candy nut, either. ) WOW, what a difference from CMx1..I am glad the PDF manual came with the demo, CLEARLY you must RTFM, but it does look cool and now that I am over my anxiety attack I am going to kick the tires about as I decide when (no longer whether) I buy it... Thanks Steve, my faith is restored (not that it was ever lost...just a little shaky, BootCamp still makes me a little nervous) Keep up the good work; I can't wait to play the scenarios the community comes up with.
  12. MikeyD, Help...I have an older IMAC (1.8Ghz Dual Core) with the ATI X1600 and 128M...I downloaded and got the game to start fine and even got through a turn, but then it locked up...and there were some funky flashing artifacts on the screen too..anyway, could you detail the patches and hints you used? Should I update to Bootcamp 1.3 and install new drivers? Should I download the fix for dual core processors. I really want to buy this game but am leary of BootCamp issues. BTW TOW runs find on my machine, and the computer specs were similar...SOOO, I am wondering if I just need to change some ATI settings in the settings control panel? Any help is greatly appreciated. P.S. I searched the forum and read the thread..how difficult was it to install the ATI Catalyst or whatever? I have tried updating things before with no luck...which is why I wonder if I should just upgrade to BootCamp 1.3?
  13. Well, I for one agree with those that were reluctant to try out CMBO..it took me two or three looks at the Demo before I figured I was smart enough to play this game and I bought it and once I got it, I was hooked. Easy to learn, never gonna master the art of destroying those damn Tiger tanks or clearing that MG42 in the upper floor! I enjoyed these games so much I bought them twice! (Darn that Quicktime VR support in OS X (not) ) and was happy to keep the BFC gang in beer. Two major complaints I've noted and my comments; * Most of the combat I have read about in Iraq and Afghanistan (Thunder Run, Cobra II, Takedown, Marines in the Garden of Eden, Not a Good Day to Die ) is not the 3-4,000 yd tank duels of Gulf War I, but down and dirty close quarters infantry fighting between small units, so from what I have seen in screen shots and videos, CMSF captures that well and the map sizes seem plenty big enough to keep us happy. I think BFC is right on that you can't get everything perfect (helicopters, asymmetrical warfare) to please everyone and it sounds like they have achieved a good compromise that we can afford. * As far as the bugs...as I recall CMBO required updating to 1.12 while CMAK only went to 1.3, so what if you need an immediate patch..I can't think of a single game I own that hasn't been patched. What I take away from this is that buying from BFC is the only way to go since you will always get the most up to date version and better support. I have had ALL of my tech support issues solved either by the usual patches or helpful hints in the forum. Clearly the reviewers didn't check the forums or post their problems As soon as I test drive the demo (because Boot Camp always requires it) I plan on ordering by snail mail, just to have the joy of anticipation (or maybe I will down load it because by then the refresh monkeys will have finished) Bravo Zulu to all the BFC guys, I think CMSF will win a bucket of awards, keep the CM community happily creating maps and scenarios and allow all of us who have patiently (most of the time) waited for 4 looooong years to get a modern small unit combat sim to while away the hours. And if you could just make an OS X version, life would be complete
  14. Apologies in advance if these are answered somewhere else... Don't remember where I saw it, but someone asked if the game has a tutorial scenario? Also I don't know if I got this right, but I thought I understood that you can modify the units on existing maps just like earlier versions of CM...that is how you can make "Quick Battles" for CMSF? Does that include the pre-made scenarios in the box ? Sorry if these are redundant I am trying to keep up with the relevant posts. Really appreciate the work on this thread..can't wait to see the variety of scenarios the community comes up with, especially if I can futz with them and add my own units
  15. Thanks to everyone...hopefully the demo will tell. Also thinking about the PC now Mac later dilemma....hmmm...will know after I play the demo...since I ended up buying both versions of CMBB and CMAK to go with the Intel Macs (also the primary reason I bought XP in the first place) it wouldn't be unusual to buy both for CMSF if the native OS X version runs well...also to keep the BFC boys in beer as they develop add on modules Oh and can someone answer my stupid question about the download version not needing the CD?
  16. Pzman, So if the TOW demo runs on my machine (which it did after I flipped the display then I should be okay?
  17. This may seem like a silly question, but I assume the download runs without the CD? That would be great for laptop use since the CD is just something else that sucks battery power. Also Madmatt, can you tell me what type of Mac you played CMSF under bootcamp on? I have the early Intel IMac with the 1.83 GHz Core Duo and the x1600 video with 128 Mb Vram...is that what you play tested with? Thanks, can't wait for the demo
  18. Normal Dude, Thanks for the link, however, I don't have a user id and password since I am no longer active duty...and I was navy anyway Any place those might be available for download?
  19. Apologies if these have already been asked, but what types of American infantry will be represented? Are there just Stryker and/or Bradley mounted mech? Will there be light infantry or airborne or even Rangers. I know the armament will be similar for all types but morale/experience/ etc would likely be different..yes? Also since I understand that random maps can not be generated for quick battles (my favorite CM play), can you import maps from already made scenarios to modify and/or change units in the scenario generator like you could with CMBB or CMAK? Finally, has anyone found additional good references for Stryker BCT doctine/tactics/SOPs? Would be interesting to see how the Army plans to use them... Looking forward to the demo.
  20. Okay, Now that I have calmed down...I remember that one of youse guys has played CMSF under bootcamp on XP and it ran okay...could you confirm or deny that? I may actually be tempted...tempted I say to buy the PC version and upgrade to OSX later......
  21. OHHH MMMYYYY GOOOODDDDD Please, please, please, please telll me that an OSX version will be coming.... This almost looks better than sex
  22. jeffsmith, Thanks for the post, that answers my questions...mostly..I assume that buying direct from BFC will be the best for Moon and the guys...good news about playing on Bootcamp...I hope the BFC guys at least throw us a bone after July 27 about when the OS X will come out so I know if I need to play the demo for a few months or just take the plunge and buy the PC version to keep myself satisfied...
  23. Great news...ditto to the earlier questions.. 1. Should we buy direct from Battlefront to avoid the middle man? 2. How has it playtested on an Intel Imac with Bootcamp and Windows XP? 3. Please give us a bone about plans for a OS X version...not that I wouldn't feed my addiction by buying the PC if I have to wait another year for a native OS X version...more profit for BFC
  24. All, Just saw this at the Center for Military History...the story of the first Stryker Brigade Combat Team, its development and deployment to Iraq...free PDF download http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/brochures/Stryker/Stryker.pdf
  25. Wellll, I guess what I should have said is the GMA doesn't suck that much...anyway...can I safely assume that my IMAC Core Duo with the X1600 and 128 Mb VRAM will play CMSF okay? I guess if I can only play it on my desktop, I will still gladly buy it...just have to cut down on my travel so I can be home to play!
