1. KR, if the 512x512 version is working I don't see why the 256x256 version wouldn't work, they are both save the same way (Other than the size) from the same Photoshop file. Please try the lighter Lo-res version found in another topic I just posted, and let me know if they work. Gyrene
 2. There seemed to be a lot of interest in lightening up my track mod a bit, so I thought I'd spare you the trouble and do it myself. As before, please let me know if there are any problems. Get the Low Res here and Get the High Res version here. Choo choo Gyrene
 3.
quote:
How big is the flame any way? I still find it exagerated that a whole squad flees, a flamethrower is no match for an armed soldier that's out of range of it's blast.

Out of range of it's blast...If they triggered an ambush they are well within it's range. Remember that the radiated heat at the end of the thing adds another 50% or so to the range of the flames you can see. As for the range... From this very web site Gyrene
 4. Ben, do you have the latest version of CM (1.12)? There were some new network game items in the updater. Also, make sure that NetSprocketLib is in your active extensions folder, as I think CM makes use of that. Gyrene [ 11-12-2001: Message edited by: Gyrene ]

 5.
quote:
How is it that 2 men can have such a profound effect on 12 men (U.S. rifle squad)?

and
quote:
I just can't see why flamethrowers have such a demoralizing effect on platoons, they can't possibly supress a whole squad so effectively, much less, route them!

Have you ever seen a flame thrower being used? Obviously not. The fear of being burned to death is as primal and ingrained in the human psyche as being eaten alive or drowing. Being ambushed by a flame thrower team is every bit as demoralizing in CM as it should be. Gyrene
 6. Yes, bazookas (And PIATs) work very well. The problem is getting them close enough to hit the enemy tanks. The extra range afforded to shrek users is golden. Gyrene
 7.
quote:
What was the origin of the salute? Does it signify a 'tipping of the hat'?

Supposdely it goes back to the Middle Ages where knights would flip up their helmet visors to identify themselves and as a gesture of respect. Gyrene
 8. Close, but no cigar. That snapping sound is a Bitch-Slap, much like a Pimp would perform. Glad to be of service. Gyrene
 9.
quote:
And definitely not without a hat on! Don't know when that custom crept into the US military - I don't think the Marines salute without a cover though - which would bring us back to....Gyrene???

Marines, sailors & coasties do not salute without a cover, and only sallute indoors when "Under Arms". A Marine Under Arms will be wearing a duty belt, which is basically a 786 gear belt with an USMC buckle or a Sam Browne belt, which is worn exclusively by Senior Drill Instructors. A Sailor or Marine cannot wear a cover indoors unless he's under arms, and this tradition is strictly adhered to. There's quite a number of rules on saluting in the USMC, and you ave them drilled into your head so much that I cringe when I see little saluting gaffes on movies, like cutting the salute before the senior officer does or at the same time or slauting without a greeting. Michael Emrys:Yes, we're part of the Dept of the Navy and you should see the convolutions one must go thru when boarding a ship.
quote:
By Ogadai: One thing that always surprises me about American saluting is the sloppy way it appears to be all too often executed. From my admittedly extremely limited military experience, we were taught the correct way to salute and the timing of it and heaven help anybody if they did it wrong. Yet from everything I've seen seems to indicate that the US services had a much more relaxed view of how a salute should be performed.

lol, not in the Marine Corps, ask any marine who got caught not saluting a Blue Sticker (Officer's car) or an officer properly. A Marine in Alpha's standing at attention saluting everything that moves is a common sight in training camps. One way to make sure you remember. Ben Stein from Comdey Central is a civilian who does a very good Marine salute. His sage security include a large number of former Marines. Gyrene
 10. I celebrated the Corps' birthday by having the flu and coughing all day! Sounds like you had more fun than I did. Gyrene
 11. Hmm, I didn't even know there were snow train tracks. I've just seen them for the first time. I'll see what I can do. Gyrene
 12.
quote:
Hey nice mod Gyrene, now I just need to get scenarios that make use of train tracks.

"The Bridges at Le Luc" by Rune Gyrene

 17. Michael, thanks for the info. It's interesting to note how somebody like Goering would push for such a token gesture. Paints a good picture of the paranoia amongst the High Command of Germany late in the war. Gyrene
 18. I was watching a special on Goering in the History Channel (Oh, oh) and in a excerpt from one of his letters later in the war it stated that he thought the Wehrmatch should not be exempted from the "Heil" type of salute (Heil as I called it, the outsretched, right arm to front and up salute) From my Hollywood based education I assumed that this was a widespread form of saluting, but that the standard hand-to-visor salute was also used. Was the "Heil Hitler" type of salute something that was reserved for members of the Nazi party and High Command types? Hope any of my question makes sense. Gyrene
 19. Glad the file works and that you liked it! Pud, I'd agree with you on the overall darkness of the Mod, but from the previous feedback here and from pictures that seems to be the way of European ballast - dark and reddish. Gyrene
 20. 226 and counting! Happy Birthday Chesty, wherever you are... Semper Fi LCpl Costa (89-93)
 21. Can you open from inside a program? They were saved as .bmp from Photoshop. Gyrene
 22. Great, now go find out if the zip'd files work. With my luck, they won't. Gyrene
 23. Elmer Fudd's tank is another place where you'd find stowage instead of storage. Gyrene
 24. I decided to put the pedal down and get this thing done. (Finally) I made the mod based on the feedback I got on this forum, and the call was for dark ballast, as opposed to the very lite colored gravel used here in the US, so here it is: These are actually pictures of the Low-res version (256x256), which is also available, for those like me that have problems with large mods. Important - PC users sometimes have trouble opening files zipped by my archiving program If these don't work I'd appreciate a volunteer with a PC to d/l the individual files and zip them for me. Get the High Res version here And the Low Resversion here. Gyrene [ 11-10-2001: Message edited by: Gyrene ]

 25. Mark, have you tried to do the standard general troubleshooting steps - zapping the PRAM, rebuilding the desktop & running an app like TechTool? You probably have, and your problem is probably not related to something those steps would fix it wouldn't hurt. Just to verify:You have the complete extension set for the ATI card + all the OpenGL/Quickdraw extensions? Do you have any other RAVE based games to try out? Older games like Tomb Raider or Unreal that use RAVE. Gyrene
