  2. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Chupacabra: ... or the cook that just got it.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> That's where national characteristics kick in : in the latter case, the french are at lowest moral for the rest of the Operation.
  3. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Cafard: Too bad i have to vote for my country in this... i'd qualify french generals in charge for the "brilliant" campaign of '40... <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> The one who is usually singled out is the general Gamelin, I think. Now, doesn't this thread belong to the general forum ?
  4. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Hawk: Bodø, Nordland. 10 points to anyone who finds out which country <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Give me my ten points, I took the ferry to the Lofoten from here once.
  5. The title says it all. What happens when artillery falls in a minefield in reality, and in CM ? [ 06-22-2001: Message edited by: ferdinand ]

  7. David, wouldn't the same effect be achieved simply by reducing the rate of fire ?
  8. I remember seeing a preview of a game called "Republic: the Revolution" that was supposed to handle smoothly as many polygons as you wanted. Acutally a quick search on Google brings a page with the same claim : unlimited number of polys
  9. I'm a bit surprised by the picture, though. Why did you put a Vichy poster over allied troops parading down the Champs Elysees ?
  10. When I read the title of the thread, I actually expected to find some sort of formula in it, or at least an outline of the methodology. Does anyone here have a reference to these quantitative works ? Is Dupuy an historian using quant. analysis, or a quant. who turned to history ?
  11. Toulon (about 120 kms from Cannes) has a museum about the liberation of Provence in 44. It is also a military port, with historical maritime museums. However, I've never been there, so I don't know what they're worth.
  12. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Mace: If you're so smart, how come when I step on them they break! huh! HUH!!!! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Could it be that you're more dense than a bit of plastic ?
  13. Well, it makes sense to me : low-res vehicles have lower pixel density, thus the chance of hitting a pixel is greatly reduced. On the other-hand, the higher density of finely modded vehicles means that projectiles are much less likely to pass between two pixels without doing damage.
  14. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by CombinedArms: It's not the hit effects that reflect fuzzy logic, but the response to the hit effects. [ 06-07-2001: Message edited by: CombinedArms ]<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Now I'm lost. I thought fuzzy logic was 'just' a generalization of 'vanilla' logic with Boolean operators, i.e. the algorithm is still completely deterministic : if you feed it the same situation, it should produce the same decision. Unless what you're meaning is that small differences in the input ("almost the same" situation) can result in big differences in the output.
  15. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Robert Olesen: The "bell shaped curve" is a normal density function. The mathematical formula for this one may be a bit hard to get hold of in some cases, though it is available in e.g. spreadsheets.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> You don't need the density function to generate a random variate, so it's easy to implement in any language that can generate an uniform variate.
  16. I tried to do a search but I can't get it to work. Does anyone know which factors affect the display of confirmed kills ? I assume it depends on distance, cover, experience and some random factor, maybe. Can you confirm a kill by walking your troops to the spot of the carnage ? Also, do observers ever get some kills confirmed ? Of course, I'm mostly interested in the opposite: can you deny your opponent the knowledge of the losses he inflicted ?
  17. I like the chair in the street in the first picture, it's a nice touch. Wat's the model of the chair, btw, Art Nouveau ? Bauhaus Weimar ? Come on grogs, enlighten us
  18. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Terence: Some guys move the computer into the TV room so you can hang out with her when she watches TV. When I wait for the turns to compiles, you can have a conversation. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> isn't modern life crazy ?
  19. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by MrSpkr: Who in their right mind would want to speak French? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I heard some Canadians do, but with an accent.
  20. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Mark IV: If you're gonna report a pirate, do it and shut up. Don't show up here for your gold star. If you're gonna shoplift, do it and shut up. Don't try to justify it. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> True, and actually i'm doing neither. I'll try to think before posting next time.
  21. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Pascal DI FOLCO: change your logon to Goebbels instead <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Shouldn't that be Himmler instead ? And how many other french people lurk in this thread when they should be working ?
  22. Re : My Infantry Squad Won't Fire It's Faust On An Approaching Wasp Dear Colonel Deadmarsh, Don't give up, recall all the wonderful moments you spent with your squads. Sure these infantry squads can get frustrating at times, but did your try to see things from their point of view ? Try to take some time to listen to their real needs and feelings, this will lead to a deeper understanding of each other. The main thing is to clarify issues that are causing pain, maybe you had some unrealistic expectations about these squads ? PS : don't mind me, i just felt a bit silly today
  23. I agree with everything you (PawBroon) said but ... <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by PawBroon: There is nothing like a Robin Hood mentality where protecting BTS is good while ripping Microsoft is only natural. [ 05-11-2001: Message edited by: PawBroon ]<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Microsoft's consumer dedication is not exactly the same at BTS's (have you read the Microsoft manifesto ?), besides they have enough lawyers to take care of themselves.
  24. Trying to defend with a full infantry force in flat farmland against a full armour (German) AI is quite entertaining too. Of course you let the computer pick both forces. With a bit of luck (at 500 points), you'll only have mines as AT weapons, and then each turn becomes a Hitchcockian scene, with you wondering whether the computer will run his front-leading tanks over your mines, swearing when he avoids them. Fun, in a masochistic way.
  25. I thought the main board was only for cold-blodeed, poker-faced, tight-lipped true gognards who could show Clint Eastwood a thing or two about counter pushing... Or are you guys now allowed to start about any old thread just by putting the Peng brand into the title ? Speaking of which I fully share MrPeng's opinion about smileys, only they were called emoticons last time I checked.
