  1. Schrul - XP Home (and Pro) has the same [386enh] directory as Win98, Me, blah, blah. I used to have a link to the edits, but no longer have those. Just throwing that out there in the event you thought it would be worth his while to hunt that stuff up.
  2. Moon, While I got ya on the horn here, just finished Bucholtz Station. Believe it or not, first time I played that particular .cmb. Great job my man!
  3. Yes, I almost included a comment concerning this as well, as I learned while trying to develop concealment tables, there is a good deal of randomness going on here. It would seem, with concealment anyway, that there is a range of probabilities that are more likely, but not certain, to occur under situations "S Distance", "T Skill", "U Terrain", "V Rate of travel", "W Stealth Bonus", "X Distance from edge of terrain", and other variables that I cannot presently remember/am unaware of. It is almost as if rather than a "table", in the traditional sense, some sort of graphic parabolic representation with gradations of color would be more accurate. Like I said, I'm not anticipating such graphs to ever be provided.
  4. Well, personally, I believe the prose itself is well-written, I would like to see more tables to include basic stuff like concealment / cover / firepower and the effect upon each by leaders with various bonuses. There are FP tables, in game, for each individual unit, and there are (and I possess) FP tables prepared by Chris Hare (thanks Chris). However, even two years later, there are no concealment tables available (I *did* start testing for such a table but the undertaking was so huge, I put it down). This is the type of thing that a wargamer is pretty much accustomed to having However, I realize that this is just the type of info BTS purposely does not provide so as to keep CM from becoming a "play by the numbers" game as Steve says. BTS' approach does have merit as it requires the player to develop feel for the game.
  5. Ahh..... the "ding-freeze". I'm interested in how to fix this as well.
  6. And welcome to CMBO. Honestly, I don't believe you could ever stop learning with this game. Kiss your other interests good-bye.
  7. I think essentially we had, about at that same time, gotten into TH CAL as it had just started up. I played a few games of that and found that I really, really disliked ladder play. Nothing against Yobobo, Abbott, all the rest, and I did enjoy the goal of weapon limitations, but ladder matches just put a heavy competitive pall over play and I found/find it unpleasant. I think back in those days, it seemed no one wanted to play unless it was for ladder matches so the motivation for me to suggest a game was absent and you never mentioned it. As I recall, that evening immediately following that game, you posted for *another* game saying something similar to "It's me again, the beating-head-against-the-wall wargamer in search of another game against a player who favors the gamiest of oob's: Pueppchen, flak trucks, you name it!" LOL!! I literally doubled over in laughter when I read that one.
  8. Yes, use one of these against most folks, and they won't play you again. BTW - Redwolf, was it you and I that had that test game full of flak trucks, puppchen and volkstrum smg? That was pretty damned funny.
  9. TRL - if you will send an email to me as to which .cmb / .cmc you are referring to, it's pretty likely that I have a copy of it. Keith! What up? Hope all is going well. After a year of probably 40+ hours of CMBO / week, I burned out for about a six month period, but all is well again! Hope all is going well on your end. Best wishes all, Les "Agua" Smith
  10. Good, and in any event, if there is an upper limit to the number of .cmb / .cmc 's you can install, it's some number greater than 976.
  11. Thanks Shrullenhaft. If you get the chance to throw up a QB sometime and feel like checking it out, please do.
  12. I really find it hard to believe that this has been happening for the past year and a half and I am just now noticing it, so I am wondering if someting in CMBO has become corrupted. In quick battles, when the date is set for December 1944, My US regular infantry platoons will show the icon for '45 Rifle Squad. The uniform/bmp which is displayed is also a '45 Rifle Squad. Any date in a quick battle prior to December '45 (utilizing US regular infantry), will display the proper unit icon and the proper uniform. Anyone know how to fix this, short of a fresh installation?
  13. Yes, just a strongly urged echo of the previous comments: once you arrive at a mod combination that you really think is about perfect, burn a CD copy of the entire .BMP folder.
  14. Probably means he gave a copy of CM to someone. I've purchased five copies over the last year and a half and have given all away to friends and family, except for my own personal copy. If I knew more folks personally whom I thought would be interested, I'd buy additional copies.
  15. Oh yes, Please man, and thank you! agua@bellsouth.net Shame about Manx's site.
  16. I had thought that MANX's combat mission site used to have a list of the .bmp's which were included within each unit portrayed within the game, but I can't seem to find his site anymore. Anyone know what the hell I'm talking about and if so, where I might find that (or a similar) list? Thanks in advance.
  17. OOOOOOPpppppssssss......LOL!!! Ah well, I'm sure you'll be happy to know that I will keep you updated on any other brilliantly insightful leads that I develop to assist you guys. Agua out
  18. Hmmmm..... Well, maybe y'all could contact some of the folks who created the models (is there a name for such folks?) and ask if you could use the photos. You never know. I would imagine a lot of people would just be very proud that their work was included in a super quality game such as CM. If you're interested in pursuing that, I'm an attorney and would be happy to shoot some draft license agreements over to ya.
  19. Don't know if this will be of any assistance at all, but here's a link to a modelling site with photos of quite a few of the soviet afv's you were looking for. http://www.missing-lynx.com/gallery.htm Some of the galleries provide top down, side and frontal views; others don't.
  20. First, welcome! (where's that CMBorg?) Second, you may want to read a couple the intro article over at Madmatt's CMHQ concerning installation of the mods. There is some particular order that you need to install some of the terrain mods if you are going to do a complete overhaul (its really something simple though, like grass first, then walls, then buildings, or something like that). But yes, it is very simple. Again, welcome aboard - - this IS the ultimate computer wargame.
  21. These things can be killed with .50 mg fire, close in, and by mortar/arty HE. That's about it. Zooks, AP rounds will not kill them. Deaths caused by tanks are generally from mg fire.
  22. Yes, I'd recommend starting with small-medium sized scenarios. After VoT and CE on the demo, a really neat one that helped me get a grasp of combined arms tactics was the five scenario set "No rest for the weary".
  23. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by MoatnGator: Anyone ever suffer real time artty barrage while in a concrete bunker? Not one underground all the way. But one with exposure. Thank God I have not, but I have been in those bunkers with the grenade holes and everything and it would not be pretty under heavy artillery.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> In a thread concerning this very subject there was somebody on here who had experienced 155 in a bunker. IIRC, they stated it was terrifying, but the bunker remained intact, and in fact, had been used regularly for the purpose of demonstrating the strength of an artillery barrage. Think of it this way as well, If arty is raining down, wouldn't ya be better off in the bunker than outside?
