  1. Congrats Russell. Couldn't have happened to a nicer dude.
  2. Are you sure about that? There are some mighty low priced pre-made rigs out there nowadays. Look on e-bay. Hell, the other day Pz was trying to sell his 1.6Ghz AMD Thunderbird with an nVidia Ti500 card for $600 on this board. I would be surprised at all if you could find a P3 1Ghz with a 64mb Nvidia Geforce2 card for under $300 on e-bay.
  3. Hmmmmm.... additional system memory never hurts, but even if you increase to 320(?)mb of ram, there still may be a bottleneck in your video card or your processor. There are some sites out there that tell you how to determine what the limiting device is, but I don't know what the addy's are. I'm assuming the ram is plain old pc100 or pc133, but 320mb of ram really should be enough memory, imho. On the face of it, a 32mb card for CMBO (though I've never had an ATI) ought to be good enough as well. If you haven't already done so, you ought to go download/install the latest drivers for you processor, motherboard, and video card. There are also some windows memory tweaks you can do, if you haven't already, that can provide some pretty impressive performance gains.
  4. You guys still doing any scenario design together or interested in cranking it back up if not? If so, wouldn't mind playtesting again.
  5. You're absolutely certain about this purchase, now? Don't rush into anything.
  6. Here is another one performed by the Bolshoi Theatre Chorus. Though the sound quality is not as good, the higher ranges, as sung by the women, provide a more lifting feel than the version performed by the Red Army Chorus (link in immeidatley preceding post), and due to the inclusion of the female voices, convey the impression of a nation joined: Bolshoi Theatre Chorus (RealPlayer) And in downloadable .wav format [edited to include .wav link] [ April 28, 2002, 01:00 PM: Message edited by: Agua ]
  7. Based upon your presentation of their utilization, it sounds like Finn Engineers / Pioneers should be included, but modeled only as "support" FT and Demo teams, with any effective benefit which inures by their special training over regular Finn FT/Demo (if there is such a thing) included.
  8. Those REALLY look good. Love the partial destruction on the building and the fullness of the explosions.
  9. Stoffel and I did one that impressed me as remarkably balanced and even with regard to both forces, and terrain. I believe it is called, simply, "Meeting".
  10. I did some tests about a year ago using "sneak" and "crawl" trying to get an idea concerning the concealment effect of the two orders and in various terrains /w leaders + ?bonuses. It was too much to come up with numbers for it. In the "tips and tricks" forum there's a post in there somewhere with a summary of the brief tests. From memory though, "crawl" has no concealment value. "Sneak" has no concealment value when the unit is in open terrain within LOS, regardless of HQ's ? bonus. With regard to the effect of the various movement commands through the differing terrains, enemy visual perception of the units' presence followed as expected: "sneak" allowed the units to come closer to the enemy before being spotted than "move", and "move" closer than "run". The various terrains' effect upon concealment varied by type of terrain and provided concealment relative to each other as you'd expect - in a continuum of least to greatest - open/rough/scattered trees/woods, blah, blah ... (don't remember the order). If anyone is interested in looking it up, its somewhere over in the tips & tricks and maybe under a thread that had the word "crawl" in the name.
  11. Okay, after re-reading the work-around post, my memory has been refreshed a bit. We deterimined that the part of the workaround which was crucial was the "host doesn't hit go until after the client says ok". The ambient sound off and the save added nothing.
  12. Ya, I'd wondered how you were going to deal with that. Anyway, send it over. I'll enjoy tooling around with the thing anyway.
  13. I've got the GF4 Ti4600 w/ 128MB DDR: as far as graphic quality, aside from the ability to increase the anti-aliasing, I've really seen no games that look any better than with the GF2 64MB DDR Ultra. I suppose as the capabilities of the GF4 are coded into more games, the difference will be apparent. But in any event, the 128MB does make a huge difference with regard to the framerate, even if the graphic quality is essentially the same.
  14. Hey Eric. I absolutely love all the scenarios over on the Belgium CM page, but had looked forward to one in particular that you had been working on at one time which no longer appears to be even mentioned on the site: Stavelot. Have you just dropped this project or what? Hope not.
  15. Just a comment here. It appears the general assumption that a lot of folks have here is that this tcp/ip crash, which I call the "ding freeze", is caused by the capturing of prisoners. I have personal experience that the crash is not limited to capture as it has occurred several times when there have been no prisoners. Also, capture does not, in every instance, cause the crash. I had, back during last summer/spring, been playing regularly with John Caravella, a/k/a MAXX, and he had worked out a precautionary protocol that seemed to work pretty well, but it wasn't absolute. I recall that we played several 3000+ point ME's before we experienced the ding-freeze. Here's a link to the work-around: TCP/IP workaround. Again, it wasn't perfect, but I'm pretty confident it greatly reduced the frequency of the crashes. Best wishes all [ April 23, 2002, 11:35 AM: Message edited by: Agua ]
  16. Yes. I posted this identical query two days ago and some kind fellow was nice enough to post a link to a wonderful, but unfortunately, now defunct site formerly known as "Combat Missions". Look in the first two pages of the Combat Mission forum for a thread titled "MANX - BMP LIST?". You could actually just do a search for the last five days, restricted to the Combat Mission forum, for the word "MANX" in the "title only" . . "match any of these words" and that should bring up the thread. I was surprised that even though Manx has discontinued the site, the old bmp list is still up somewhere in the ether of the internet.
  17. There's already a thread on page 1 in the General forum (where this belongs) on this. "Do a sea... " oops.., I meant "Hi Mom!!"
  18. I'd actually change out the original interface for that. Nice.
  19. OH! THANK YOU! Whooda thunk it?
  20. MANX, sorry to see your site gone man. Do you still have that ID list of BMP's and if so could you somehow send me a copy? agua@bellsouth.net
  21. Ahh.... the swarm of M8 HMC roaches. Are those things annoying or what?
