  1. Yup. If I'm using them on offense, they get a fast ride in an HT all the way to the rear of the pillbox.
  2. LOL! Usually a single mine and at least one half-track for every 500 points as well.
  3. Kruger - It should be pretty close to the same set of steps for 98SE. Go to Control pane, then "display", then click around the tabs until you find the one which sets the resolution and color depth (it will have choices in a drop down menu like "256 colors", "16-bit" color, "32-bit" color. The game has to be run on at least 16-bit color. The resolution needs to be 1064 x 768. Look around and see if there is some sort of button on that screen for "Advanced" or "adapter". That should bring you to another box with (possibly) additional tabs on it. Just screw around in there and see if there is one for "monitor" (maybe not), and there should be something in there that deals with the refresh rate. I know that is vague as hell but somewhere in that array of stuff in "control panel" > "display"> is something that will allow you to set the refresh rate. There maybe some sort of control in there that says something about "optimize refresh rate". Fool around there and set it to something greater than 60 HZ. The problem you're having is the same one I had. Alternative, just delete the whole mess and DL the new demo which has been modified to avoid the problem.
  4. Well, on Windows XP it is contol panel>display> hit the settings tab, then the advanced button, then the monitor tab, and there is a little pull-down menu in the middle with the refresh rates.
  5. Posting here as well as the "Demo DL" thread: I upped my refresh rate to 70Hz (from 60Hz) and it works fine. The resolution is set at 1024 x 768 with 32 bit color.
  6. Hey Hubert and all, I just redid the DL of the demo and fresh installation. Resolution set at 1024 x 768 with 32 bit color depth. I changed the refresh rate to 70 from 60Hz. Works like a charm. I didn't give it the opportunity to try to make the adjustments to the monitor settings on its own as I wanted to give the increased refresh rate a try. I any event, thanks for all the help. Looks to be a fun little game!
  7. I like these RW. Especially the purchase limits on cheap armour and inf. along with the towed gun requirement (or a hotchkiss..LOL). As a practical matter, I'd like to note that the small cheap armour problem could likewise be dealth with a limit of no more than 3 of any single armoured vehicle per 1,000. I think the way the purchase works out in a combined arms match, it has no effect on the more reasonably priced armour because you can't afford more than 3 anyway. 8. Hmmmm.... that gives me hope as when I reported to Hubert what my refresh rate was set at, it was at 60Hz. I'll try it out when I get home.
  9. Oh Hubert, we have a miscommunication apparently. When I sent you the e-mail stating that I was playing a game at the moment and was not going to fool with the adjustments you recommended at that time, I was playing another game online with some friends, not SC. I have not yet tried your suggestions. I'll give it a try when I get home. We'll get it figured out. Thanks for the super help Hubert.
  10. Hubert, thanks for the help. I'll give the 16-bit color a try and see if that helps.
  11. Did a complete uninstall, fresh download and reinstallation. Same result. e-mail on its way. [ May 20, 2002, 07:49 PM: Message edited by: Agua ]
  12. Crashed my system almost immediately. Video went out while intro theme music was playing. I even had difficulty loading windows and had to enter through safemode then delete every bit of it. System: P3 1 Ghz Intel nVidia GF2 Ultra 64mb DDR (2.32 Detonator Drivers) Some crap Dell Mobo Audigy 5.1 X Gamer 512 SDRAM Windows XP Pro [ May 20, 2002, 07:14 PM: Message edited by: Agua ]
  13. Well, we don't really have a clue as to when release is. Have they even announced the winners of the armour modeling contest? I don't have a clue how long it would take to create a bunch of 3D armour models for the game but it wouldn't surprise me if it was a very significant amount of time. As long as we're guessing, I'll say mid-August to late October. Again, BTS doesn't worry about market timing. If you read the manifesto, you'll see that they believe a quality wargame just keeps on giving - in the long term sales go on and on as opposed to the shelf marketed stuff that goes out at Wal-mart in a splash, then can't be found six months later. CMBO has validated the truth of that. It wouldn't surprise me if CMBO's sales have actually increased as time goes by due to the fantastic word of mouth recommendations it gets across gaming forums. I'm still happy playing CMBO a year and a half later. I'll be happy waiting on CMBB.
  14. Yes, without question, it is the best computer wargame made to date. Perfect? No, but hey! that's what CMII is for, right?
  15. Ya, I was surprised by the absence of any treatment with regard to towing vehicles for ATG/IG in the face of such a thorough parsing / balancing of other elements of the game. Also, conspicuous by its absence, is any treatment of purchase/price related imbalances; specifically the M8HMC - in small battles, 1,000 points and under, I think 5 regular / 4 vets can be purchased in a ME combined arms game - the dreaded "M8 Horde".
  16. re - .50 cal immobilizing Tiger - I don't know whether it's possible or not, but it wouldn't surprise me if a .50 could pop the tracks.
  17. I have an Xtasy Ti 4600 GeForce 4, 128mb DDR / 300mgz graphic processor. I have the 28.32 drivers. No problems whatsoever. [edited to fully respond to the question] No tweaks, other than setting my AGP aperature in the BIOS to 256mb, but that was not necessitated by any problems with the card / CM. Sorry I can't be of any help. [ May 14, 2002, 07:03 PM: Message edited by: Agua ]
  18. Folks, this conversion is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Michael has been working on this thing for probably a month and has done a masterful job. The flavor permeates CM, and yet nothing is overdone or thrown in "just because it can be", if you know what I mean: tasteful, nothing gaudy. If you're a fan of ASL, this thing is a must have.
  19. Yeah, after you get used to it, it's pretty much an eyeball thing and you can find hull down positions vis a' vis your area of overwarch / target just about anywhere. BUT, until you get that familiar with finding it, the plain old "hunt" command, starting from a depression and going over a crest is pretty reliable.
  20. Yes, Mike deserves a ton of applause for his dedication to these conversions and the variety it has added to a fantastic game. A very talented, self-effacing and generous character you are Mike. Now, with Mike's head all swollen , if he will authorize, I have a set of very early scenarios which were being developed for FH before there was even a name for the project that he sent to me for I playtesting which I would be glad to send to you. There may be some in there that were not included in FH and certainly there were revisions to the scenarios which are part of the FH mission pack.
  21. Personally, I would not attempt this type of stunt, but not out of concern for "gameyness", rather I'm too concerned with trying to conserve my armoured resources. However, I wouldn't be upset by it as the map edge is part of the map as well. Now, if it was a cheap jeep or something that just rushed in deep along the edge at full blast, I might feel a little differently about it. So what am I saying here (working this out in my mind as I type): there seems to be an indication that the guy was pursuing his recce with a unit that might have a legitimate chance of actually surviving a scrape with your forces if he buggered out of there upon sight of something heavy. That seems a little more legitimate than a suicide jeep run into known hostile territory. So, I guess, I don't consider it to be a cheap tactic deserving disdain.
  22. HK - Go to http://www.avondell.com It is a guy's personal home page. On the left hand side you will see a link to a section of his site named "WWIIOL TIPS AND TWEAKS". He provided those for optimizing folks machines to play the great mother of all resource hogs, world war II online. However, they are simple little memory, video card, and mother board tweaks (some of which may be inapplicable), that can improve performance substantially. On my old machine, after doing simply a static memory tweak, cleaning my machine of crap files, enabling direct memory access for my hard drive, and a couple of small registry edits, I saw over a 30% increase in performance with my video card as measured by the 3D2000SE Benchmark utility. There are a lot of sites with tons of tweaks to improve performance, but I recommend Avondell's site because he does a great job of providing step by step instructions with screen shots of each step. Not all the tweaks can be performed on all systems, but there will be some which are applicable to your system. His directions are so simple and clear that you really can't miss. See if it helps you.
