  1. Further, I guess this would open the question of setting thermal distance based on force also. Especially if a Russian equipt T90 has a thermal range of 2,600 meters and and M1SEP is about 4,000 meters. ... I'll be quiet now ...
  2. I will look through the "OPFOR World Equipment Guide.pdf" in the TacOps library on the CD. My first glance through there showed thermals available for country variations of the T62M, T64B ... through the T90. Of course, the Russian Agava2 thermal or the French Sagem thermal are purported to only have a range of about 2,600 meters. I will see if I can find anything definitave about specific countries. I will attempt to have some basics by this Friday.
  3. Dan, My oldest surviving Mac is a Performa 6220CD 64MB RAM and 1GB hard disk. I was running OS 8.x with TacOps4 ... no problems ... I have since moved the OS to 9.1 on that machine. Still no problem. Load it up and have fun. Good gaming.
  4. Although there are no pre-made scenarios for amphib opns. In any 2 player PBEM you can set one up yourself. Maps ... lots of good maps for this can be found in the TacOps Headquarters Map Room. Map 130 is a real good one. Maps 502, 504 thru 508 give you some great dircetional opportunities. Map 544 has a very small coast but still could suite your needs. Maps 576 thru 581 is another series of good ones. Just drop into the map room and peek around. Also, quite a few of these are on yout TacOps4 CD. Happy gaming ...
  5. Quick question. I see we are discussing SC2 however, I have not seen [or can't find] any identified design criteria or scope from the maker. Obviously, I missed it somewhere ... can someone point me toward it?
  6. Major H, Follow up on my prior post. I have begun a 30x20 km map and I am going to make 2 versions of it. One with the current 2 ground elevations and one version with 4 ground elevations. I know you're quite busy of late so I do not expect a reply for a while. Heck, at my current pace, it's going to take me 'till September or so to get the base maps done.
  7. Echo, Belated welcome. I assume you are on the TacOps mailing list by now. Great fun, great CPXs, and a stand-up bunch of guys playing. Side note: TacOps has been the best 25 bucks I've spent in years.
  8. Henk, All the best to you. I have enjoyed and been enlightened by your posts and look forward to more when you are back on your feet.
  9. Major H, What I have learned: 1. There is a strong possibility [probablity] of adding another terrain level in the next release. 2. It takes me MONTHS and MONTHS to make a new map graphic. [i'm not that slow, just have to budget my time]. Assuming that it takes me the rest of this year to complete the map, can I add one new elevation layer or can I add two?
  10. I knnow I am kind of beating a dead horse here but I just wanted to note that instead of a SP editor I would love the ability to identify a map, starting forces and then follow on forces to enter later in the game. Obviously, a full blown Scenario Editor/Creator is well worth the wait.
  11. The cross platform works like a champ. As long as I remember to replace the .bms with .tac and back.
  12. Christmas ?!?! Christmas !?!?!?! And I was hoping for sooner. [kicking ground with foot] I guess I'll just have to learn to live with disappointment.
  13. Red is using a PII 300 Desktop / 128MB RAM / Win98SE. Blue bounces between a PII 266 Laptop / 256MB / Win2k Pro and a Mac G3 450 / 1GB / OS 9.2.2 I will get the orders and saves files together and send them to you within a day or two. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
  14. Does the game give accurate information to both sides in a PBEM [or other types] as to hit and kills? This question arises froma game I am currently playing where an airstrike attacked an OH58. On my opponants screen, it showed the OH58 being shot down, complete with sound and destroyed marker. On my screen, I saw the OH58 being shot at and I got the "H" marker for a hit, but the OH58 remained in play. Is this correct program behavior or is something amiss?
  15. This has never been a problem or concern with the folks I game with. But, now that you mention it .... hmmm
  16. Okay, i will run a few tests and see what happens. I was just hoping for an easy answer. I was also trying to get away from just plopping a ton of units on the map of a 200+ minute PBEM game. We obviously want to phase the troops in. You know full well that I will NOT tell you if it works as I don't want this "bug" fixed until I have a scenario editor/creator.
  17. Bumping myself ... hoping for a reply or insight.
  18. My question is directed toward using the Umpire options in PBEM in a standard scenario. My opponant and I both used the Umpire options prior to our 1st turns to change / modify our forces. Now, 75 turns later, we would like to access the Umpire tools and add forces. However, this is now Greyed-Out now that the game is in progress. Question 1. Are the Umpire Tools only available prior to the game's first turn? Question 2. Are the Umpire Tools not available in "Standard Scenarios" after the first turn? Question 3. Would using "Custom Scenario US Army" allow use of Umpire Tools after the game has begun? Thanks in advance for any assistance.
  19. I've still got my black & white manual and 3.5" diskettes. I just can't seem to part with them.
  20. Dang! No promises I can try to hld you to. Congrats on the USMC/Dept of Navy contract.
  21. Just another quick question that marries up with another post of mine. Do you plan to add another elevation or two to the mapping in v5? Personally, I am not a big fan of the unlimited elevations ... too hard to make a map, but adding one or two extra levels to the current system would add tremendously to the game. [Obviously, this is all my opinion]
  22. Major H, On the subject of possible enhansments and features. Can you give us a sneek preview of what you have planned in future releases? Also, could you could break them up by v4 updates and v5 features. Of course, you could just say no.
  23. The part of the definition of "Wargamer" you might have missed: Rules Lawyer
  24. I beleive this is a Strategic simulation. You're just not going to "sneek up" on a city. By the same token, you're not going to have an invasion go un-noticed.
  25. Not sure is this is a glitch or not. Scenario: Frolik8 & Gallagher8 We agreed on Pref settings & Scenario length. Red would set-up and send turn 1. Blue would receive & set-up, match prefs & time, send back turns 1&2. In both games the changed scenario length did not stick and reverted back to the scenario's default. We are trying again with Gallagher8, Blue side starting to see if this continues. Question1: Does the "order" of who sends first have anything to do with this? Question2: Is there something in v4 that prevents standard scenario game lengths from being changed in PBEM?
