  1. I think the TacOps boards may "seem" inactive due to the demographics of the people. Generally, we are an older lot and our shared hobby can not always be our top priority. Even though we may want it to be! Now, with the release of v4 the activity on the mailing list has gotten pretty verbous. Last note: even though I rarely post messages, I do check the posting here daily.
  2. Ahhh ... it all started back when I was 11 with Tactics II. I migrated in WWII games for many years and slowly my fasination with contemporary [modern] equipment and warfare grew. Then came 21 years in the U.S.Army .
  3. I would love to see a screenshot of the Italian Gabit landings. Sounds interesting ...
  4. Although I find this a very interesting mod, I have only one real reservation at this time. I can see where the Germans will get the MMPs to finish the shipping under construction however, the Brits will be just hanging on for years, where would they get the spare MMPs to finish their shipping? I think this mod would probably add even more of an advantage for the Axis. Just my 2 cents worth ...
  5. I am deep in the process of designing a "Screening Battle" as one of the most oft remarked things is failing the recon battle. So, before I go too far, I would like some ideas on what you all may want to see. I an using map781c as the base so we've got 15km North to South to fight on and 30km deep. Also, this will be multiplayer. What I am soliciting for is possible force structure(s) [OB] by country. Looking mainly at recon/scout type organizations. I've already got the US Armored Cav and OPFOR Recon Bn & Rgmt. I would like others ... Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
  6. Bill, Only transports can make the transit from the S.Atlantic to the Suez. No warships ... it's just the way it is ...
  7. Out of curiousity, where do you find out how many post you have made?
  8. The Major Wrote: P.S. The "two players on one computer" mode will probably disappear completely on the road to TacOps v5 - to be replaced by a scenario creation/editing mode. ------------------------------------- Scenario creation/editing mode ... be still my beating heart. A dream coming true!
  9. Noted ... thank you both.
  10. I was curious about how to convert the most recent map I made [781c] into a .png as I see in the Extras Folder/Print Maps. Inoticed that they have the grid lines and numbers on them and, as of yet, I have been unable to get a "complete" screenshot of my new map. Any information will be appreciated. Jeff
  11. Damn good question ... Hopefully, someone has already looked into this. Otherwise, my curiousity is piqued and I will spend this coming weekend playing around with this.
  12. Hubert Cater, Thanks for the prompt reply. Go ahead and take a Christmas break, have a few egg-nogs, relax ... come January 2003 ... back to work! Again, thanks for a very enjoyable game.
  13. If this is a revenue generating ploy ... I'll pay !!!
  14. Granted I have NOT yet read all the November postings on the USA production topic however, at first blush, the impression I get from some of the arguments [discussions] are: the US production is at its current level due to, "War in the Pacific", "building Liberty ships, convoy escourts and the production and shipping of war goods to the UK & USSR" Obviously, this all makes sense ... until ... If the UK is kncoked out of the war and Germany / Italy rule the Atlantic ... all these US materials are being lost [abstractly] due to no one to ship to. Question 1: Should US production [MMP] be increased if the UK is out of the war? Question 2: If the US is going to be penalized with low MMPs due to all the "give aways" they did, shouldn't they receive their full MMPs and decide for themselves who to ship it to? Okay, before anyone gets a chance to shoot too many holes in these questions ... I am now going to go read the prior thread.
  15. ... this area" not "this site" Sorry ...
  16. When trying to access the TacOps HQ, I got the following message, "You do not have access to this site." I trust the site is undergoing an upgrade? Or ...
  17. One more thing I've noticed. When [if] the UK is conquored and the US is in the fight,, the Canadian resources go no where. The US can land troops there to garrison a frienly country but don't get the MMPs. Considering the Canadian USA relationship of that age ... doesn't this seem strange?
  18. Even thought I like the idea of splitting out the Air Fleets into types [Fighter, Tac, Bomber etc.] and also making different units for rocketry vice rocket artillery. Right now I would have to say, "Where the heck am I to put the units?" Without stacking or a much bigger map, we don't have the room for every niche type unit. Maybe another item for Hubert's SC2 master wish list? I'll bet that list is huge by now. Anyway, the game as is plays out pretty darn well against matched opponants.
  19. I have read through the manual and looked abit in these forums ... no avail. My question is: Do minor countries [Axis and/or Allies] draw supply from the Major Powers HQ? It appears that they do not [example: Canada draws no supply from UK HQs] Assuming they do not, does this tie the minors to working around cities only and even that at half supply? Thanks in advance for any response.
  20. You could also try out SNACK for Mac users. At one time the Major was toying with the idea of including it into TacOps4. I went ahead and downloaded the trial version and then went ahead and registered it. Good solid product, good support ... hilly learning curve ... well, it was for me.
  21. At the risk of sounding like a sales guy or a schill for TacOps, I feel the need to reply on the "AI Sucks" train of thought. The AI does as it is advertised ... it mimics the former Soviet doctrine very well. What I seem to be reading is the desire for a million dollar AI on a $25 budget. I am sure if you offer the Major a certified check for the FULL million, he will give you a verbos AI and throw in a scenario editor to boot.
  22. I don't beleive I have ever had ZERO casualties. I have been stomped unmercifully but both the AI and PBEM opponants early on. And occasionally still in PBEM. I do not know which version of TacOps I started with but it did include the book version of the manual [i still have it] and I loaded the diskettes on my MacSE ... yup, that's right, a black and white 8MHz monster machine with a whopping 4MB of RAM.
  23. Too bad it hasn't made it to their web site yet.
  24. I am sure this was answered in a prior post, I just could not find it I would like to do the following, 2 player PBEM US Army Custom Scenario Using a custom version of Map780c [i removed all the hard coded bridges] I would like to place bridges before the game having both sides able to see them. Once the game begins, I would like to destroy certain bridges and only have the Blue player know. The Red player would have to spot / recon to find out. Thanks for any advise.
