Axis flags in CMBO; why different?
Doug Williams replied to a topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)

So, Jeff, were you a member of the "Plano" or "Ziplock" camp of counter storage? I seem to recall the ASL community being bitterly divided over this issue..... -Doug

Axis 88mm AT guns...what's the diff?
Doug Williams replied to Doug Williams's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Thanks for the info, gentlemen. -Doug -
Would someone please tell me the difference, both in real life and in game terms, what the difference is between the 88mm PaK 43 and the 88mm Pak 43/41? Looking at the info box, they both have exactly the same penetration figures, and both are listed as "immobile". The Pak 43 costs four points more to purchase in a QB. What's the difference?

Elite HMG 42 opens up on a Pershing
Doug Williams replied to Freak's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Well, if I was an Elite HMG team and found myself in a two story building with a Pershing underneath me, not only would I open fire with the HMG, I would probably jump down on top of the tank and take it out by shooting my HMG through one of the vision slits, while gritting my combat knife between my teeth, with heroic music playing in the background! Rambo, eat your heart out. [This message has been edited by Doug Williams (edited 03-27-2001).] -
I think you mean Panzertruppen. I tried them, but I am now using Magua's buildings. The Panzertruppen buildings need more variety, IMHO. Just personal taste. I agree. Those are very nice. Nice, but isn't that an Italian camo scheme? I really don't see myself replacing Fernando's Panthers on my HD in the near future (maybe never). Agreed. That Tiger gets my vote for "best vehicle mod ever made". It's by Kwazydog, BTW. All must-haves. I haven't tried those. I'm pretty happy with DD's terrain. -Doug

Swampy, Here's my quick mod guide. D/L and install these in the order I give... (1) Mad Matt's Mod packs(1&2) (2) Nightcrawlers sound mod (3) DD's terrain (everything) (4) DD's uniforms (5) Bergman's stuff (Shermans, Stuarts) (6) Fernando's Panther's and German halftracks (7) Magua's Allied halftracks (8) Tigers Cromwells, Churchhills, Allied tank destroyers, Axis AA guns, Stugs, etc. That's a good start. After that, hunt around and install what strikes your fancy. Perhaps DeanCo's interface mod. There are many other good ones that I haven't mentioned. Hope you have a fast PC with a good video card. Have fun! -Doug

Mod Manger vs Regular Way

What Maximus said. Installing mods is so simple, what's the point? -
Tiger, Do you plan on doing a full set of replacement skies?

Hi Mom! (Wow! First time for me...) -
New to modding? - give PC Modmanager a try
Doug Williams replied to Apache's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Friend, I have a great many more than 45 mods installed and I don't use mod manager. You don't have to drag and drop each separate BMP file. Simply unzip into a TEMP folder, left click Edit, then Select All, then Copy. Find the CMBO BMP folder, right click and select Paste. Done. It takes longer to say it than to do it. Of course, you might want to read the ReadMe file that sometimes comes with the zip file to see if the author provided different options (turret numbers, etc.) that you might want to select before copying to the CMBO BMP folder. Some authors, like Mr. Bergman, like to use batch files to select different nationalities before starting the game. Personally, I don't use these, but many do. Edit: Oops, let me be more clear. I do use Mr. Bergman's wonderful mods, just not the batch files. This essentially means all my Shermans have either US or British markings. Not a problem for me, as I play American side most of the time. [This message has been edited by Doug Williams (edited 03-21-2001).] -

First everyone in the U.S. Army gets a black beret to make them feel "special". Now, let's take away their tanks. Sheesh! What are we going to do if, God forbid, we get into another war? Give 'em a mean look? Doug "I'd rather have an Abrams than a black beret." Williams [This message has been edited by Doug Williams (edited 03-20-2001).] -

Doug Williams replied to Zenaphobe's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I agree. I have Mojo's "muddy" jeep mod, and while an improvement over the original, it still looks too bright green and out of place beside the other modded vehicles. We need someone to do a nice hi-res weathered jeep... -
Where do you find the patience?

Navare, Re: Longest Day. Yes, I believe we played one of the small scenarios, and it still took an entire day of intensive playing to finish it. Those days are gone for me. Nowadays, I prefer computer wargames. No more cardboard. No more arguments over rules. Always an opponent (the AI) who is available, etc... -

Doug Williams replied to KingOPork's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I once, in days of yore, played an Avalon Hill board game called The Longest Day with a wargaming friend of mine. We started playing at about 8 AM, and finished playing at about 6 PM, only stopping for food and bathroom breaks. The outcome of the game came down to one die roll in the end..... -
