DC Area CM Meeting #2 - Sat. Oct. 20 @ 7:00 PM
LimShady replied to JessRobinson's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Argh! You people have to start having these, AFTER I move from the DC/Baltimore area. Chris -

quote:
Originally posted by Babra: The GOOD scenario designers can help out with this by having the reinforcements arrive over several turns by platoons, and at slightly separated locations, instead of a gigantic charlie foxtrot which tries to arrange itself around a pinhead.

Well this scenario was designed by Franko, so I suspect he had his reasons (namely conforming to historical accuracy ) do bring in the battalion reinforcement... German Armour development during WWII
LimShady replied to Enoch's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)

quote:
Originally posted by JasonC: All of which, incidentally, is exactly the function that seperate TD battalions and independent armor battalions performed in the U.S. army in the same period, or why they were not permanently asssigned to a single infantry division.

Well although there were never any formal attachments, by the middle of Fall 1944, the US Army kept assigning the same armor batallions to infantry divisions so that tank/infantry teams could stay intact. On a different note, in Camp Colt to Desert Storm, the author notes that the only real time the TD doctrine was carried out was at El Guettar in North Africa. Chris -
Should I have my Tanks Buttoned?
LimShady replied to Panther G's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
In close terrain like cities and the one road through the forest I'll button 'em up. Chris -

quote:
Originally posted by SS_Obergruppenführer: Well, not as much blurry as pure crap. It's completely messed up. You can't even know it's the sky. The CMBO maps where you fight are squares, as is the sky. It's so messed up, you can see that. It does not look like a sphere. Why is that?

Must be the new German uber-weapon to confuse and ground the Allied air forces. Chris

100% Success Rate for Amphibious Invasions?
LimShady replied to CombinedArms's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Also forgot to add the Japanese landing on the Bataan pennisula. Chris -

quote:
Originally posted by Martin Cracauer: That might backfire (hehe) victory-point wise. A tank crew member is about twice as much worth as a riflemen and the risk of even having them captured is big. Especially when you hold the victory flags you shoud think twice about committing your crews to anything. Martin

This has been discussed previously, but in my games, I've found crews useful in guarding prisoners well to the rear of the fighting. Chris

Mounted infantery in setup problem
LimShady replied to Scipio's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)

quote:
Originally posted by Scipio: In the 'Singling Shootout' scenario, I start with several tanks with mounted infantery. In the setup phase, I can't neither move the mounted infantry nor the tanks. Well, from some kind of view it make sense that I can't disembark the infantry, but why can I not move the tanks with the infantry on it? I've also noticed that the infantry don't always disembark when I give the order. Yes, they have enough time before the tank starts to move.

I noticed this too. See: http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=001039 Chris -
BTS Manifesto - The TRUTH Exposed!!!!
LimShady replied to kverdon's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)

quote:
Originally posted by Scipio: Don't believe him...the truth is: BTS is a Combat Training & Test programm. The BTS crew is not from planet Earth! It's a secret recruiting crew from Planet Rylos. The best CM player will be abducted to lead alien forces in a intergalactic war. I log out now...I feel they are coming for me...

A la The Last Starfighter? Chris -

quote:
Originally posted by nedlam: I haven't even seen the scenario yet but I'll bet dollars to donuts that they're initial placed outside of any designated allied set up area. Just a guess. Nedlam

It's really weird, but in the scenario (came with the CD, BTW) there are three setup zones: white, red, and blue zones. I can only move one tank in the blue zone but nothing else. Chris

Has anyone tried playing this with V1.12? Seems to me that in the US setup phase, the tanks are not padlocked, but you cannot move them from their starting positions. Some of them are pretty exposed in the initial state. Chris

I just finished reading the account of the attack on Lucherberg by the 104th Division from Against the Panzers. First thing they did was to unload their weapons and attack with fixed bayonets. Anyone firing would immediately seen as enemy. Wish CM would do this. LimShady

100% Success Rate for Amphibious Invasions?
LimShady replied to CombinedArms's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Granted, this is just speculation, but if we had implemented the Operation Downfall for the invasion of the Japanese home islands, I could one of the three landing on Kyushu being defeated. LimShady -

Hey Guys (and Gals, you know who you are), I was looking for a site that had PDF files. Specifially, it had the German assesment of the Sherman tank. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks, LimShady
