Having been a little frustrated at some Quick battle maps I've created QB type forces with a more realistic map. The forces are British vs German (Heer), 3000pts each. This game is designed to only be played vs a human opponent, it is tournement saved, German's first move. E-mail me if you would like to try this out, let me know how it goes

Autopurchase loves 251/1 halftracks. Why?
Lah replied to Jarmo's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
They are good with the right sort of map, large and with lots of cover. -
Surely this is a bug with the AI during setup?
Lah replied to Olle Petersson's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
You could try making a number of small setup boxes in sensible places. -
But if one guy hasn't setup yet then how's the other isn't going to have any information even with your recon idea?
-
Also, will the US air support ever turn up as I have heard of problems with air support in operations.
-
There are nights every second turn in this operation. In a PBEM game are these night turns skipped or is it only if both the players choose to skip them? Does anyone know if this is suitable for PBEM?

Artillery Barrage: Sit still or run away?
Lah replied to Doug Williams's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I guess if it's large calibre which has longer gaps between the shells dropping you could issue a withdraw order, timing though -
Artillery Barrage: Sit still or run away?

I found 'hide' is the best for reducing casualties. -
Btw I'm assuming you meant your saved scenario/PBEM files?
-
You need to go to properties in each file and tick them from 'read only' to 'archive'.

I know that if my unit is tired and halt them for a couple turns they become rested. What about pausing them each turn, are the pauses cumulative in any way to them recovering fatigue?

If the platoon HQ is dead then they can take command from a company HQ. This is probably what happened, you must of had a company HQ close by with good command attributes. Don't kill your platoon HQ, it won't help you in the slightest.

They are handy in towns too, clearing a building

Using artillery against targets in a town
Lah replied to Sgt Homer's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Aww no I caught a glimpse of your forces Homer! soz m8. When I said don't waste your arty in the town I mean standard artillery not the mega stuff. Have a go if you like but I wouldn't. I once had a game with a platoon in a large heavy building being pounded all round by 210mm artillery. I just moved them to the centre of the building and told them to hide, they came through with minimal casualties. definatly don't waste lower calibre arty in towns. -
Poll: which FOW option are you using?
Lah replied to Juardis's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
It's best to use full fog of war. From what I understand if you use anything less the enemy can see your troops as much as you can see theirs. I think you will not be able to appreciate the true game unless you use full fog of war. But have fun experimenting at first -
Go to the map editor and pick all the various Shermans. preview the map and click on a Sherman and press enter. This way you can compare the differences in armour, armourment, speed etc. That should give you much of the info your looking for.

Maus? that's David, I remember him from college!

You can kill a JagdPanther with a top hit from a British 3in mortar. JagdTiger wins hands down, I've not tried it in CM yet but that's the sort of bugger you stick on a dominating hill, and dominate

CM-UTDB : Unit Research - Wespe & M8 Greyhound
Lah replied to Manx's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Wespe: I like to buy one and keep it hidden out of harms way till late in the game. Then wheel it out and blast out annoying pockets of infantry. -
I like to use them with a sharpshooter to button the armour first.

Babra, I had a couple people scout with crews, so I explained it was gamey, politely. They had no idea it was a 'gamey' tactic and stopped doing it straight away. Also don't forget to tell them that it will bring their victory and morale ratio down sacrificing crew
