  1. They didn't ride into battle though, did they? I assume like armoured infantry they dismount to fight.
  2. Ahh you got there with the answer first
  3. One problem with CM1 is that it might pick say 10 Kangeroo's and a couple Sherman's that have to face numerous SPG's. I hope CM2 can do something better for play balance. I would love to use random forces for ladder games but unless it's right I don't see this option being used at all by people.
  4. I would like to see an option for preset forces in CM2. Instead of having the random force choice as we have it now I would like to have the game pick at random from a number of preset forces. This way we can eliminate the whacky combinations that we end up with now and instead find ourselves with platoons of one type of tank etc which would be more realistic. Maybe this could be implimented in a future update?
  5. I have met very few 'gamey' players from many opponents on the Rugged defence ladder. The people who do play like that I find are crap at the game anyway so they still lose!
  6. I would say definatly not, that seems a realistic organisation. It is not gamey picking them but it can be on how you use them. Like jeeps they are not gamey until you use them to rush forward to expose enemy positions. The same goes for using any unit used to wrongly just to get a win.
  7. s'funny that Chad, I do the same thing with the names for the same reasons
  8. My fav's are vet Marder II's to take out the enemy armour, with 75mm HT's or A/cars in support for the HE, or Wespe's if the $ allow. With this force the game is definatly not lost with some of your AFV's brewed. I do tend to play Fionn rules so this force may have a bit harder time vs gamey players.
  9. We play operations where people take one battle each on the Rugged defence team ladder: http://www.rugged-defense.nl/cm/Groups/ladder2.htm This method works very well though we only play 1 operation at a time with the teams. 3 operations might be a lot but I would reccomend you give this a try for a diferent perspective on playing CM.
  10. Nice one Chad Some people have been asking how the teams’ ladder works. Well most of the games are just like a normal PBEM battle against one opponent; the difference is that you are representing your team and nationality or state. We do have team challenges where one team all plays individual games against another team. Recently we have also started playing Operations, but in these we have a different team player taking a separate battle of the operation. I do like the operations, you value your own troops a lot more when you know you have to pass the remnants on to one of your teammates If you are already on the Rugged defence ‘individual’ ladder then you can ask your opponent for the battle to count on both ladders if they agree, which makes for higher stakes. The amount of effort needed is not that much at all, people usually play the occasional game for their team, you just ask the team leader to fix up a game for you. Players need not worry about their experience level of the game, most teams have a wide variety and all the players and team leaders I know seem to be nice people. We have ideas cooking for future events and a team tournament, also the ladder is updated on a regular basis, feel free to contact me if you are interested: leab@btinternet.com
  11. Another time saver for plotting movement is clicking on a waypoint then pressing the spacebar to change it.
  12. Redwolf, The most important HQ bonus I meant was the stealth, and being back in the trees my opponents often complain about not knowing what hit them I didn't know about the combat modifier not affecting AT guns though. Still, I prefer guns back in woods as they seem to get something before being KO, just gotta keep them hidden till the right moment.
  13. Get veteran AT guns. *Important* Have them with a HQ unit that has a double stealth bonus and a combat bonus or more, (the ? and lightning strike icons, etc). Find a patch of trees that can see the most of the battlefield as possible, forget this keyhole nonesense. Place them not at the front of the treeline but further in, this makes them harder to be spotted and gives better cover. Also get a couple veteran on-map mortars to take your opponents AT guns out, ideally in transport.
  14. Put a big dollop of smoke right in front of it, then move your boys about to where you want, repeat as needed.
  15. With off map artillery you hear it coming in with woooshing sounds, on map doesn't make that sound. If huge artillery get on your nerves then agree to play by Fionn's rules. I find little tricks can get the opponent to use up their artillery. SPLIT squads with an advancing platoon and move them into trees so your opponent thinks you just moved 2 platoons there. Or do the same but pull your troops out by a hidden route and let your opponent pound away at nothing. Play using deception leaving your opponent with a false idea of the battlefield and what is where. I often let them see a couple split squad platoons but keep the bulk of my infantry from view untill I'm sure most of the artillery is used up. Don't forget smoke to hide your movements too.
  16. If you do that with the tiles then you might see water but others playing your scenario will still see ice.
  17. The Rugged defence team ladder is back working again after having no administration for some time. In that time a number of teams have folded or lost members. If you wish to take over running an empty team or join one of the existing teams then please contact me at: leab@btinternet.com The ladder address: http://www.rugged-defense.nl/cm/Groups/ladder2.htm The teams that end with 'Disbanded!' are available to be taken over and re-named. At present I prefer not starting any new teams until the current ones are taken. The teams I know that are recruiting: USA - Great Lakes USA - The Stonewall brigade To see the team status page: http://lahshome.homestead.com/groupinfo.html I am looking to make this a busy ladder again with future plans and ideas, I hope this appeals to you [ 12-30-2001: Message edited by: Lah ]</p>
  18. I'm not going to vote for mine, instead I found an opponent to play it with and will ask them to vote/comment when we finished play.
  19. I don't seem to be able to find any details about the maximum points size games in CM2. I'm interested in playing some 'quick battle' 10,000pt+ epics, will these be available?
  20. Just had a look at my copy of the CD. The print quality is too good for it to have done more than a couple thousand. After that the squee-gee gets nicks and you start getting feint lines through the CD print. Hold the CD up to the light and move it to catch the light on the print to see the lines, the black area at the top will show it best. If you don't believe me try it with other CD's. Other indications of a longer run 5k-10k + are leaks of colour on the outer edge of the CD or in the very centre But of course a good printer like myself will fix those probs straight away
  21. My job is printing CD's in a large UK company. So judging by how well other games sell I would say 50,000 in runs of 10,000 a time. Though these guys don't operate by selling through the usual outlets so it is hard to really know without 'chart' standings.
