  1. Looking forward to the EF, and for urban areas would love to see this level of capability for fortifying houses.
  2. I'm still just "Confirmed" status for my pre-order, mine has not yet "Shipped", so no e-mail notification for me yet. I did not pre-order until April, so if they are shipping by when the order was placed, I'm still waiting my turn ... thankfully I've got the download up and running so it's all good, for me.
  3. The one I've PBEM'ed with is a group of wargamers that started as LeadEaters, then kinda migrated to become the "The Blitz", http://www.theblitz.org/ They have been around for years, and have support for opponents for a number of wargames, in addition to Combat Mission: http://www.theblitz.org/rules_of_engagement/Games-Supported/rid=4 The Combat Mission ladder is at http://www.theblitz.org/ladders/Combat-Mission/action=ladder&lid=1, and the Combat Mission forum is at http://www.theblitz.org/message_boards/forumdisplay.php?fid=10 The "Combat Mission Welcome Letter" is posted at: http://www.theblitz.org/message_boards/showthread.php?tid=55613 Hope that helps!
  4. I used to PBEM with the old LeadEaters, and migrated when it kinda became the Blitz, so they've been around for a number of years. The Combat Mission ladder is at http://www.theblitz.org/ladders/Combat-Mission/action=ladder&lid=1, and the Combat Mission forum is http://www.theblitz.org/message_boards/forumdisplay.php?fid=10. That's where I plan to continue to do the majority of my CM PBEM, but there are other Combat Mission ladders out there, too.
  5. FWIW, I was running Windows 7 64-bit with fairly recent 11.2 ATI drivers, and also had the same issue until I installed the current 11.5 drivers. Just a few months made a difference, the 11.5 did the trick for me, as well.
  6. I had Norton AntiVirus do the same thing to me, it didn't like the fact that I had an executable file downloaded from filefactory with so few users having used it, giving it a "low reputation score"! Just another example that "the wisdom of crowds" is not always reliable. Otherwise, I've been a satisfied Symantec customer for years, and am happy with the current version of Norton AntiVirus, which so far is unperturbed with the release version of CM:BN, kudos to the team for their hard work to make AV software happy. FWIW, I have not had to fiddle with my installation of Norton AntiVirus to launch CM:BN, so far.
  7. I agree on the Blu-ray recommendataion, and it appears that Amazon has it on Blu-ray for another $13 off for today only as a "Deal of the Day" for Friday the 13th. I already have it on Blu-ray or I'd take advantage of it at $23.49 (74% off). [commercial url]
  8. I'd also appreciate consideration if there is room. Altho I date back to the "old days", I was not in the RoW mix back then but now I am between wives ...
  9. As others have posted, "Castle" is great! If I could only watch one current TV show, "Castle" would be my pick (I'm also one of the old "Firefly" fans). As per the original topic, WWII is what I'm excited about, more so than Normandy itself ... CM:BB is my favorite CM, but eagerly looking forward to CM:BN.
  10. Thanks for the update, and thanks to all for the hard work getting us to this point.
  11. I agree, CM:BB is my favorite. CM:BN is on pre-order, but I also plan to pick up Panzer Command: Ostfront, too, and hope that PCO will turn out to be an enjoyable tactical experience, as well.
  12. I'm also looking forward to owning both, I don't mind a change of pace with different implementations and look forward to having both fronts available to enjoy ... tactical WW II is my preference, I sure do appreciate the efforts of those giving me options.
  13. June 6th sees the release of Sam Peckinpah's Cross of Iron on Blu-Ray. http://forum.blu-ray.com/united-kingdom/166097-cross-iron.html#post4569326
  14. I'm glad to see WWII back in the mix, I've got mine on pre-order, too.
  15. I have CM:BN on pre-order, but I'm looking forward to getting both, it's a great time for tactical wargaming! What's the worst that could happen? If one is much better than the other and gets most of my time and enjoyment, I'll still have the other one for if I want a change of pace and spend some time on the other front.
  16. Thank you, Schrullenhaft, and please pass my thanks on to Philip Culliton, as well. I was also experiencing this "floating black box" issue on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 running Catalyst 10.12 drivers. I followed your advice, downloaded and checked the CMBB and CMAK demos. They did not have the issue, so I got both 1.04 patches and I'm pleased to report that the "floating black box" issue is no longer present for me in CMBB & CMAK.
  17. Cpt. Kloss, for my 9700 Pro I had to roll all the way back to the Catalyst 3.0 drivers, if you are still having trouble I would suggest trying them if they'll work on a 9800 Pro. I tried the 3.4, 3.2, 3.1, no joy, altho I did not fiddle with all the settings (FSAA, AF, etc.). Unfortunately, the 3.4's had a fix I wanted, that's why I had installed them. I just bought a CD-ROM drive, to try to rebuild an old PII-450 just to run CM, with a GeForce 3 Ti 500 I have. That way I'll also be able to take advantage of CMAK, if it has the horsepower to handle decent size battles ... fortunately I pretty much just PBEM and I'm not a big fan of the larger battles anyway. IMHO, this is a sad state of affairs, no matter who is to blame. At least Apple had the smarts to obsolete their old API, looks like Microsoft will need to do the same since the hardware folks are not supporting these old API calls in their current drivers. And, some folks are like me in that they need some of the functionality that only exists in the latest drivers. I expect that these boards will see an increase in traffic once the retail versions of CM hit the shelves ...
  18. I guess I'm going to see if I can resurrect an old PII-450. I may only need to buy a CD-ROM drive & I've got a GeForce 3 Ti 500 for it ... if I get it working and it can handle CMBB I'll have a box just for CM and I'll get fog again. Kinda sad it's come to that, but I really do need to use the Catalyst 3.4's on my 9700 Pro.
  19. Yes, SunKing, that's the form I've been using, thank you for posting the link and the admonition, tho. I had to roll all the way back to the Catalyst 3.0, what I had been using, to get the text to display. I tried the 3.4, 3.2, 3.1, no joy. Unfortunately, the 3.4's had a fix I wanted, that's why I had installed them. As others have said, most of the fault lies with ATI, but realistically CM is using such an old DirectX implementation that the drivers don't support it even if the DirectX spec says they should. I am less critical of Apple dropping the support for the old API the more that I see the reality of the hardware vendors driver implementaions. *sigh* I was really looking forward to CMAK, but my faith in being able to run it is wavering ... Looks like this board will be busy once the retail versions hit the shelves with a whole new crop of frustrated video card owners. 9700 Pro, Win XP.
  20. I upgraded to the Catalyst 3.4 drivers since they fixed a problem in another program. Unfortunately, I now have the white text problem, too. I'm headed off to the ATI site to report it. *sigh*
  21. This sounds like a positive move in a new direction, I'm pleased to hear it! Myself, I still PBEM CMBO alongside CMBB, and enjoy it. FWIW, I sure wish there was some way to use this as an opportunity bring the DirectX 5.x API calls (or whatever they are) up to today's reality, too. Since this would also benefit CMAK (which I'm really looking forward to! ) I personally see this as a big benefit, not just propping up an "old" game. I know it's the hardware vendors' fault that they are not fully supporting the older DirectX 5 calls that are officially still in the newest DirectX's, but the end result is the same ... even if it is just a lack of fog, as in ATI's case.
  22. This is very good news, indeed! Congratulations to Fernando and to BF.C!
  23. It is unfortunate that CM:AK will inherit all the problems that the current engine is having with the lack of proper driver support. I would be willing to pay more if the engine can be brought up to more "current" API calls. I know there is no guarantee that the hardware vendors won't let us down again, but ATI, NVIDIA, and Apple all seem to have problems with the old API calls CM uses.
