You guys better completely avoid CMBN, FI, and RT because your delicate sensibilities will completely shattered if you ever play those games. I always get a kick out of the self-righteous manufactured outrage that flows like water nowadays. People live their lives just praying something will pop up and offend them.

I don't give a **** either way, whether it's there or isn't, but they said NO. Stamping feet and crying about it every month or two doesn't change what they said. That's the point. No still pretty much means no in most dictionaries. Steve possibly, yet again, spending precious time explaining why they said no, on the fifteenth stupid @ss Steam argument is a waste of resources. I'd rather have him talk about the actual game.

Big deal, 1200 views...every argument thread gets lots of views. Wait, let me guess...it's the magic of Steam! Steam makes reading fundemental! Lose 100lbs of fat in only 9 hours...with Steam! Got wrinkles...Steam will fix them! LOL.

Look, I am on Steam. I have no problem with Steam. I have Rome II, Shogun II, Medieval II, Left 4 Dead, and Sniper Elite V2 all on Steam. So, what?

Am I missing something?  That article looked like a shallow summary of this thread and offered no additional info on how great it would be on steam.  Absolutely no offense intended @astano BTW.

I am still scanning through the comments in case there is value there - so far not really.  I have to admit I don't understand peoples' position who insist they will only buy games via steam.

Then again people often look at me strangely when I explain my position that I will not buy subscription software.  I respect your decision - it is yours.  I don't expect Adobe will change their position to only offer subscription licensing for some of their software though.  The key is respect. Adobe and I disagree and I have told them so - once.  I respect their decision and that is that.  They respected me by taking me off their mailing list

The most recent changes that BFC has implemented regarding their installation procedures have eliminated most, if not all, of your complaints. BFC has, for some time now, allowed unlimited downloads of any game purchased from them. BFC has stated before, in these very forums, that should they ever "go out of business" they will make sure that all software purchased from them will be installable and playable.

Like I said earlier, I'm not against Steam. I have purchased probably 20 games from Steam. It's just that, to me, whether or not a game is on Steam makes little difference to my purchasing decisions. All this "give me Steam or give me death" nonsense makes me just shake my head.

Time to close the door on another episode of "Steam, or BFC goes out of business", IMO.

Hey, I think I'll go ahead and order CMBS now, even though I was previously going to wait until it was released. :-)

Been playing since CMBN and I just wanted to say thank you Bil for your excellent posts as I have been following for quite some time without joining the forums.

Quite excited for this next installment and even more excited for what BF will be able to accomplish with their next game engine in the future!

    I checked into it last year. It looks like fun. But I had a couple problems;

I couldn't find a demo. And demos for me are very important when it comes to seeing how well my comp will handle something. That's my first priority...next would be actual game play.

The second being that it's RTS...the thing I dislike most about these games is built right into the name; Real Time. These guys make these incredibly beautiful games, like Rome II and Wargame, in full glorious 3D, but when you play them (as you see in the video) it's from the nosebleeds, and you are all over the screen clicking this little unit and that little unit, and something goes boom, so you jump over here, and something goes boom over there, so you jump over there, and you are all over the place. Meanwhile, you have these gorgeous, jaw dropping graphics going to waste because you are so busy clicking everywhere you don't have time to enjoy them. I never understood the point of the 3D when you spend the entire game well above the battle. Now, if there is a save feature where you can re-watch afterward that goes a long way in helping with that, at least you can go back and see 80% of what you missed while you were just trying to beat the scenario.

But that is exactly why I like CM. I can play in WEGO and get the benefit of the VCR instant replays on each turn which do play out in real time. I don't have to miss any of what the game was supposedly designed to show me. The 3D graphics are there to enhance the game play and immersion, if they weren't then all these games would look like Steel Panthers. LOL. It's not that I am old, or crotchety (like a lot of RTSers will tell you), it's that I want to enjoy all the game has to offer, not just the clicking faster than my enemy part.  It's really hard to find that happy medium with these full on Real Time games. For every one cool thing you get to see, you are missing twenty on the other side of the map. I want to see all of it.

But I'll probably give this one a try eventually.

P.S. does it have a replay feature, and single player missions? A battle editor? It was almost a year ago when I checked it out.

Well, when we have to listen to it from the same people EVERY time something gets released, over multiple threads, after it has already been explained forty times in the past that life and labor isn't free, then it is whining. Nobody cares if they don't buy it...what we care about is all the negativity and constant bitching because they can't get something for nothing. Don't like it, don't buy it...doesn't get any simpler than that. But they do want it and just don't want to pay for it.

I want BFC to produce lots more stuff for all the various families, as much as they can and a bunch of guys complaining about it with every release is a disincentive to that happening. Discouragement and negativity doesn't help get things made. But if it were up to some of the guys on here CMBN would've been left at 1.01 (without any of the newer features) just so they could save 10 bucks. We finally got the holy grail of wargaming and and all a vocal minority can do is complain about every cool thing that comes out. I for one am sick of it and don't have the patience to wade through it anymore. So, if I hurt a couple guys feelings, tough. I want to see more titles/modules/packs not less and I am willing to pay for it. People that get in the way of that happening piss me off.

When people who have been here a long time, and particpated in many a thread on this subject tell you it's been discussed to death...yeah, just ignore them.

Here's the deal, BFC doesn't want to do it. Get over it.

I noticed 'cause you are always telling us. But anyway I don't have a dog in this fight. If BFC stays away from Steam I am fine. If they join up with Steam, I am fine. It has no bearing on my existence or gaming.

So, ok software genius type guy...see if you can figure out how to fix the blood bug in Shogun II. You do that and I'll join the Steam scream team.

So, show us this super successful game company that you created—you always seem to have a smarmy little dig to throw out there—put your money where your mouth is. Show us this ingenius ground breaking tactical wargame you've made, show us your super-awesome website, and show us your massive sales figures. You seem to be quite the authority. Show BFC how it's done.
