  1. I just had the coolest thing happen...well they were my guys getting wasted but it was righteous! One of my Shermans was moving quick around a clump of trees, I was zoomed all the way in 'cause I was trying to figure out what happened to the tank and crew in the first place, anyway as the tank goes by this clump of trees I see a grenade come tumbling out of the corner of the screen. It lands underneath the Sherman and KAPOW immoblizes it. Next thing I hear is the hatch popping and the crew, all unhurt, begins to crawl out, just as they are about to stand POWPOWPOWPOWPOW! They were dealt a massive dose of german death lead! It was SO COOL! I watched it like five times just from the angle of the Germans in the trees. Then from a couple different perspectives. One time I clicked on the crew and their health jumped over to the casualty box so quick it was almost instantaneous. GOD!! I LOVE THIS GAME!!
  2. LMAO! No Problem for personal consumption only I assure you. Now where the hell did I put that Preperation H?
  3. It's a damn shame when a computer company takes a legendary game and makes a mockery of it. I never played ASL but I have been playing games long enough(I own a ton of old TSR games and the like)to know how repected it is. You'd expect more from Microprose! They are not what they used to be. Well in fairness Since Combat Mission has come into my life there aren't a whole lot of Companies out there that are what they used to be! Mord P.S What the hell is Hasbro doing making wargames anyway! that's Milton Bradley's job!
  4. The pic looks cool but I wouldn't wanna play that way. to answer Karch's question. Yeah It is weird to see color photos of WWII, though I am more used to them in the Pacific Theatre than from the WF or EF. Mord
  5. I LOVE the fact that vehicles in this game continue momentum when knockedout. It is such a tiny little thing but adds a ton to the realism. I had a Sherman knocked out by a Panzerfaust as it was turning. The flaming sherman after being nailed, continued it's turn for a few seconds then stopped. I also had one knocked out on a hill and it slid a few feet..side ways before comming to a halt. It wasn't rolling, no treads were moving, and as I said it was side ways! I don't know if that was meant to happen or not but it was very cool! Anyway you guys continue inspiring me with your excellent stories. It seems like it is going to be forever before I get this game...ahh maybe one day. Mord
  6. That's cool. But what I want to do is use texture from here a texture from there and build my own moded mod. LOL! I really like Gunslinger's Pine trees so I'll put them in a zip along with so and sos regular trees and someone elses grass and so on. I will be able to convert that to CMM file?
  7. A side question to this. Does the Sgt have any effect on the men in his squad as far as morale and keeping them from breaking goes? An in game unseen factor that is handled by the programming? Or is he as unstable as say a corporal when the proverbial **** hits the fan? Or is all this just handled under the Squads experience rating? LOL! Man there surely is alot of depth to this game! It has always seemed to me that the sgt/s in a squad or in platoons are the big brother figures to their men, where as the CO, if a good one, is the father figure. 8. That's funny you brought that up I was thinking about that yesterday. I was wondering what it'd look like. And I kept imagining a voice over while I was playing, like one of those dudes that used to narrate the film clips of the war during the saterday matinees in the 40's. "The Jerries thought they had our boys in a vice. But UncleSam and Army know how are more than a match for the Third Reich! Take that Hitler!" Bombadom dadom dadom dom dom Mord [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 10-25-2000).]
  9. Ok say I throw together a zip with all my favorite mods in it. Will I be able to convert that zip file to a CMM file?
  10. But my argument is that wouldn't line of site, accuracy, and chance of being hit change depending on what position you are firing from? Wouldn't this add to the tactics involved in infantry use while playing? When a man is pinned in game terms, he is lying flat, hiding from enemy fire, trying to make himself as small a target as possible right? So if he were lying flat while firing he would be harder to hit, but have a greater accuracy because of his position, but it would effect his LOS, unless he was positioned high, say on a hill. Alot of sharp shooters take this position in contests because it increases stability while firing. On the other hand a man firing from a kneeling position, he might be less accurate, also a bigger target, but have a better LOS because of his height. If it is all modeled into the game as Splinty and Gustav have suggested that is fine, I can live with that. I was just pondering what tactical function this could produce in future games. Thanks guys. Mord [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 10-25-2000).]
  11. I guess what I am getting at is if that officer was killed the other unit that is represented graphically would remain,(threeman twoman squad look) his staff members if you will, but the power of command would die with him. Or maybe graphically the officer could be represented with two riflemen attached, like the three man squad look, except you'd have one pistol waving soldier. But as stated when he buys it so does the command line. I hope I am not confusing anyone..I am having a hard time trying to write this clearly. I don't want to come off like an idiot. I wasn't sure this was even a viable topic for discussion but seeing that you all have jumped into the fray I am happy that I brought it up. Mord. P.S Point well taken Croda. I could go either way on this subject. Thanks for the input. [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 10-25-2000).]
  12. Happy Birthday Matt! Congrats on surviving another year and for having such a great website. Cheers! Hey the Pabst and hookers are on me fellas... (hope my woman doesn't read that).... Mord.
  13. So if they are kneeling on screen they are actually firing from flat on their stomachs, elbows bent, in the game equation? I mean as far as how the game calculates this. [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 10-25-2000).]
  14. in gaming terms to make the officers of HQs seperate figures from the three or four men under their immediate command. I mean 1 officer = 1 man on the screen and whatever extra men that were with him represented by the two or three man squad look? would that be possible for CM2? They would still be under any orders given to that officer just seperate graphically. just wondering about this. Can anybody enlighten me?
  15. Very nice work Guys!! where can we get this tank? Hi res Version of course! [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 10-25-2000).]
  16. Hell yes my friend all that and more! Maybe some civilian sympathizers who feel compelled to strap on grenade vests and hug the nearest Commanding Officer. Play hell on morale I'd expect. Definately on the units fighting ability. [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 10-25-2000).]
  17. I'd just like to make a few statements on where I stand on what. I don't expect any responses just wanted to be able to throw my views out. It seems I have missed some whoppers around here. 1. Mods: The graphics and sound mods are great, that's all I need. The game takes care of itself. Why screw with it? As long as I can modify my graphics and sound I am happy. 2. RTS vs Turn Based: Moot point. The game has both! where is the argument? You have the best of both worlds wrapped into a great little package that works perfectly. 3. What the next 500 CMs should be: I'm pretty sure I'll dig whatever they are so I am cool with whatever comes next. 4. Blood: I wish it were but it ain't. Damn! But just on the dead that's all... 5. How much effectiveness an AP round has when fired at a 30 degree angle, into a southerly breeze, at high noon, during a hail storm, against a Tiger that is traveling due north at 10mph with a nicked tread, whose driver's interests include; nude goose stepping, decorating in pastel camos, and playing hide the weinershnitzel with NaziYouth members while reciting Mein Kampf: Say huh? 6. What I hope is never changed: The WEGO system of turns. I'd love to always have a map editor, and of course the 3D perspective.I left out realism on purpose, refer to #5. I fear not for this factor! 7. What I'd like to see: If it were possible to keep the BMPS from being shared so that graphics could be a little more customized. Maybe a few extra Bmps sets for major/popular vehicles so you could have a few different cammo/weathered mods mixed together. like maybe a camoed Panther and one that is all weathered looking sharing the same battlefield. Instead of two Panthers painted exactly alike or in the same condition. A little variety for the same vehicle. well you get the drift. 8. What's great about this BB: This game company's willingness to interact with it's customers. And the wealth of knowledge I have gleaned from reading the various posts of the members. Some very smart MF's running around here. A wise man who keeps his mouth shut long enough to listen will learn alot. Also the willingness of said members to share and help with problems. And one last one, the loyalty to this game, it's amazing. Mord [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 10-25-2000).]
  18. I was gonna jump into this discussion but then I figured by the time someone read all the way to my post their eyes would be bleeding....so if anybody makes it this far...the Visine is in the medicine cabinet, right behind the Preperation H. Mord
  19. Yes SJ...that is alot like what I was aiming for. At that scale things would be very personal and I think there'd be plenty of grit in your teeth by the end of a scenario. you would definately feel the sting when SGT Jones gets nailed by an RPG or steps on a Bouncing Bettie. I am no Grognard to where I could wrap off a list of armor stats on various Panthers and what not, but the fact that CM incorporates such things and so much more into it's engine is what makes the game so unique and cool. and I truly appreciate the fact that is modeled in the game. And for this fictional Nam game that we have been discussing to work all those kind of realistic values would have to be incorporated as well or it'd be no good what so ever. I am also no programer.... Well like I said at the beginning of this topic a guy can dream can't he? Mord
  20. Tom I am getting the same response as last time "File requested does not exist".
  21. Wow man that looks great! Good work. Make things ten times easier!
