  1. Thanks for the response fellas. It does seem kinda unrealistic. Maybe if I am close up on some enemy infantry I could understand but not some dudes hunkard down in a bunker a few hundred meters away. Mord
  2. Though I doubt that BTS will ever tackle this particular war,(and I am happy either way because I know I'll enjoy any of the CM games. How could I not?)I think there would be alot of enjoyment had by using the elements introduced in Combat Mission in a Nam based game. ie:the turn based system that plays out simultaneously and the awsome mapping. (I would say the map editor is worth 45 bucks by itsself and I don't even have the full version of the game)And maybe that is where the comparison to the original CM game engine should end. I don't truly think that the battles would be as boring as alot of people have stated because there are hundreds of situations that can be portrayed in Nam as there are in any war. Every second of WWII wasn't an in your face thrillfest, there are down times in any conflict. But with the magic of our computers and the brilliant scenario designers in hand we are placed right at the beginning of an engagement. We don't march for days on screen or sit around a base smoking cigarettes and writing letters home. If no one thinks a pitched fire fight for a particular village is as exciting as an armored battle in the Ardennes that is fine, that is their opinion. But with the right game elements implemented I think being stuck in a rice patty by VC crossfire from said village and the jungle line could be very hair raising. Watching your buddies scream for a medic as you frantically try to call in fire support on the enemies position gets my juices flowing. And I would say also that Vietnam offers a good deal of tactics in a battle situation. Maybe not on the scale that WWII has but on a scale that is exciting enough to interest me and others. I really don't think that it would be walk around the jungle all day and shoot once as I have read all over this BB. But even if there were a few scenarios like that I think that they'd be pretty damn tense. I used to play Seal Team way back and I found the tiny little fire fights in that to be heart stopping at times! I understand where alot of the WWII fans are comming from as far as the grand sweep of war goes. Granduer is probably, if not definately, not found in Vietnam, but the very things that make it unique and different are the merits by which I find it so compelling. Tons of different Boobie Traps, Choppers, Naplam Strikes, Tunnel Systems, Mercenaries and Special Forces, Jungles, Civilians that you can't tell apart from the enemy...I could go on and on. I ie: myself, find these things interesting from a military and gaming stand point. well I guess I have rambled on long enough. Thanks everybody for posting on this subject and please don't stop it's getting interesting. 3. Last night I was playing Plomville in the Demo version. The AI germans had set up three bunkers on the far left of the screen. After the game started heating up and the bunkers were located and being fired on by my troops I noticed something odd. when I'd target a bunker the usual info popped up as to what it was and such. this I can understand because it was obvious by their firing on me. My question is though I knew what weapons they were using how is it I also knew the experience level of the soldiers inside. I never got closer than 90meters or so. Is it the same in the full version? I thought that I saw this discussion once before so please bare with me for bringing it up again. Mord.
  4. Oh and if you want to check to make sure it is recorded with the right Attributes and Format, after saving your wav file just right click on it and go to properties and look under details it will give you all the pertinent information. [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 10-24-2000).]
  5. Open File in Sound recorder, go to properties at the bottom. In properties hit convert now. that will give you all the choices of how you can record the wav Ex:Formats and attributes: You want PCM as format I believe, and as Matt said 44,100Hz 16bit mono for the attribute. Good luck! [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 10-24-2000).]
  6. I appreciate all your responses to this post I am thoroughly enjoying your war stories. I don't currently have the full version and I'm not quite sure when I'll be able to purchase it. I just moved to FLA and money is tight. So I have been filling the void with swapping what mods I can in the Demo, playing the Demo OVER AND OVER AND OVER and reading all the great topics on this BB. So thanks again fellas! And please keep the kills commin'! I am diggin' the hell outta them. Mord
  7. Nice trees kump! Nice screenshot! My favorite part of Gunslinger's Mod were the pine trees also. He toned them down just right and they look very real. Anyway goodwork!
  8. Sounds cool to me. Gonna be alot of dead Rushians in CM2. That is of course if people practice the wave attacks. Can anyone say cannon fodderski? Personally on a smaller scope I'd like it to where none of the Bmps were shared, that is if they don't have to be. I am not very knowledgable about programming. But the little things like shared helmets and the like would be nice to not have to worry about.
  9. It's easy guys. Open the file from the Sound Recorder that comes with windows and decrease the volume to where you like it and save. The fire wav is 00000300. I don't know if there are more because I only have the demo but I'd imagine that is it. Probably plays in a loop. I do not know the number for the wind sorry. 10. Thanks Pillar, but my girlfriend wouldn't agree with you.
  11. Very cool stories guys. I had two squads of US Infantry holding back three german rifle squads who were trying to get over this hill to push back the allieds who were being routed. Well for three or four turns they were pinning my guys so finally I said enough and rushed them. They were under a copse of trees where my guys hit them like a train. There were shots fired, grenades thrown and that unmistakable sound of hand to hand combat. In a matter of about ten seconds my little german buddies wiped out all of them except one who had headed out. About a second before the turn ends he comes out the other side of the trees haulin' butt, and I hear a gunshot, see a tracer, he grunts and hits the grass dead as all hell. I watched this little scene three or four times before I caught this and I was just blown away. No pun intended. Part of the beauty of this game is how even a tiny little exchange such as what I just described becomes a vignette of battle. Even though there was much more fighting going on, that little scene sticks in my mind as the highlight. And I suppose there are probably alot more that I overlooked. Great game! 12. Nah no need to do that! I have a fine sense of humor. I just have seen how anti anything that isn't WWII is around here and I was hoping for a real discussion about a Vietnam game. I didn't take it personal. I was just getting excited that someone responded and then I realized it was a jest. I am fully aware though that a Nam game would be outside the scope of what CM is now. But I'd truly love to see it done with atleast the same mapping and turnbased realtime 60 second feature. [This message has been edited by Mord (edited 10-25-2000).]
  13. Bouncin' Bettys strung across jungle trails, some trip flares and a few claymores...you smell that? it smells like Victory!
  14. Do they do overnight or nextday packages if you request and pay for it? I sent an email asking if they do overnight deliveries 4 days ago and haven't received an answer yet.
  15. Tell me about the coolest deaths you've seen in the game. This subject has probably come up before but I'd love to hear your stories. I don't have the full game yet and talking about it with you guys helps to keep me from flipping out. I can only describe the awsome fights I've witnessed in the demo to my glazed eyed girlfriend so many times you know?
  16. Look I know it will probably never be made but can't a guy dream? Tell me what you'd like to see in a Nam game.
  17. And to answer Tom's Question I think Matt's explosions are the best that I have seen so far. There is an upgraded explosion in the Gold demo but it is not as good as Matt's. He may have done both I don't know, but the file he has for download on his site is the better of the two. I'd be interested in seeing yours Tiger if it's not a bother. Believe it or not my favorite part of Gunslingers Mod has got to be the pine trees. They are very crisp all washed down. very real looking. I've been making a zip of all my favorite mods and putting alittle of this and a little of that, so far testing it it looks pretty cool. Later fellas!
  18. 1700 to 1729 are the explosion, blackish smoke and fire BMPS.
  19. Thanks a bunch Tom! I appreciate your help in getting these files. One question I'd like to pose though. Did anybody notice that the smoke looked like death's heads or skulls if you would?
  20. OK Guy's Thanks a million I got're figured out! Man. So easy yet...duuuuh. LOL. Mord
