  1. Hey Mord, Nice to see you back on the forum. If I have to make another marsh, can I seek your endless wisdom again? Thanks. I hope for both our sakes the marsh stays at rest for a while. I think I almost drove you nuts with that one! Or was it the rough? LOL. Well I will say you sure have come a long way in a short time. You did a hell of a job on those trees, and the Fall Scattered Tree Bases you did are the best ever modded in my opinion. It seems the old Subdude Versus Bright argument has begun to rear again. Maybe you should start shooting for both crowds when you do your next mod. Cover all your bases! Gonna be hard with the fifteen million different sets of Grasses out there now! That's one of the many things so great about this game, there are almost endless choices for it's look. Gotta love it. I do have one critique for you...for old time sake. On the trees you should whip up some undergrowth with them. This has been a trend since DD's trees and it really helps to fill out the bareness of the forest floor. It makes it look more filled in I guess you'd say. Either way they are some damned nice trees. BTW what the hell kinda machine are you running? Your the only guy in town who makes his mods at four times the resolution rate of the original Bmps! Good Job Ed...as always. Mord. [ February 27, 2002, 06:48 AM: Message edited by: Mord ]
  2. Ok just load up your CM CD find BMPs 30000, 30001, and 30002 in the BMP folder on it. Drag them to your BMP folder in Your CMBO folder on the hard drive and viola all is right with the world. And you are correct there is a weird glitch with the text in the Gunmetal Mod, that is what caused it. Mord.
  3. This I'd say we can't stress enough; good things come to those who wait. Waiting IS the hardest part fellas but it's also very sweet to roll all those potential battles around in the old imagination waiting for that day that we finally get to play them. Everyday that the game is pushed back is another day that all those great features and models can be tweaked and properly handled. Seriously, more companies should release products when they are satisfied that what they have is done, and not because their time table says they should. So anybody bummed about CMBB taking longer than they expected just look at the silver lining; Every single day that we wait is another day that the crew spends researching, and coding and texturing and fiddling with all the great things that we'll get to experience. And when the game finally ships and it's in our hands and the glories of the Russian Front are before us on the computer screen, all that waiting and nail biting anticipation will be forgotten and one day down the line replaced by nostalgia.
  4. I am psyched about the maps being set up by regions and the weather conditions effecting the soldiers. That's a nifty little piece of realism. Oh! and firing arcs and moving to contact. I have only recently, in the last year and a half, been sucked into a deep interest in WWII, and the whole Russian Front thing has really got me juiced. I have learned quite alot about the Euro Theater, though only a drop in the vast sea of the topic that it is, and look forward to learning about The Great Patriotic War through this board and CMBB, and personal reading. There is soooo much to learn and it's an utterly fascinating topic. I can't belive it took this long into my life (33) for me to take the plunge. But anyway it's gonna be great. Oh and one more thing I am excited about graveyards being included, that will add some nice atmosphere to any village/city fights.
  5. Tom, it is a true masterpiece and will add an absolute ton to the atmosphere of the Ardennes scenarios. Excellent work! You deserve as much praise as this board can bestow upon you...and more. Tonight we are all a bunch of kids again. With our toy soldiers in hand it's off to our brand new virtual sandbox. Thank You very much for giving us this to play with. Mord.
  6. Yes he gets sent to a gulag because he was captured by the germans and escaped. The commisars frowned upon such things. I read some of the Gulag Archipelago By Alexander Soltzenitian(SP?, and almost any Soviet Soldier who was captured by the germans ended up doing time in a gulag. Stalin's point of view was basically, if you survived and your comrades didn't then you must be a collaborator, or traitor. I highly recommend this book. You'll get a very indepth account of the suffering alot of the USSRs soldiers endured for surviving as POWs. As well as the populace after the war. There is some truly jaw dropping stories in that book. It has a good deal of WWII info to boot. [ February 19, 2002, 10:12 PM: Message edited by: Mord ]
  7. Damn someone beat me to it then! It seems that this forum has definately left no topic undiscussed. I never would have thought someone would have already brought this up. Blood, Horses, Mg's running, bicycles etc. but not Al Stewart. Well I am glad to hear you dig the song. If your interested in any of his other historical songs email me and I'll write up a list for you.
  8. Commisar did you know this song before hand? I've been a big fan of Al's for many years now and was lucky enough to have met him at a small venue in Maryland. This song just blows me away everytime I listen to it. The lyrics are cool as is, but you just get a perfect picture of the story with the music. The ending gives me chills. Anybody reading this download the song It'll get you pysched even more for CMBB. Or better yet go out and get his best of which has a good number of historical songs.
  9. Some of you may have heard of Al Stewart of Year of The Cat fame and his OTHER song Time Passages, and well some of you younger fellas may never have heard of him period, but what 'd like to turn you onto is a song of his called Roads To Moscow. It's about one Soviet soldiers experiences throughout the war. Al is one of the most intelligent lyricists in music. He shines the brightest when he tackles historical subjects, which range from Lord Grenville's capture by the Spanish, to a nazi fleeing his past in The Running Man, to Nostradamus and his predictions. I think all you Eastern Front enthusiasts will really like this song. Below are the Lyrics seek this song out wherever you buy or download music. The lyrics are cool but with the music as a back drop the song plays out like a mini movie. so when you get it, turn out the lights put on the headphones and take a little trip back in time. Roads To Moscow Al Stewart They crossed over the border an hour before dawn Moving in lines through the day Most of our planes were destroyed on the ground where they lay Waiting for orders we held in the wood Word from the front never came By evening the sound of the gunfire was miles away Ah, softly we move through the shadows, slip away through the trees Crossing their lines in the mists in the fields on our hands and our knees And all that I ever was able to see The fire in the air glowing red Silouetting the smoke on the breeze All summer they drove us back through the Ukraine Smolensk and Viasma soon fell By autumn we stood with our back to the town of Orel Closer and Closer to Moscow they come Riding the wind like a bell General Guderian stands at the crest of the hill Winter brought with her the rains, oceans of mud filled the roads Glueing the tracks of their tanks to the ground while the sky filled with snow And all that I ever was able to see The fire in the air glowing red Silouetting the snow on the breeze In the footsteps of Napoleon the shadow figures stagger through the winter Falling back before the gates of Moscow, standing in the wings like and avenger And far behind their lines the partisans are stirring in the forest Coming unexpectedly upon their outposts, growing like a promise You'll never know, never know, which way to turn, which way to look, you'll never see us As we're stealing through the blackness of the night You'll never know, you'll never hear us And the evening sings in a voice of amber, the dawn is surely coming The morning road leads to Stalingrad, and the sky is softly humming Two broken Tigers on fire in the night Flicker their souls to the wind We wait in the lines for the final appraoch to begin It's been almost four years that I've carried a gun At home it'll almost be spring the flames of the Tigers are lighting the Road to Berlin Ah, quickly we move through the ruins that bow to the ground The old men and children they send out to face us, they can't slow us down And all that I ever was able to see The eyes of the city are opening Now it's the end of a dream I'm coming home, I'm coming home, now you can taste it in the wind the war is over And I listen to the clicking of the train wheels as we roll across the border And now they ask me of the time that I was caught behind the lines and taken prisoner "They only held me for a day, a lucky break" I say they turn and listen closer I'll never know, I'll never know why I was taken from the line with all the others To board a special train and journey deep into the heart of holy Russia And it's cold and damp in the transit camp and the air is still and sullen And the pale sun of October whispers the snow will soon be coming And I wonder when I'll be home again and the morning answers "Never" And the evening sighs and the steely Russian skies go on....Forever. 10. Instead of dedicating an entire game to the early war why not just expand the time frame and cover the ETO in one fell swoop. CMBB is taking the East Front from beginning to end why not do it with Europe? With this whole region thing that is gonna be going on in CMBB why not? A good bit of the research would already be in the bag and everyone would get what they want. Ultimately I'd love to see Combat Mission World War with all of it in one. That would be nice for the third engine. That is if any of us are still kicking by then.
  11. Mods will work with the demo. But of course only with the sounds and terrain/vehicle/infantry types that are in the demo. I know for a fact. That is how I kept from going crazy waiting for the game to arrive. I kept playing with the different mods I could load. POSSIBLE SPOILER Shermans, Stugs, Panther Tank, US 44 and 45 unis, and Herr unis, Grass, Trees, Tree Bases, Marsh, Buildings, Church, Wall, Wheat, Water, Fox Holes and Craters, and maybe a couple of others can all be modded in the demo. 12. I always use to refer to Tiger as the One Man Armor Factory. If the germans had had him on their side in 44 they would never have lost. He cranks out more steel than a Ford production line crew on Meth. Mord
  13. I'd be up for that Gunner! I didn't even really think about all the number crunching the processor would have to do per meter. I wonder if their could be a way to where it would only have to track spots where an item was placed. Really I am just fantasizing out loud. This game has so much potential it's too bad we all can't live another 70 years or so to see where these guys could take this. We are a loooong way from Pong and Computer Ambush.
  14. ...again crickets chirping. Where is the venerable Lord General when you need him?
  15. I have thought of that view also. Just as you said a lock on view. I also thought about a helmet view for the soldiers. LOL! I like to zoom right down next to my men when they are in a heated firefight it gives me a sense of fear and exilhiration, especially when you see some enemies running across your LOS way off in the distance. Something I am hoping for in the rewrite is a little less abstraction with infantry. Alot more animations and positions when they are firing while stopped, instead of everyone kneeling. Maybe some standing, kneeling, lying down whatever. And actual hand to hand fighting would be cool. I'd also like to see crew animations on guns, loading and firing and such. I am much more into the infantry aspects when the fighting starts. I love that close quarters stuff. Don't get me wrong I dig the armor and am very glad it is as detailed as it is but I'd like to see the infantry get the same treatment.
  16. Seeing all the beautiful Churchills that have graced our games in the last few months has got me to hankerin' for a nice new Jenny Makeover for the poor and down right neglected Cromwell. The poor bastard hasn't seen a new coat of paint in quite sometime. Nor the Challenger for that matter. The enitire Sherman family has been done up to perfection, the Halftracks and Scoutcars are awsome, the Greyhounds, the Priests, the Stuart family and TD's are all making the rounds of the local museums, the Universal Carriers are WOW, the Diamler just came into it's own, The Sexton is to die for and even the lowly and forgotten Archer is getting a Much needed fix. So how about it fellas?! Lets get the Cromwell/Challenger into the folds of this Allied AFV renaissance that has been taking place here over the last 8 months or so. Lets do it for the cause!! Lets do it for Victory!! Lets do it for Queen and Country!! ....Or just for some of us lowly Mod Sluts who would appreciate the efforts.
  17. Ok I read all the Faqs that are out and didn't find anything about this. And I couldn't find anything about placing bomb craters on map either. I am hoping. I think these will add a good deal to the fun factor of scenario design. Especially the craters.
  18. I have been mulling over the great idea of these "Doodads" that will be present in CMBB. And I got to thinking about how they might be applied when the engine is rewritten. I am no programer but this is what I was day dreaming about. The average tile now is what something like 20 meters square and I have heard talk that it will try to be changed for the rewrite, but for the sake of argument lets say they stay that way. When we look at the map editor we see all these squares each representing 20 meters, now could they each be broken down, say each square having a little square representing maybe one meter inside it? So we'd have one large square with twenty little ones in each. Now wouldn't it be great if you could place a doodad in any of these squares when making a map. Could this be possible? I realize they are random in CMBB. But could that be a possiblity down the road? The bitmaps for these could be a standard set of sizes and left blank. Say maybe ten or twenty of each. They could be setup as Type Small 1,2,3 Type Medium 1,2,3 and so on. Each being a certain dimension as a Bmp, say small being 32X32. The number would allow us to know what physical representation is represented under it. Say a Type Small #1 is a trough that a modder made or a garbage can, Type Small #3 is something else and so on. Knowing this you'd click on it then it could be placed in any of the small 1 meter squares inside the 20x20 regular square. It's just a thought and could probably be done better than what I am trying to say. But Being able to place small graphical objects about the map would be very interesting when building them. I guess these objects could even be given an abstract numbering system for concealment and protective cover. Anybody have any ideas or comments? Mord. 19. I don't believe that would be possible. The Show is called Combat Missions. But I think it would be an infringement on BTS's copy rights to have a game called Combat Mission. They'd definatley be able to stop a game using that title. Mord [ February 01, 2002, 09:29 PM: Message edited by: Mord ]
  20. Thanks Captain. Anybody else have any info? Anybody..Anybody?
  21. Will we be able to add wrecked vehicles and armor in the scenario designer?
  22. It is dead, and only waiting to be buried for another age. Well I will agree on that. Mord.
  23. Mord's definition of arrogance: Disagreeing with any subject that he feels strongly about. Perfect example. How do you know How I feel about the subject. Did I state how I felt? You always go around assuming what others think? But as soon as people begin the process of peer review out from the darkness and the primordial ooze comes all of the abused sisters who scream in terror as their ideas face heartless attacks and criticisms. When the argument is lost, then they cry about how unfair this board is ande how they are considering never coming back It's not that people disagree it's how it's done. And the argument isn't lost as far as I saw. You must have some really high opinions of your own ideas. And me leaving or staying has no baring on your existence what so ever. I never said it did. Some of us here just get tired of how guys like you hide your arrogant, jerk attitudes behind the guise of "Oh I'm just discussing things". What you self appointed keepers of the rules always tend to forget is how to talk to people half the time. Your so wrapped up in your arrogant attiudes about a GAME, you forget the respect factor. Oh, unless someone says something that isn't nice towards one of you. Than it's a gang bang. The bunghole brigade lines up and pats each other on the back after attacking in mass. Oh that was a good one! You really told him. I am such a master of CM. I am the end all beat all of computer gamers. Blah! Blah! Blah! DO A SEARCH. And maybe you'll see what I mean. Mord
