  1. I'm sure I'm not the only one who likes to play with the volume cranked right up to get maximum immersion. Unfortunately I find I can't do this when it's raining (in-game obviously), at least not for extended periods. The rain sounds extremely monotonous and very loud in relation to the other sounds. It's almost like white noise or radio static. In fact roaring tropical rainstorms are rather exceptional in Western Europe, especially in winter. If anyone could come up with a more palatable sound for rain, I for one would much appreciate it.
  2. Might I respectfully suggest a different background ? It's a bit of a strain on the eye to read right now.
  3. Come on you straggling bums ! I spent half the time abroad during this tourney, we had a guy in our section replaced TWICE (respect to Combined Arms by the way...) and we STILL finished first and nearly on time.
  4. That's me finished ! Whew ! About time too, I think I was about to develop a serious heart condition. Thanks to all the guys I played for being such good sports and to Treeburst for staying on top of everything.
  5. The discovery of unexploded airplane bombs and artillery shells is still a very regular occurrence here. Sometimes somebody even manages to get blown up by one. Recently a whole village in the north of France had to be evacuated because a store of WWI gas shells had started to leak. After nearly 90 years they still haven't been destroyed ! My top find was an airplane bomb on the mudflats in front of the Dutch coast. They were often dropped by damaged bombers limping back to England.
  6. Thanks for the compliment Ciks. You didn't do too bad yourself.
  7. Oh, THAT... The hype continues. I think less fuss was made about the last U2 album . The star and Balkenkreuz snowflakes are a particularly nice touch.
  8. I don't know if it makes any difference, but it shouldn't. Machinegunners are specifically trained to deal with their weapon. They're not going to go moaning to their sergeant unless they want to become a friendly fire statistic.
  9. Area target is definitely the solution. In general, tanks will only fire at targeted squads in buildings until they're suppressed. If you area target the building, they'll keep shooting.
  10. Any chance of telling us what it is ? There's nothing in his news section.
  11. And now for the first serious answer  Yes, I will keep playing CMBO because I like the Western theatre and don't know the first thing about the Russians. I believe the software you describe more or less exists. Looks like the guys playing in the Meta Campaign have a tool that allows them to move their units on the strategic map.
  12. I lost a 20mm PSW234 to a squad of British para's. At least I think so. No big explosions of any kind. Just suddenly a drooping gun and a running crew. And CMBO most definitely does model top hits. I once had an arty round land smack in the back of an HT. Not a pretty picture. And you can lose scores of tanks to strafing by airplanes. 13. Great work on the uniforms. Sadly it sets off those ugly lumps they've got for hands even more. Is there nothing that can be done about that ?
  14. Hey Gordon, I've been a faithful user ever since the first version. I'm currently having some probs : not all the bmp's seem to get replaced when I switch between different mod sets. I get a commonwealth tank with an American turret or a German HT with mono-color sides and camo front and back. I've got screenshots to show you what I mean. What am I doing wrong / should I do ?
  15. Buildings, bridges and German uniforms are already included in the latest version of CMMOS (3.01). A CMMOS pack for winter terrain is apparently on the way, but it has controversially been so for a while...
  16. The weirdest sound is that of a tank bogging down (don't know why there should be a sound for that in the first place). It sounds like a jet engine starting up and then being cut.
  17. You guys are psychic. That was about the only thing I had left on my Mod Wish List.
  18. I think the value of FT's would rise against human opponents though. Concentrated firepower works well against a scattered enemy, which the AI always is because it doesn't keep its platoons together properly. In a human v. human situation you're far less likely to find positions where you have that great a superiority in firepower. With the added burden of having to advance on the attackers, the advantage would swing to the defenders even if they did have less firepower overall. This is where the real value of FT's kicks in : you can create local superiority by flushing out an entire platoon (e.g.) at once.
  19. Reasons why I only play scenarios by e-mail : 1. Time. 2. The possibility of reinforcements. Zero in QB's, bugged in TCP/IP (the AFV cloning phenomenon) 3. Varying force composition, play balance and good maps. Scenarios designed for head to head play are far better than QB's in this regard. The one big drawback is that people tend to quit games when they are losing, but I expect that's no different with TCP/IP.
  20. http://www.sosremembrement.com/bocage.html Says here there were originally some 2 million km of "talus" (not sure if all of that can be described as bocage), of which 65 % has now been destroyed. Judging from the pics on this site (I've seen others much like it), it's safe to say that certainly some of the bocage hedges were a lot more then just tall hedges.
  21. I've received an alternative addy from Combined Arms. Looks like it might work. Me and Mr Johnson are now also finished. Just the last couple of turns with Ciks and the whole hog with Combined Arms to go now.
  22. Treeburst, I've just received an e-mail from Combined Arms asking me what the **** is taking me so long. I've sent my file 6 times now and they've all bounced. Obviously he's not checking the board so could you have a go at mailing him ? Thx
  23. The gist of what you're saying seems to be that it's all in the scenario design. I couldn't agree more. Having said that (and having been there) I have to disappoint you on the bocage issue : those fields are not small with twisty borders. They're huge, and the hedges run straight as an arrow.
  24. My fifth attempt to get the latest turn to Combined Arms has just failed. I zipped the file to no avail. Anyone else having probs ?
