  1. As hobby programmer and hobby soundmodmaker I ask myself how a soundfiles is allocated to a weapon. Directly to the xyz.wav, or is a weapon detailed to a weapon class, and the classes are assigned to the soundfile(s)? ------------------ Keine Gefangenen! Visit my Combat Mission Sound Mods site! 9. An official statement by Kwazy Dog: BTS & Maxis will publish Sim Combat Mission soon!!! . Scipio P.S. Thanx for the answer...to bad that we havn't it in CM1 already. But maybe CM1 scenarios will be compatible with the revised/new CM2 engine. I love hunt Shermans ------------------ Keine Gefangenen! Visit my Combat Mission Sound Mods site! 10. I'm really no expert on 3D graphics, so excuse this stupid questions. In princip, all 3d graphics are based on a grid, covered with a texture file. If I take for example a gun, I can look though the frontplate window and can see the rest of the gun. Same for vehicels. If I open the texture file of the gun, I see that the frontplate window is filled with a pink color. Okay, thats known from gif picture, one color is transparent. Now I make a 'hole' in a buildings texture file with the same pink color. If I now start the game, I have a hole in the building wall, but if I look through it, I can only see the landscape thats 'behind' the wall, not the rest of the building Why? And why isn't the same technique used like for vehicels/guns? Wouldn't it be a way to make ruins? ------------------ Keine Gefangenen! Visit my Combat Mission Sound Mods site! 11. It would bog in when it leaves the road and would break through nearly every bridge - not joking, that's a few of the main problems! I'm still missing the PzIII, and I'm missing Infantery cloae AT-weapons like magnetic charges and AT-Wurfmine. And I better don't start to leaf through my WWII weapons encyclopedia . ------------------ Keine Gefangenen! Visit my Combat Mission Sound Mods site! 12. Yes, casualities and VP...but how exactly? Simply enemy casualties - own casualties, based on the purchase points? Can't be, IMO. What's in assault battles, when the attacker has usualy higher casualties as the defender? ------------------ Keine Gefangenen! Visit my Combat Mission Sound Mods site! 13. IMO, the balance between players control and AI control in the action phase is as good as it can be (except some very small points). Realistic it would be if I only give orders to Company-HQs, which usualy have the only connection to the High Command (me). But then I also must have only the viewpoint of the leading HQ on the map, and all other information can I only receive as messages from the lower HQs, maybe shown on a simple, hand drafted map how it's usualy used by the front commanders. Do we want it so realistic? Bull****! This is a game, I want of course a challenge, but I also want to have FUN!!! ------------------ Keine Gefangenen! Visit my Combat Mission Sound Mods site! 14. I don't like to do it, but sometimes I MUST move them in a bulk, maybe it's not much place, maybe 'cause I must rush them over a road to avoid a big kick in my ass. That are exactly the situations when I'm sitting here, roaring abhorrent things to express my emotions ! ------------------ Keine Gefangenen! Visit my Combat Mission Sound Mods site! 16. It seems impossible for drivers to swerve slower or still standing friendly vehicels!!! It's nearly impossible to move a couple of vehicels at the same time when there's not much place to manoeuver. It usualy ends in a traffic jam, and then god help you if the enemy has LOS. That really sucks!!! ------------------ Keine Gefangenen! Visit my Combat Mission Sound Mods site! Use my uncensored Forum for all discussions that getting to hot for here. 18. Good point, especially : why can a HQ guide the fire for an on-map mortar, but not for the off-map artillery battery? IMO, this would be a perfect job for company and higher HQs. They are high enough in the chain of command, and they have (IMO) good comunication lines to the hinterland. This would give us also more sense to place them on the map. Certainly not so accurate like a spotter, except on TRP.
  19. In spend my military service in a heavy infantery company, using 120mm Mortars, so I guess I have a bit knowledge about this: Why can't I order my artillery spotter to pause fire? An offmap artillery unit is ussually at the same place, and all fire orders are written down in a log. If the order is received to hold fire, it's unusual that the guns are unloaded and brought back into prefire position - they hold position til the next fireorder. So, if they receive the order to fire again at the same place, they can do this with very short delay. But if I stop artillery fire in CM and order it again a round later on the same place, I have to wait again 2-4 minutes. Principly, all executed fireorders would produce a target reference point (for that artillery unit only, of course), cause all earlier fireorders are recorded by the artillery HQ. They only need to adjust the tubes again, while a new fireorder must be calculated and tested (that's why usualy a single shell falls before the barrage starts in the game) Scipio ------------------ Keine Gefangenen! 20. Your argument is political correct. But if we would start this: Shouldn't we include coloured Soldiers? I have no idea how many have fought in western Europe, but surely enough. And how about place a David star on a number of soldiers? What about Red Indians? Shouldn't we place a feather on some soldiers helmets to honor them? Don't get me wrong, I won't make fun of you. For all this you can find reasons, but at last it will all end here: it makes no difference in the gameplay, because it's absolutly unrealistic to think women, men, blacks, white, christian or yewish soldiers would have different abbilitys. So it only will be a graphical feature, which to create costs time and money.
  21. Thanx god that we have computers to calculate such things. [This message has been edited by Scipio (edited 02-01-2001).]
  22. I often wonder that I can blow a house into pieces, but see the rest of the map undamaged. Why don't make a tank a hole into a bocage when he drives through it? Same for walls and hedges - what of course would mean that following units can pass them faster and the LOS would be changed. And why don't artillery fire damage them?
