  1. Good question. I would like some replacement sky mods as well. The ones that come with the game are too heavily pixelated.
  2. A great day for CMBB! First the 1.03 final patch. Now some excellent mods from Gordon. So what's this "CMMOS" you speak of and how do I use it? Keith PS Yep, still around. I've been in lurk mode more than anything the past few months. Been VERY busy getting into some serious web development. Just getting back into CMBB. Glad to see you're still around as well.
  3. If you are using Hotmail and are playing internationally, you definately want to use WinZip or WinRAR on the files before sending them (both you and your opponent). I believe Hotmail has a tendency to corrupt CM PBEM files. Hope this helps. Keith
  4. Thanks! No more "A-Team" explosions everywhere during an arty strike.
  5. Thanks! I'll try them out tonight. I've got a good replay from "Message from Goetz" that has about 8 or so Panthers opening up almost at once. Should be cool. Update: Just tried them out. Very nice. Tanks are much more visible firing now. Work great with artillery as well. You get that initial quick bright flash without the firey Hollywood effect. Makes small caliber arty (81mm and below) much more visible, even when zooming out at level 5. Good job! I liked the textured with a border one the best. Looks more real and works best with the artillery explosions. You might want to post these to the CM Mods Database if Yahoo keeps giving you trouble. 6. I didn't know how tracks were handled in this version. Thanks for the info.
  7. Do those apply to German tanks as well? I'm guessing there is some overlap with shared textures. I guess I'm looking for something generic that will work for all tanks. Thanks and keep up the excellent work. Your Zimmerit King Tiger is a work of art.
  8. MikeyD, Do you have a mod pack like this for tracks? I searched but only came up with one that looked Russian specific and gautrek's dusty tracks. Mainly looking for muddy tracks. Am I missing something? Keith
  9. I tried these new drivers early this evening on a computer at work with XP Pro SP1 and DirectX 9. It too has a crippled Geforce 4 MX420 card and I experienced the same trouble that Rommel and Snarker experienced. I will try Snaker's advice tomorrow to see if it resolves that black screen and other assorted issues. Home machine works fine as ever (Geforce 4 Ti4600) since it's still running Windows ME and has never experienced any of issues that 2000/XP machines are experiencing. I will say these drivers are as good as or better than the 41.09s in terms of performance and image quality. The 43.45s seemed to suffer in both areas on Windows ME. Guess the 43.45s sucked all around for everyone.
  10. Sorry, Juju. Poor attempt at humor on my part. That's a line from the Austin Power's movie "Goldmember" from the character Goldmember, who was from Holland.
  11. "Hey, everybody! I'm from Holland! Isn't zat vierd?"
  12. Application controlled doesn't work in most cases. For CMBO or CMBB, you need to specify the level of AA manually. The higher the number, the better the picture quality should be. However, there is a performance penalty as well. So the higher you go, the better the picture quality but the slower the performance. You should set whatever level gives you the best trade off between graphic quality and game performance. If you machine can handle 4x, go for it. It should probably be OK for CM, especially if you have fairly powerful CPU (like a Pentium III 1Ghz or so). Really 3-D intensive games like first-person shooters and flightsims would suffer the most when using FSAA. For those you might need to back off to a lower level or just forget about it if you find you get a really choppy display (ie, motion is not fluid).
  13. AA = anti-aliasing FSAA = full-screen anti-aliasing Basically, it's a technology that removes the sharp edges of 3-D video graphics to improve image quality. The main noticable benefit is the reduction of "jaggies" (the step-like appearance) on 3-D objects, especially where they curve. It also reduces the "shimmering" effect of some textures as well. For example, trees and other terrain graphics in CM when moving about the map. [ April 17, 2003, 01:36 PM: Message edited by: sitzkrieg ]
  14. Yeah, Battlefield Command (formerly known as WWII RTS) is a Codemasters/1C Maddox project. Projected release isn't until mid to late 2004. And if it's anything like Forgotten Battles, add about 6 more months to that at least. That would be at about the same time that the new CMX2 engine would be released. I think the two are totally different games in terms of realism, type (WEGO vs. RTS) and scale (pretty sure Battlefied Command has a limit of like 16 units or somefink). So I don't think it's really a competitive product. In the end, don't worry so much. Enjoy CM in all it's flavors and be patient because good things are coming.
  15. Look at what you did, Jim! You made him double post again! I bow to the superior intelligence of PlattCmdr! (aka He Who Cannot Even Master a Web Browser) [For those that missed it, he edited his above post to hide his double-post mistake] [ April 08, 2003, 12:15 PM: Message edited by: sitzkrieg ]
  16. Good point, tracer. I don't think the RAM would be an issue, I think motherboard (chipset, etc.), BIOS and processor (AMD or Intel) could all be possible hardware devices that could make the AI behave differently, depending on the hardware. Look at the Dell "timer" issue when trying to fast forward a turn. I believe it has something to do with the motherboard or CPU in that instance but only with certain Dell computers. It's a S.W.A.G. but you might be on to something there.
  17. Andrew, Outstanding work as usual. One problem with the winter mod. One file (53374) has a ".psd" file extension and is unviewable. Keith
  18. Hey newbies, beware the trolls. Especially the ones who have been banned multiple times and who have nothing better to do with their lives. [ April 04, 2003, 06:14 PM: Message edited by: sitzkrieg ]
  19. I found this topic over at the SimHQ IL-2 forum. It appears CM isn't the only game getting burned by crappy Nvidia drivers. Terrible FSAA with Newer Detonators (43.45 specifically) While not the exact same issue, I thought it might add some perspective.
  20. This must be just a Windows 2000/Windows XP issue. I installed the latest 43.45 drivers last Friday on my Windows Me machine at home. 4xS FSAA, 8x filtering with texturing sharpening and I was getting 30-50 FPS (depending on trees, doo-dads, etc.). These were similar results that I had with the 41.09 drivers as well, with the 43.45 drivers being slightly faster by about 3-5 FPS in similar situations. My specs: Windows ME Leadtek Geforce4 Ti4600 w/ 128MB Athlon XP 1800+ (OC'ed to XP 2000+) 512MB DDR SDRAM BTW, it looks beautiful with virtually no "shimmer" on the textures with all the FSAA goodies on. MUCH better looking compared to the 30.82 drivers. So those who are having no problems like me (no framerate issues, missing text, etc.), are you also Windows 98/Windows ME?
  21. Well, I don't know anything new about the CDV copies in stores but I'm glad to see some others who don't think so highly of our totalitarian Attorney General.
  22. WOW! Now that's support! As someone who purchased and received the first edition strategy guide, this is fantastic news. I was a bit disappointed with the number of errors (made it hard to read at times) but still found it to be a good guide overall. Looking forward to the second edition. A now very loyal supporter of BFC for life, Keith
  23. **** happens? Either that or it's a big conspiracy involving the Freemasons and the CIA.
  24. You also need to consider the extra volume of mail and packages put on the USPS due to Christmas. Expect a day or two extra wait I would guess. I also ordered Monday but I'm not expecting it until tomorrow or Saturday at the earliest. Would be nice to have to read over the weekend. Keith
