  1. A car dealership close to where I live with the most funny and appropriate name for a car dealer ever... Dick Witham
  2. Vergeltungswaffe proves my point. US is officially out of new ideas. Great reference, BTW.
  3. Since TV/Hollywood has run out of ideas and are remaking so much from the 70's and 80's, that's a behind-the-scenes shot from the lot of "CHiPs: Baghdad". Or Since the US military has run out of ideas, they are bringing back motorcycle troops. This is bad news for BFC as people will clamor for their inclusion in CM:SF, much like they did for horses in CMx1.
  4. I've seen thread mention QB maps/map packs but can't find them in the Repository. Anyone know where I can find them? I've browsed the Maps section but don't see much.
  5. I saw mention in another thread of an artillery mod you did back in April. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?p=1131567#post1131567 I went to the FileFront link but the file is no longer there. Could you post it again to either FileFront, here or at GreenAsJade's site? Your sounds mods, especially the distant versions, are the best and really add immersion to CMSF. Thanks in advance. Keith
  6. Having both read the book and watched the series, the series diverges from the book in many instances. The book itself is embellished by the author, your choice as to how much. Better book is "One Bullet Away" by Nate Fick (Bravo Company, 2nd Platoon commander depicted in "Generation Kill"). Probably much more accurate account, especially of his problems with the Company commander ("Encino Man") and "Kasey Kasem". It wasn't nearly as dramatic as it was protrayed in the series, which was even more dramatic than the book. I think Fick has been critical of "Generation Kill", calling parts of it BS. Two of the Marines in the interview with Evan Wright were "technical advisors" to the show, Reyes and Kucher. Reyes comes off as a complete douchebag. Not sure about Kucher. Anyway, my 2 cents.
  7. Not just the latest Nvidia drivers. I've tried all kinds of combinations from 180 on and still see about the same average FPS. I don't have a top spec machine but close to yours and the framerates fluctuate wildly between 15-20 FPS to 60 FPS. One thing that seems odd is I get better framerates with FSAA set. Strange. Hoping for an Nvidia fix (not likely) or Battlefront finds some kind of inefficiency in their code. Crossing my fingers for 1.21.
  8. Quick test in a night battle shows that the latest Nvidia drivers (191.07) still have the all buildings flash bug. Time to rollback.
  9. George, Same here. Stupid job! Getting in the way of CM! Maybe tomorrow or this weekend I can send a save game.
  10. MikeyD, I thought I was getting slaughtered on the second floor as well. I'll check this again when I can. I know there is a LOS problem someone posted on the CMSF general forum a couple of weeks ago where they were able to spot and shoot through a building to the second floor.
  11. George, Will do when I get the chance. CMSF settings: Textures=Best Model=Balanced Trees=On Shadows=On AA/AS=On Nvidia settings: AA=4x AS=8x (maybe 16x) Let me know if there are other settings you need. Also, could you provide both your CMSF and card settings so I can do a comparison. Strange thing is, AA or AS settings don't seem to impact FPS that much. 16x was actually faster at times than 4x or even with AA turned off completely (both in CMSF and on the card). MikeyD, Only using FRAPS because I noticed some stutter/chug and wanted to see how bad it was. I rarely use it except to benchmark games and adjust settings until I can get 24 FPS or higher.
  12. I know, I know. When it's ready. Reason I ask is because of one very nasty bug I ran into last night. The upper-level/balcony "negative cover" bug. Played a battle where my units were in ambush position at the start in upper-levels or balconys. No time to redeploy before enemy contact. Once the shooting started, every man in 3 of my squads was down in less than 30 seconds. Nasty bug that is detracting from the game a bit as it is putting artificial limits on the player (avoid upper-levels and balconys). Any information is appreciated.
  13. Nvidia 9800GT (512MB) w/ 182.5 drivers (minor rev might be off) Core2 Duo E7200 2.53Ghz 2GB DDR2 1066 RAM WinXP Pro SP3 Old to CM, new to CMSF. Really getting into it now with 1.20. I've searched for and found about every thread related to this but still don't have a resolution that gives decent framerates, even in small battles. With the specs I've listed above, I would expect to see something higher than the typical 18-22 FPS I'm averaging. Maybe I'm expecting too much from my machine. Not 100% certain but I've noticed that either craters, trenches or certain building types really seem to drag down the FPS but only when rendered close up. I'm talking a drop from 45-60 FPS to 20 or less FPS, even with a small map/battle. I know that ATI and Nvidia seem to be screwing the pooch on their drivers lately but there seems to be an inefficiency in the code somewhere since the lower FPS only occurs when certain objects are present. Any feedback is appreciated.
  14. Very sorry to hear this. I always waited in anticipation of ANY mod Gordon released. Get well and much success in all that you do. A former member of the CMMOS cabal
  15. WOW! I'd like to see the origins of this "fairy" tale. I'm guessing that Wikipedia strikes again.
  16. Fred, I understand what you're saying. It's part of the RPG aspect of the game. And I wouldn't want the game to be like that. It's not so much that it happened but that it's been happening consistently with my pilots over the past couple of weeks. Get one that starts to get pretty good (100+ kills) and he gets killed. Once is disappointing. 4 or 5 times pretty much broke my enthusism for the game. Then you have to start over building up the skills...AGAIN. Getting tedious. Game starts to feel more like work than fun. BTW, Rex was only 12 kills away from being the all-time US kill leader. So that just adds to the bummer factor.
  17. Thanks. That's the end of me playing DiF. Someone else already said it on DiF chat recently (think it was "the_jedi") and I agree with that statement now. It's just too frustrating to loose a pilot you've put hours of work into to dumb luck. In my case, Rex lost ED in a previous mission. Doing a "simple" dogfight to try and regain ED, the enemy wingman played an IMS:Des, then Barrel Roll, then drew another card and got an Ace Pilot. Guess what card I didn't have. Have fun with the expansion.
  18. I've got something that might be a one month all-time record too. 9 pilots killed, 6 with at least 20 kills. BEAT THAT!
  19. Hmmm...Can't remember if that was what I saw but it makes sense now. I just saw that Scissors card played to disadvantage me from Neutral and thought of this thread. Very rare occurance. At least I've only seen it once so far. I'll try to remember this the next time I see it. Thanks for the explanation. Hope I didn't waste too much of your time chasing ghosts.
  20. Sorry, bartbert. Forgot to send that log last night. Too busy shooting down planes. I'll send it later today.
  21. Had this happen to me last night. Think I was going up against F4Fs. About 3 turns in, started the turn neutral and the computer played a Scissors card to get me disadvantaged. First time I've noticed it. Bartbert, I can send the log if you want it. Should be easy enough to find since I only had time for two missions last night.
  22. I was talking with a co-worker today about DiF. He tried the beta demo months ago (like me) but hasn't pulled the trigger on buying it yet. I don't think it will take much to push him over the edge. Anyway, we started taling about some old boardgames that were like DiF. He mentioned one that was WWI specific. That started a discussion of a WWI version or expansion for DiF. Possible? Interest? Already discussed?
  23. Sixxkiller, Yep, that's what I was suggesting. An inherent attribute of the plane, not the pilot. So a P-47 would have turbo and "Fast Diving" (or "Aerodynamic Brick" or somefink) as it's special abilities. Another possibility would be to make it like "Use Agility" where it would only be enabled if you were being tailed. So you could dive away and the enemy couldn't follow. But that might be too powerful.
  24. Another thing I would like to see added (if possible): - A "Fast Diving" Special for planes that were known to gain speed quicker than normal in a dive, like the P-47 (maybe the Corsair, others?). This Special would give these planes an extra +2 cards, instead of +1, when they dive to a lower altitude.
  25. Somebody already listed it but I also want to be able to pick the nationality of my opponents. Fun to switch up once in awhile but it's frustrating when the computer gets "stuck" picking the same nation and planes over and over again. Right now it's stuck on Japan when I use my Brit pilots when I REALLY want to knock down some Heinkels. Planes I would like to see added: - B-17G, B-24 and B-26. Wouldn't think these would be hard too add because they would be pretty close to an existing plane's stats (B-17F or B-25). - Me-262. - Italian planes for a Med/North African expansion and campaigns. Really looking forward to the Russian/Polish expansion.
