Hi not sure if you have seen the thread lately and could I suggest an e-mail is sent to all players a couple of days before the end of round one.
Along the lines of
Dear Player you might not be aware of the scoring system being used which means that if the scenario has not been completed it is in both players interest to take the Ceasefire Option before the end of the round at 08:00 UTC 25-10-2023.
BOTH Players need to have taken the Cease Fire option and turns processed for this to take effect and for Both players to score maxium points.
Of course if the files can be processed as an assumed Cease fire by the system then no need, but I bet that has not been coded so it is at least fair to warn everyone via the e-mail reminder.
Just my 2p...
Also please can we update any new Tourney invites text to clearly explain how scoring works if the scenario is not completed by the end of the round?
-
Thanks Andrew,
I have found a way within in Slitherine system to e-mail the oppo I hope he picks up and sees my e-mail.
We are averaging a turn a day and have I think 16 left to do plus or minus so it seems like we will have to do a CF...
This really does need to be clearly stated in the Tourney text if it is not there?

based on 3-1 outcomes
Thanks for the response, not sure what 3-1 outcomes mean?
So what you think is that it's better to CF to get more points.
As I have no idea who my oppo is and I can't get the in game chat working not sure if my oppo knows that.
Also it's not mentioned in the tournament text, if what you are saying is the best way to resolve not completing the games, which it really should be IMO.
-
Hmmm what happens if players don't do a ceasefire and the round ends with turns left to play?
-
From my memory marking mines doesn't disarm them so if you move troops into marked minefield they can still die...
Is the in game chat working and if so what key is it? I can't make it out on text on my computer as too small... And old age...

I think he would still be able to see the position. My fault for not moving it.
Still, a total cheeseball move and he will regret it.
You only had two choices on where to put the AT gun so it was always going to be open to a planned hit.
The situation would have been avoided if the Germans had better choice on deployment zones.
But as it's mirrored both sides are affected.
As for delaying turns in game X so you learn for game Y the only advantage is you learn the map, and see what works.
Not really an issue as this scenario has been available for years so you can load it up at will to play test the best approach.
What should have happened was that new unreleased scenarios created with decent set up zones.
This however would require effort that was obviously not available.
So it is what it is.
A long time ago I ran one of the ROW tournaments and we were able to get scenario designers to create specific ones for the tournament. Easier then with the old scenario design tools before CM2 upped the skill levels required.

Shapps has now backed out of both of these ideas on the quiet.
It's Conservative Party annual conference time in the UK, so this is now looking a lot like "announce loudly, gather the plaudits, slink off quietly" to try and boost his standing within his party.
Just seen him say on BBC news this morning that he never said that and that he has not flip flopped. Apparently journalist misunderstood him which is possible.

But the dance next month will be defined by the realization among the (too-conservative-for-me but) generally sane majority of Republicans in the House that to retain some semblance of order in the House they have to keep McCarthy and to keep McCarthy they need Democratic votes to stifle their own bomb throwers. There's already talk on the Hill among Republicans to cooperate with Democrats to change the rule so that motions to vacate will be nullified. With a half decent bounce or two, things are about to get a lot less crazy in the House.
Hmmmm this didn't age too well. I will await my morning coffee to see where the clown show goes next. (BTW the UK clown show is also in full swing...)
Bill give me some hope that the numpties have a plan...

Yep a bit of thought and a few tweaks on where and how the Germans can set up would be good. Also if anyone did a pre-planned hit on the US set up zone that would be a bit bad and we will never know if that is how they scored the points for a victory - very cheesey and could have been prevented with a bit more thought...
Meanwhile I am travelling and have an inherited laptop with an AMD and Integral Intel card and I managed a few turns but the loading has broken.
I have tried to force the AMD video to be used but it fails.
The 100% load works, I get to the password screen and it then just churns away and does not load. I waited 20+ minutes yesterday and just gave up.
So I am hoping when I get back I can use my desktop to finish the game in the allotted time.
@BFCElvisIn FOG2 Tourneys you are on a chess clock and if the game is not completed you get penalised if you don't do turns fast enough. Is that happening in this tourney?
-
Am I being dumb is there a way to see how long each scenario lasts? I have in my mind 30 minutes but not sure where that came from?
-
Thanks Suzuya... I had limited time last night and saved the tourney turn and could not find it today...
A tad annoying as in FOG2 you can save a turn in progress and get back to it.
Also a tad annoying is thatI have to re-enter password for server every time - FOG2 saves it so no typing again and again...
1st World problems....
But good to know it's not me being dumb...
-
Sorry typeď this quickly last night, I should have made it clear it was for a tourney game.
-
Is this possible? It looks like I have to do the turn in one go and submit, but maybe I am getting it wrong?

Right a bit more on topic and I was lucky enough to see Sir Anthony Beaver being interviewed by James Holland at "We Have Ways Fest" this weekend and he was being asked about the research into his Stalingrad book.
An excellent interview and might be on line at some stage. Some points that caught my attention that tie into the current war.
He mentioned that during his research at the Russian archives that he stumbled upon all the reports back to Stalin and that Stalin had demanded to know the whole truth warts and all... This was a gold mine for the book and gave a pretty good view of the reality of the situation to Stalin.
I wonder if x years’ time will we find that Putler is being told the truth warts and all?
Did it really help inform Stalin’s choices? We think Putler does not know the truth and he might do things differently but maybe now he knows the truth but he can’t change his choices and as noted is doubling down in the hope things will change…
Sir Anthony also mentioned how poor the food was at the canteen of the research place – his Russian researcher used to say he was too spoiled. But what he did get a laugh from is that he used to get excellent hot dogs from a certain person who fell out of the sky a while ago… That was a name we were not expecting to pop up in a Stalingrad talk…
Sir Anthony also made a big point about the Soviet brutality and how this really has not changed from WW2 to modern times. He talked about the feral starving Russian kids that were tempted by Germans for crusts of bread to go and fill their water canteens at the river. The Russian snipers were ordered to kill the Russian kids….
Quite a few other horrific examples were given and nothing has changed in Russia in regards to brutality…
A couple of tankers Waitman Beorn and Hamish de Bretton-Gordan gave at times an interesting talk and touched upon issues in Ukraine.
On a WW2 note a (then)18 year old Tank driver by the name of Richard Aldred gave a very entertaining talk about his experience in Normandy driving a Cromwell…
One to try and find on the WWW when it might appear…
Here is a newspaper article about the veteran...

If they thought Ukraine had broken through the hard crust and would soon see big gains, it wouldn't be the time to finally release a weapon that has been held back for so long
Or some background threshold in which Russia was told if you do X we will do Y has been breached.
Could be plenty of reasons for the release that doesn't fit your statement...

Hmm have you been reading the same thread as me?
Can you explain further how Russia can dictate terms and bring this war to an end?
Maybe we are missing something that you can explain?

Word. It'd be nice if Starmer would keep him as Defence, when the Tories cave at the next election (to leave Labour or a Coalition holding the nasty, badly-cared-for crack baby that the economy will be by then) but that simply isn't going to happen.
Stupid party politics.
If Labour offered him the position do you really think he would take it? Really
BTW he has said some pretty silly things in the past and one man doesn't make defence decisions alone. I have a feeling the British senior military figures might have greater sway than Ben.

At least one of the drones appears to have just glided down into an open field without kinetic interference, so between AD intercepts and possible guidance jamming, it will be difficult to say what was an intended target.
Just watching the BBC report I don't think the drones had any explosive on them, it could just be a big stunt. The Russians have not shown any serious damage and the media have a bit easier access to film any serious damage in Moscow.
We will have to see what the drones were to understand the possible range and any possible payload, but its looking like it was more of a psychology opportunity than a serious military hit.

rattled the Japanese public
For FA effect on the public and absolutely pointless. We have numerous posts saying why bombing Civies and cities in Ukraine are counter productive to Russia.
Unless Ukraine had specific military targets of worth in Moscow then imo they would be better to focus on less defended military targets. Russian military Planes sat on runways perhaps?

Minor damage and no serious injuries
I hope Ukraine is targeting military targets in Moscow as otherwise it is a pointless exercise and could weaken support.
Surely they would have been better deployed against the forces launching attacks on Ukraine. But until we know the targets in Moscow I guess it is just a feeling of unease that Ukraine is wasting precious military strike capability.

I am not sure Elvis can do anything about players not undertaking turns. I think it would need coding and I bet that has not been done.
With FOG2 the system assess who has not sent turns in a timely manner and awards points to the player that has. For those not aware of how FOG2 handles it here is the standard text for every tourney.
https://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=113282
While this is not perfect as folk in the wrong time zone can have more time clocked against them it does at least keep those who send turns back quickly in with a chance of getting into the top group of players. I would hope that Battlefront would do something similar if at all possible?
As for the Slitherine message system it does work but only if the oppo has it set up to forward e-mails to them or they bother to check the forum system. As many folk don't even know there is a forum message system this is why it does not work.
Look on the top right of the Slitherine Forum page to see notifications and messages. As the person playing has set up a Slitherine user name you can try and contact them that way.
