Could these mortars be easily removed for ground emplacement? Were they designed for that or were they deemed for "in track" use only?

Hi David Thanks for asking, 18 have been completed, this includes the 12 original classics and a few of the 78 "situation 13s" that came out of various sources which I've been able to collect. Two have finished playtesting and are up at Scenario Depot, Situations 1 & 4 - 2,3,5,& 6 are presently being play tested and should be up in a week or two. If there are any experienced PanzerBlitz players out there I'd be interested in knowing if they had any favorites amongst the situations created after the classic 12. Out of the 78 situations I have I've selected 31 to be converted based on playability and interest to CMBB players. Having been a rabid PB player its good to see the old map boards again and all of the situations played so far have proven to be very interesting. Converting PB to CMBB has proved challenging as the two sets of designers had differ views on the ability of Russian vs German Units. This is shown by Soviet units coming in company size versus Platoon for German. In the CMBB conversions some 'trading' has gone resulting in most sides have been 2,000-4,000 points. Some equipment changes especially in tanks to reflect the new knowledge of the war learned since the early 70s has also occurred. Hans

They vary from small to large, with Task Force Smith being the largest I believe. They are all CMBB scenarios and use substitute nationalities for the real one involved. For TFS Russians stand in for the North Koreans and Germans for the Americans. The smallest is probably "Sgt Sergei"

May I suggest "Hunting Slobo's band" which is a Partisan battle, "Raid on Madrid" which is a 1937 Republican tank raid, "An Island to Close" which is a small scale amphib attack, "Task Force Smith" which is a historic recreation of the first encounter between the Americans and North Korean Armor in 1950, "The Tale of Sgt Sergei", another partisan battle, "PanzerBlitz situation #1" which is a Russian cavalry/tank raid on a German rear area signal and flak unit. "Albandero Spanish Civil war" a armour car and cavalry raid against a Republican forward logistic depot and one operation, "Gelandeerkundung Kapische", a long range German Recce towards the Caspian sea. All of those are what I would deem "out of the box" Enjoy

Indirect fire. Any type of gun can do (even MGs) but you have to have some preparation and special training to do it effectively. 1. You need to know where you are at (survey) and need to know the ballistic characteristics of your weapon at elevation and charge (this requires bulky manuals, a special device to do the "leveling" and the mathemical ability to conduct the calculations. 2. You can fudge this by firing a sighting round which can be adjusted but even that requires a certain amount of advanced training. 'Lobbing' can work but it's slow and the gun tends to shift during this type of work making adjustment difficult. 3. The abililty to lock the gun in position (emplacement) and an external aiming point or aiming site. 4. Most AFVs used fixed ammo which gives you just one charge setting (usually very powerful) which makes short range shooting impossible -unless you have a great deal of elevation - and if you do the accuracy will decrease greatly. That is what I remember from the class on "why you slap the infantry when they request the tanks to fire indirect" from FAOBC. Basicly you can do it but its difficult, requires a lot special training and is very difficult at short ranges.

One devious way to out wit the AI to fire a barrage, place an forward observer in such a place that it can see a truck sitting on top of a TRP-normally the AI will open up on that. Not a great solution but the only one I've found so far.

Does cm model duds? If so it might be one of those solid shots that might not be to damaging - except to morale.

Comment on changable weather in North Africa Living in a sandblown nation myself I can assure you a wicked and blinding sandstorm can blow up and end within 30 minutes-not to mention. Sudden (in season) and rare thunderstorms that would change a nice defendable gulley in to a water gutter. Not to mention the effects of common "wind devils" wirl winds that sweep thru an area. The change from dark to dawn and dusk to night would be good as would variable weather effects. In the desert that would mean two main factors Wind (and how much dust was whipping up) Heat (how much distortion (mirage) you'd have) plus the glare effect of where the sun was rising or setting (the sun in your eyes was devasting in the desert) Another aspect of the changability will be night illumination-which should be modelled to change (as a scenario designer I'd like to specify a moonless or full moon night)-or the moon starting to come up after 30 minutes etc....etc Hey Madmatt I'm already collecting material for Italian scenarios.....for CM III

Hey Battlefront I'm offended, one of those slimy dastards actually spoke to me - I feel unnerved and unclean. Heck I feel like the driver of a bright yellow CV-33 at a T-34 gunners training school.. I demand that a warning label be put on all "peng" things - and only by answering a few pertinent questions - showing you are either a learnt veteran of CMBO/BB or a liberal anarchist. to be answered before you are allowed in. This will keep the young and foolish newbies from floundering into that sordid heap of trash, gamey advice and poor tactics. Failing that I recommend they be given a forum of their own. The strangness of war In the real world things like that happened. In WWI a newly formed German company was matching up to front from the railhead when a 12" British shell came in, killing everyone but one man, whose horse was killed but leaving him, the commander unharmed. There were a lot of incidents of below being caught in HE explosions, their uniforms blown off yet surviving....c'est la guerre (or some such frog talk) ; ]

Well it happens Once in the dreaded Grafenwohr as part of an exercise I smoked the entire impact area to ensure the target, a hill nicked named the "witches tit" was covered....covered the entire impact area and part of the post but NOT the witches tit which due to some atmospheric anomaly was not covered at all - that was using 2 x 155 battalions of smoke x 4 with the odd 4.2 thrown in....dang it was embarassing.
