1. In my ongoing debates with my pro-console buddies, Im running out of ammunition. Console games which produce images like that screenshot right there is what keeps draining it up. Wow...this is what I see "CMII" becoming someday (I know Charles would rather hang himself then try to produce such graphics working by his lonesome). Thank goodness that no matter how flashy they become, consoles are still brainless fighting/platform/interactive movie games. Kessen is not very strategic I heard, just cinimatic. Very little actual tactics involved. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
2. The proccessors are completely different too then, huh? So what would a 300MHz on a console equal in computer terms? 5Ghz? With those graphics and smooth frame rate, it's not out of the question...
3. What the hell? When I open any of the trailer-links, it asks me to download a file for Quicktime. So I do, its always very small, and when I run it it's just a "click to play" window in Quicktime. It doesnt load anymore. What am I doing wrong?
4. Thanks for the quick responces, guys. I never thought that just because the PC can do more then a console it can't be as good graphic wise with a good chipset. Oh well, the hell do I know? Im glad that the card will be reaching the PC, however, even if it doesnt have the effect it does on the X-box, by the time this console hits the shelves we'll be playing CM on 2.5Ghz machines ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back" [This message has been edited by The Commissar (edited 01-13-2001).]
5. One of my favorite online gaming websites, ign, had an article about the X-Box stats in it's PC section, which I normally check out. So I took a look at the stats of this new console (which is supposedly several times more powerful then the PS2 currently out), and to my amazement, the thing only has something like a 300MHz Processor, with some 64mg's of RAM! This leads me to conclude that the ridiculously spectacular graphics produced by this next gen console is all thanks to its video card. Which, in turn, leads me to ask "Why the HELL can't they get a video card like that for the PC?!" Im assuming they would need to change it to work for the PC and all, but I dont see much else stopping them from doing so. Even if the card was sold for $400, I'd gladly save up the cash to buy it if it meant such amazing visual treats! Someone care to explain to me why this'll never happen? ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
6. Tovarish Commissar, This has already been discussed in a few messeges, and I believe an answer was not given. Madmat closed down the thread and said that he would "propose" it to BTS or something of the sort, but he doesnt think they would take it. Mainly since they want to stick to realism and all. Personally, this option would be a dream for me. Finally quench that American "we won the war" crap with a well-placed Katchusha barrage ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
7. Try a gaming club www.thegrognards.com still has a section for demo players.
8. Voted twice, one for each one of my e-mails ! I hate to be the pessimist, but Im afraid despite our most valiant of efforts, 600 trillion moronic "The Sims" fans will beat us out for the game that allows your character to lead a life YOU have lead if only you stoped playing the damn game all the time.
9. Jezus H. Christ, Madmatt, don't do that! Just because we mock you due to your utter lack of hair doesn't mean you have to strangle yourself with a cord! Think of how much you have to live for! You've got the CMHQ! Yeah, that still needs you! Sure, some might say an elderly snail can run it faster then you on occasions, but it wouldn't have your "magic touch"! BTS still needs you! For doing, uh, stuff...alot. Oh, and most of all WE need you! We need you to stop posting pics of yourself, you freak. You owe me $3,000 in psychyatric bills, buddy! On second thought, let me help you tighten that cord up a bit. * This messege was intended for humour and humour only. Madmatt's a great guy and does a lot for the community. Cheers! * ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
10. Golly, thats candy for the eyes right there! Tell me, how in the world did you two create those (rock formations?) I see in the background? Also, what texture is replaced by the sand, and what effect does it have on movement? Keep up the good work, I think this will be the first ever CM Total Conversion, of a sort! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
11. Not meaning to get you so dissapointed as to contemplate suicide, but Im betting dollars to donuts that BTS really hasnt started on CM2 yet - probably the first few screenies would be seen in a few months, and ONLY if you people stop asking BTS for updates to the current game! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
12. I wonder if there are functional MG34's still around for the civilian who has everything? Not that I plan to use it against live targets, but it would be "like, totally kool" to go to a target range with one of those bad-boys! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
13. KiwiJoe, Actually it doesnt limit the Allied killing power, but increases it. Want proof? Do an all armor battle, where your opponent buys all Panthers (for about 180+ a pop) while you buy all M-18's (76mm), for about 120 a pop). Then, watch as the M-18's completely and totally BUTCHER the Panthers with their superior speed, tungsten ammunition, and very fast turret rotation. Ive done it myself, and when used wisely, a platoon of M-18's will do wonders for destroying the fiercest of German Uber-tanks. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back" [This message has been edited by The Commissar (edited 01-11-2001).]
14. Keep us updated for who the final victor will be, Mudfrost! They better pick CM - Shrapnel games has my respect, but what they do is the same as has been done by countless others. Just because an old idea has a new "polish" like interface and scenarios types, doesnt mean it deserves to be "wargame of the year" when there is an original piece of art like CM around. Cheers!
15. Bastables, Excellent article, and one I have seen before a while ago on this board. Still, it proves that the biggest fault behind Kursk from the German perspective was the Fuhrer, and certaintly not the already over-rated "Ol' Blood and Guts" Patton.
16. Jasper, By your mentality, it is also true to state that the USSR made Patton (and generally the invasion of Europe by the Allies) succeed. I wonder how they would have fared if there were 128 more German divisions in Europe? Point is, the Allies helped each other, and were also helped by the fact that Hitler didn't know what he was doing but was too stubborn to admit it. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back" [This message has been edited by The Commissar (edited 01-10-2001).]
17. Interesting info, all of you, to say the least. I/O Error, the only thing which really hinders my resolve to join the Russian armed forces is the over-all poor situation, funding, leadership, and morale at this time. Thing is, I plan (or hope to, the better word for this would be) land a small position of command, like a platoon or lieutenant, through college programs and training. I guess this might seem that I am "afraid to get in the mud" but it's not that - I enjoy the feeling of at least being partially responsible for the way things turn out in a fire fight, as silly as that must sound. I think my best bet for this would be through college first, which I plan to do, or West Point of course. I would not be able to get into WP (Im not exactly stupid, but below WP's very high expectations), so college seems to be the only choice, hopefully a military one. Since I was not educated in Russia, I would also not be able to go to a military academy there, seeing as my overall learning skills in the language go as far as 3rd grade level (the grade in which I moved to the States). Im looking for the best way I can play this out, and its all quite a bit confusing. ROTC seems to be an option, though. Anyone have any real experience with this? ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
18.
quote:
Originally posted by Slapdragon: CM XXI: War of the Rings B]

LoL! I can just see commanding a platoon of fat, furry-footed midgets... Actually, LOTR would be cool...I loved the books as a kid!
19. Ugh, I cannot believe you people haven't figured it out yet. These dreams and overall "invasion of the thought proccess" is just that: the first noticable steps to what will very soon develop into full-blown mind control. Steve and Charles are actually nefarious villains out to build themselves an Elite army of overweight, middle-aged men! Oh the horror! That, and totally control your every movement at their liesure - What? Goddamnit Steve, I already took out my life savings at the bank, what the hell more do you - YES MASTER. MUST...KILL...FAMILY... ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back" [This message has been edited by The Commissar (edited 01-09-2001).]
20. This is pretty neat! Too bad my modem connection speed is not sufficient enough to keep it running smoothly. Winamp keeps "buffering" it every few minutes. And what's with the song suddently switching to speeches, to broadcasts without either finishing? Is it supposed to be like this? Oh yeah, and I wish I could understand what that German fellow was saying. All I understood was "infantrie" and "Smolensk"
21. Whoa...I just woke up after passing out when I took a look at all those purdy numbers. Jesus, I just realised people build proffesions calculating this stuff! And I though posts about the intricate dates and details of some meaningless battle was groggy! Keep up the good work though, this could be useful to some, specially BTS! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
22. You know Benny, if you appologized for the first silly thing you said, you'd get out of it as a gentleman and people wouldn't be bugging you in every thread you post.
23. Wow, thanks for that nice link Forever Babra! Damn...articles from over 85 magazines... Thanks again! [This message has been edited by The Commissar (edited 01-07-2001).]
24. Moriarty, I was just reffering to the way the Peng thread started: a challange! 'fcourse, Seniletea (or whatever you call him now-a-days) did it in a clever way. BTW - Can anyone explain what the heck Benny is talking about? Is there a thread where someone insulted him? Which one?
25. Can anyone recommend any good magazines about wargaming or wars at all? Ive been trying to find some at my local Barnes and Nobles, but they seem to have a lack of them. If you could provide links which would get me to a subscription, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! Cheers!
