  1. If I had a horsey, I'd name it Pretty. Because horseis ARE pretty. Alas, I've got no horsies. Look for Steve's post at the bottom of the first page: http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/015815.html Basically, modeling problems and the way they were mostly used for raids and partisan actions (although I see no reason not to model partisans). Mostly the whole difficult modeling bit is to blame, then. 2. Wowzers tiger, spiffy-keen Poom-err y'got there! Hope to see it up on Missions or Madmatt's soon. Really starting to show off lately, keep it up!
  3. I'd mention horses, b-but...they...said... I'm sorry, Ive got something in my eye... *runs off weeping* IE: No horsies. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  4. *whew* Now that jason provided us with his usual quality essay-long post, I feel a bit safer. Still, I'll try to keep the mixing down to a minimum, making a few exceptions here and there when I feel Airborne could be useful - if anyone asks, Ill blame it on history Bruno, You putz, we were talking about Russian words, not Polish ! The two languages are similar, and many words in Russian mean the same/sound the same in Polish, and vise versa. When my Polish buddies talk, I can usually understand half the conversation Oh, and buy one of those small Russian-English dictionaries if you dont believe me you klutz ! Now, for some seriousness: I was recently reading up on some U.S. Cav actions in the war, and would like to ask someone for a realistic-looking setup for a Cav force. I know the light vehicles like the Greyhound and light tanks like Stuarts have to be in, but what else? HT's? What types of infantry? Thanks in advance, Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"

  7. Seeing as how all the info can be found on the net, I suggest BTS just provides links for this info on the CD. That way, they wouldnt have to write any document/break copyrights by putting it on their CD Oh yeah, and Soviet tactics were made to be just as complex and educated as German ones - the reasons your little example happened is because when you give a farmer a pretty badge and tell him he's now a Luitenant, doesnt mean ke knows s@it about what to do in a combat situation. Purges do things like that, y'know. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  8. Yes, Id love a chance to battle the Finns and make up for stupid Soviet leadership! Oh, wait, not much to make up with here Skitroops were mentioned to be included by Steve in one of his interviews - Id like to remind everyone that after the Winter War, Soviets used ski troops as well! So dont let the Finns have all the fun Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  9. Looking at the link Gremlin provided, it doesnt seem there was much gear to carry. excluding things like Skis.
  10. MikeT, I dont think when Gremlin asked for the ability to scale mountains, he meant Mt. Everest! Most cliffs/hills/steep slopes in CM are, at most, some 50 metres high. For an experienced climber, that's nothing. Now, if someone was firing at you while you were climbing, thats a whole nother story! I believe its completely in scale, since to climb a regular high in CM, which is anywhere between 10-20 metres high, would take no more then 5-10 minutes for Regulars, and even quicker for experienced climbers. True, it would take a while, but if it ment catching a snoozing enemy by surprise, its well worth it! Cheers! EDIT: Gosh darned spelling mistakes! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back" [This message has been edited by The Commissar (edited 02-04-2001).] [This message has been edited by The Commissar (edited 02-04-2001).]
  11. Gremlin has a point, Tiger, no need to mock for it. Paras are not modeled simply because it would be too difficult to do so in the game engine. Climbing mountains/slopes is NOT difficult to model, and is perfectly in scale, and 'should' be somewhat realistic. It would be somewhat cool to have a "Risk factor" involved. The less experienced the Gebirgsäjer, the more chance of one or two taking a nice big fall Were there more Gebirgsajer on the East front? If so, this should make it in. Just a suggestion. 15. Ive seen the same thing happen with the exact same caliber gun. See my "Ever felt like killing your own units?" thread. In it, my gun also died of fatal artillerly - my own > Incompetent bastards deserved it, I say. One came forward to meet the challange. He stepped over Germanboy - who was curled up in the fetal position, peeing himself and muttering over and over again "but their too heavy to run!" - and walked up the the Hot Seat computer they would use for this fateful battle. 18. I think youre putting that a bit strongly, Jason. It was expected of them to use the fasut as an anti-tank, but I doubt seeing one resulted in abandoning everything you are doing (like saving your hide) and engaging the tank right then and there. I assume men were trained to use them with some caution, like from cover and not being shot at (in the best circumstances). Of course, approaching a 30 ton machine, which you just witnessed blowing the rest of your comerads to hell, close enough to use a faust would make anybody nervous and unwilling. I believe, however, that some of these fears were unfounded. I am under the impression that you couldnt see much out of a buttoned tanks, and lets face it, in the heat of battle most tankers would seal their hatches. Thus, I assume one could get off a shot and dissapear into the brush without having it shoot you up. When infatry comes into play, thats a whole 'nother story, however. Can anyone back this up, or am I missing something? Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  19. Its a public forum for showing off your skills at both fighting and taunting. If you are lacking in one or the other, you can make up for it by being very good at either. For example, crap-generals can still achieve respect (well, Peng-thread respect) from their peers by insulting their opponent in a witty way. Or the next Patton can make up for the remarks made by his opponent by publicly bashing his skull in during a PBEM. It's all about wittiness, or was in the beginning. I think its getting a bit less humorous now then it used to be. Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  20. Lord Dreaman, Since you are basing your argument on a battle against the computer AI, it isnt a very solid argument The AI, although being able to perform simple actions reasonably well, is not really experienced at anything overly complex. Taking out an infatry gun would be considered "complex", since you have to do with caution and good timing, something the computer often lacks. Basically, most players would do one of severl things to destroy your gun(s): 1) Arty its position with HE shells. 2) Smoke its position with Arty, and rush it with infantry. 3) Sneak up a tank/SP gun and blow the gun crew to smithereens. 4) Any combination of the above. There are truly no "uber-weapons" in CM. You just have to try a bit harder to destroy some rather then others. An all out rush against most any AP Gun will cost the lives of many men. Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  21. Thanks for that information, Andrew. My conscience is feeling better already Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  22. In my experience, the fausts dont cause a lot of damage, but rather suppress the enemy infantry. The higher the experience level of your German troops, the more they will use their fausts, whether for armor or for infantry. In one of my PBEM's, this backfired on the enemy who had two Veteran German platoons in a heavy building, firing at my disorganized and badly battared forces in the opposite buildings. I thought I was about to break, but then one genious fired a faust. The building goes into flames, and all his troops run out of the burning building and into a meatgrinder. My opponent yelled a good bit after that, LOL So, in conclusion, be careful about high experience German troops in town battles. They can be their own worst enemy. 23. ...the penguin halocaust. Thanks to brutal Nazi regeme, any strange sexual preferences were looked down upon. Seeing as how penguins enjoyed participation in most of those strange sexual preferences, they were to be stalked down and beaten over the head with large tire-irons, "until the Fatherland would be rid of those no good perverted scum!" This of course, as every grog knows, led to New Guina's entrance into the war, which tipped the scales heavily in favour of the Allies. One particular hero of that glorious country was named...
  24. Now, I understand that there was no "combined strategy". However, you do agree they often had to fight together, before the situation was "under control". Now, I will argue that in CM, you are not one type of leader. You can be anything from a company commander, to a battalion commander. You are a combination of many leaders, not one all-powerful entity. Now, if this is indeed true, then I dont see why it would be considered wrong for me to "assume" command of those Airborne. In real life, they might as well have been under another leader, with myself in support. However, because this is CM and not real life, it is not possible to have the Airborne as a seperate force controlled by anyone but myself. There's that "a combination of leaders" concept again. So, if I include Airborne in battles, I could say the situation is indeed NOT "in control" and I am coordinating efforts with the Airborne force to place the situation "under control". That, or I'm a stubborn bastard Pick either choice, I feel my thoughts on the matter are at least somewhat justified, but then again, you feel the same towards your statements. Aren't discussions fun? BTS made things the way they are so if you had a wish of representing an all out Airborne, or an all out Infantry battle. If they did not recognize that the two had instances where they coordinated their action before parting again to fulfill their seperate roles, they would simply not have allowed us to combine service branches. Yes, I know. I was more referring to the "Uber-tank" players who insist on including a museum-worth of steel behomoths and whine when one mentions "gaminess". I dont feel it a waste - more of a disagreement. If your definition of a "fine" live oponent lies in having history-book accurate units, I am somewhat lacking. If the definition involves winning at any cost, I am also lacking, since I do abide by some restrictions. I try to keep it balanced, and if you ask any of my opponents, usually a fun game results. BTW - Are you not in the Grognards club? I'd ask for a game, but my computer is busted Would be interersting fighting a fully historically-realistic battle.
