  1. A feint doesn't require much shipping. Besides, would you trade a German Kampfgruppe for a major portion of the RN? Of course you would. 20 U-boats, twenty lost CA. At least. Plus you get another shot when they're scurrying back to port. So call it 40. Rinse and repeat the next day. Time it so they have to show up around dawn. Not a major problem. This one is true. I still haven't figured out how those Stukas could hit a tank, yet miss a ship. However, there's a fix for that too. Mainly, more Stukas. Bah, don't be a bean counter. We're out to rule the world here! Not as weak as you think, plus they'd have the advantage of surprise. Could have, but would have been a hell of a risk. Agree though it would have been better to wait a year, build better landing craft, and mount a 88 on the back of every single dang one of them.
  2. Well, there was always the option of doing a feint. RN sails down to save the day, Luftwaffe & U-boats have a field day, then the real invasion shows up.
  3. Well, remember those 1,000 LST's that I pointed out? The US considered them a one-way ship as they thought loses were going to be staggering. There is no doubt Germany could have done Sealion, if they had prepared properly for it beforehand (which they didn't), or built the shipping to do so and held off on Russia till later.
  4. But it doesn't do you much good if all your Battleships are 12 hours away in Scapa Flow, which is the point. No need to build an expensive radar warning system when a guy with a telephone will work just as well.
  5. Rambo, there's quite a bit of difference between doing an air search and a sea search with radar. Mostly, this little thing called the horizon. See here. https://ewhdbks.mugu.navy.mil/rdr-hori.pdf So, against an invasion fleet, you'd get about fifteen minutes warning as they come over the horizon. Not enough to do any good. Against bombers coming in at 10,000 feet however, about two hours.
  6. Oh yeah, agree there. Easily made a house rule with the editor. I was just trying to help thrash out something for the patch, and I think Hubert could do better than that alone with minimal effort. If nothing else, we gave him plenty of ideas in this thread.
  7. Why do you insist on reducing the range, when as Lampcord has already shown, it doesn't necessarily solve the problem? Besides, we can all do that ourselves if we wish.
  8. A new tech would be too much work, but adding on to an existing tech would be easy enough.
  9. Yeah, but I think it would be a simple programming change. The code is pretty much there already with Intercept for AF. The other part of it can already be done through the editor, except for the Infrastructure tech tie-in, which I would also like to see. Infrastructure 0 - two amphibs. Infrastructure 1 - three. etc. [ May 08, 2006, 11:50 AM: Message edited by: Lars ]
  10. Er, if you're going to kamakaze a BB with a 2 strength CV, you deserve to lose it. I see nothing that needs fixing in that regard.
  11. Sorry, the word processor stuck a cap in there automatically. Add it to the list of sins Microsoft has committed, as giving you that amount of respect is obviously a bug.
  12. Well, I showed the range on LST's, so there's no historical reason to limit the range, and as you point out, it doesn't solve the game play problem anyway. I think this, Along with this, would solve the problem. Now you need to win the air and sea fight before trying Sealion, or suffer at least four hits on the transports. 1 AF, 1 Bomber & 2 Carriers, if still in range. Move the Med Carrier up to England and it'll be very difficult to pull off. This would also help the Axis to an extent on their side in France and Italy, but not wildly so. And it would force the Allies to win air superiority to an extent before trying their invasions. Also would help for some of those ahistorical Med amphib ops you see now. If you're getting dinged by a AF in Malta , a AF in Egypt, and the Med Carrier, suddenly sailing around Alexandria to do the surprise landing in the rear don't look so good.
  13. Rleete has just decided to evacuate Egypt after getting spanked by the Africa Corps and losing Alexandria. Too bad, I was really looking forward a bigger pyramid of skulls as the photo op just won't be the same at Giza without them. Probably won't even be high enough to top Menkaure's now. Shoot.
  14. This is the most stupid thing I ever heard. This “solution” has nothing with gameplay. Unfortunately, this is not only case. Lots of players memorized scripts before playing. This like you know the future. We are all Nostradamus . I know that this “issue” cannot be avoided but it should be minimized. And that’s why I suggested purchase and manual deploy options for partisans. In that way players will never know where partisans will be placed. Of course, these options must follow some restrictions like – soft limit for partisan units and partisans cannot go across its national borders </font>
  15. Er, actually, they can do it very easily. LST - Range about 10,000 miles on 50,000 gallons of diesel fuel. And could carry six LCVP on board to boot. We only built over a 1,000 of them. You should really do a little research before making such wild claims. And at 10 knots, New York-London or New York-Casablanca is only 14 days.
  16. Did anybody else find it disturbing that he keeps his sex toy on the porch?
  17. btw, Good news Macy, ol boy. You're finally going to learn to dance!
  18. It would be if it wasn't for the readiness hit. You want to reduce that too, I'd say fine. But I can already hear the same old whining from SC1 about fresh troops being dumped on your shores after spending three or four turns at sea.
  19. Gonna run my CA's and BB's in till your two or three airfleet strikes are used up. Perhaps autoset to hit only amphib and transport would work. I don't think we need to take them offline just to guard the coasts.
