  2. Guys, thanks for the advice. 95OSR2 is just too painful. I don't think I've even got the cd anymore.. I went with 98SE in the end, and thankfully, using a ghosted image, got the build on my machine in under five minutes. Now, this is the interesting bit. My KyroII. I do believe it isn't fully supported by CM. Is there anyway I can find this out for sure? Look at the readme that installs with the game. Depending on the drivers I use, I either have to put up with garbled text on the screen, or transparent vehicles. Even worse is when I go to play against a colleague via TCP. For some reason, the lower half of the screen corrupts graphically and I'm left with a very stable, but highly unusual game of CM.. All the buttons disappear and I'm left with guessing what button is where. Quite amusing actually, even if it is gutting.

  5. That is the question... I've got my hands on a second drive and I will be reinstalling one of these operating systems purely for CM's use. Which O/S in your opinion, is the best for CM? I'm going to be using it with a 1ghz Thunderbird and half a gig of ram I love XP, but I have some issues with the graphics card drivers. Until they sort that out the build will become redundant.

  9. Hats off to you mate. I was just thinking about the lack of CMMOS h/t support for the Germans.. What we need now is decent terrain support. One bug bear in CM. Implementing all the different terrain sets.
  10. There are some german vehicle mods available, (PanzerIV and Panther) plus a german uniforms mod. You can find links to them on combatmission.com. It's just a matter of time. I'm sure we'll be seeing more mods for CMMOS.
  11. I'm running CM on XP release 2526, with a KyroII card. Single player is fantastic, albeit with some weird problems with transparent textures, (I can live with it) but TCP against a mac is a major issue. The game will hang for one of us. I haven't a clue what is causing this. I'm going to be using my second drive with 98 or ME, so this isn't a biggy for me now.
  12. With the recent issues I'm experiencing with XP, I was thinking of putting 2000 back on. Does anyone know of any issues with this? Does TCP work okay?
  13. I understand about the O/S. I was trying to TCP against a G3, with OS9.1. All sorts of problems. I'll put it down to XP for now.
  14. I've had very mixed results with arty. I've had successful 81mm barrages where I've hit h/t's and men, and then I've had poor performace 155 that hasn't *appeared* to do much at all. I think FOW plays a big part here, because certainly on the receiving end my platoons panic and run even in proximity.
  15. Okay, I lie. I know there are issues with the drivers but I don't have a lot of choice with this operating system. Has anyone successfully TCP'd with anyone else?? Am I really talking to myself here??
  16. I think it's time we had some sort of FAQ for this marvellous piece of kit. In particular, the thing that stumps me. Am I right in thinking that to use, for example, the british army mod for all the brit tanks, you need to make sure you have the relevant Bergman mods in the BMP folder first? I was happily clicking away and I realised (after a while - doh!) that the mods weren't actually being installed by CMMOS. If this is the case, can we just use his standard mods, or do we have to wait for rulesets and such like to appear? It would be really good if there was a resource out there on the web that was purely geared up for CMMOS mods, and that all future mods could be used by it. Think of the potential here. Terrain, sky sets etc etc.. Makes it real easy too. Hats off to the designer. Great idea.

  18. Okay, got XP installed and for all intents and purposes it appears to work okay. Apart from the issue I've got with my KyroII drivers, CM appears to be working fine. However, when I try to play my opponent (who happens to be on a G3) we have strange occurences. If I host, we can get a connection but I get really bad screen artifacts and have no choice but to quit and restart. If he hosts we only appear to have side on the screen. ie. The axis or allies will show up, but not both together! weird or what.. Single player is still perfect. Has anyone seen anything like this?
  19. It's been quite a long time since I played head to head CM. I got used to playing the AI, and obviously my tactics were geared up for that. Well you can guess what happened. I got totally beaten, but hats off to this game. It's still on my HD and will remain so for quite some time to come.
  20. Well... I did it... and guess what.. It works!! I'm impressed. Okay, I had to turn off the playschool effect but generally I like, and even better, CM works a treat No transparency problems at all!
  21. I want to try and resolve the current issues with the KyroII and Combat Mission. I've been informed that XP fully supports the KyroII and it's native support is a lot better than any other version of the O/S. There are also new Xp compatible KyroII drivers on the powervr website. Has anyone tried CM with Windows XP? In particular I want to resolve the transparent textures using the latest drivers for 98/ME.   22. The 8162's work a lot better than previous drivers, however they are not perfect. Fog now works perfectly and the overall performance is better, but I still suffer the transparant vehicle textures. Not a biggy, but annoying. However, the big issue for me, is how these drivers effect other games, in particular, the IL2 demo.
  23. Does Marco or Fernando have their own webspace, or are their mods hosted by others?
  24. Just downloaded the latest addition for CMMOS and can't get it to work.. I've manually copied the BMP's into the BMP folder as requested and I've unzipped the rules set into the relevant folder. The icons appear, but they are crossed out, and I'm not sure why. I don't know if it's me, but I'm finding this a little confusing. There are several different readmes for these files.
