  1. Thanking you Bruno. Just something I've noticed. I have say, a dozen icons on my desktop at the minute. I've noticed that some of them are in fact pointing to the same batch file so I guess it's one batch file per nationality yes?
  2. Can someone tell me the 'definitive' way to install and use Marco's mods. I love using them but I've got loads of different icons pointing to (what appears to be) different batch files, and I'm not sure if I'm getting the best results. I'm getting my knickers in a twist.
  3. God, totally forgot about TRL. That's a top film too. It's a difficult choice between these three really for me: Thin Red Line Saving Private Ryan When Trumpets Fade Who's seen When Trumpets Fade? The charge through the forest is stunning. All are good, but I think personally, TRL is the classier film. Anyway, digressing!
  4. Hi Wesy, The 1.05 patch was very stable on my Win ME rig. It was only when tcp was introduced that I started to get the constant lockups. I could almost guarantee a lockup in a 30 turner. I'm not saying that the problem was ME but when I downgraded the problem went away. It could be a host of things to be honest.
  5. My personal favorites: SPR Cross Of Iron When Trumpets Fade - excellent film Bridge Too Far
  6. I take it this is with the latest patch? I was under the impression that if the tank doesn't see the target as *that much* of a threat then it will attempt to block LOS in order to help others, hence the smoke rounds. I must admit, although the tanks use smoke quite a lot, it isn't half as bad as it used to be with the beta patches. I'm glad to see the AI arty doesn't fire smoke towards the end of the engagement either now!

  8. I seem to remember that on the day the film was screened publicly a lot of the vets that had been invited said it was pretty authentic. The only thing missing was the smell of the cordite (spelling?).
  9. Maybe a daft question, but when reading a thread below it just got me thinking. I recently saw some colour footage from what appeared to be the remnants of a British soldier in a landing craft that had been shot up as it hit the beach. It was very graphic to say the least. The narrator was talking about the dday landings at the time, but it was intersected with footage from Dieppe in '42 so I'm not quite sure where it's origins lie. Just damn thought provoking you know, when you see authentic film like that.
  10. Hi Wesy, I've got a 900mhz TBird and I had serious issues with CM when running Win ME. I talked at length with a few people on this board and at first I thought it was heat related. But turns out not to be the case. Anyway, downgrading to 98SE has fixed it for me. It might actually be driver realted - more than likey I'd say but trying to establish what it was was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Anyway, no more crashes for me now, not even in tcp. Just food for thought. Like others say here, keep your drivers up to date, but watch out for the old/new graphics drivers. Read the readme supplied with the patch! One thing to note - CM is a LOT quicker with a Tbird than the equivalent PIII [This message has been edited by phil stanbridge (edited 01-19-2001).]
  11. guys, I have a very similar system to the aforementioned and I hate to say it, but it I get slowdowns too. Nothing as drastic as what is being said here but it still stutters and the wait is ridiculous when I enable FSAA. Shame because it looks stunning.
  12. ..Well I'm not forcing you to read anything buddy. I don't mind sarcasm but please don't offend. I would have fallen back on the remnants of my company, only the tank was it! This "mathematical probability mechanism" has got to be random in my opinion. There has to be some luck involved.
  13. Try setting AGP aperture size to 128.
  14. I doubt very much that is a over-heating issue. It's a Duron after all. Providing of course it isn't overclocked? You should have some software that comes with your computer/motherboard that you can run that will tell you how hot the cpu is running. My problem was resolved when I downgraded to 98SE. I went through every other option. It was a bit drastic but it worked.
  15. ..Something I've just thought about in reading the last post.. AGP Aperture size. It should be half the size of your physical RAM. Please tell me if I am wrong, but mine's set to 128. I have 256meg of RAM. Misconception is that people think it should be half the size of graphics card memory which isn't the case.
  16. Strictly speaking you get no advantage running CM in 32bit colour. However, depending on your card, running 32bit with FSAA enabled what happens? I'm thinking the interpolation with the 32bit *should* improve the look over standard 16bit. I'm thinking it will also slow it down a lot. Are there framerate increases if you run in 16bit? I can't test this until tonight.
  17. Please be more specific and I will try to help you out. I had loads of lock ups too. You can get your sound card drivers from Soundblaster.com.
  18. FSAA - Full Screen Anti Aliasing. Advanced properites of your graphics display. Somewhere in there you'll see a setting for Anti Aliasing. Look it up and try disabling it if it is enabled. It makes the majority of games look great but with Nvidia cards there seems to be a framerate issue. RAID - Random Array of Inexpensive Disks believe it or not. Not sure what that is all about though..
  19. Ha.. I like it. I guess it's possible they were distracted, as there were a couple of British infantry squads close by, but these had just been routed by machine gun fire from the tank. They were conscripts. There was also another unidentified target in the distance, (pretty insignificant) but I find it difficult to believe this would put them off. Surely they would just buttoned?
  20. How's about this: I've got a similar spec to yourself apart from the graphics card. I have found that running the game in FSAA is an absolute nightmare. It isn't worth the effort as on the larger scenarios it slows almost to a halt. Turn off FSAA and see if you get improvements.
  21. Okay. Question: In one scenario my Tiger has complete LOS to the target, which has been spotted as possible light armour. Now this light armour is only 70m away across an open field, in clear skies. (I'm trying to imagine 70m and it isn't really that far is it?) How come my Tiger, which is unbuttoned by the way, and Elite, can't spot what the target is exactly from that distance, until the target fires off a round which disables the gun on my Tiger? My thoughts are that the field was wheat, which could be quite high thus obscuring the target?? But how come the Sherman V could get an accurate shot off at me? It's like LOS was blocked one way. Weird.
  22. Do you think it is luck as much as anything else that attributes to this though? For instance, a tank crew spotted this mortar and prepared to fire. In the mean time the mortar fired. The round missed. The tank then went on to destroy the mortar and the crew in one shot. They were placed in a similar position as the one that destroyed both Hetzers. Could their experience have anything to do with it?
  23. ..same here.. sent him a mail a day ago. No reply yet. He must be busy.
  24. I regularly call in arty if I have it available where I spot HT's or TD's. It works for the AI. Just took me back to see both my TD's get it from this single mortar. I haven't seen that before.
