  1. I haven't a clue as to what the possible cause is to this random lockup I keep receiving but when I got my colleague to host the game everything worked perfectly. We're now on turn 21 and haven't had a crash yet. Before hand I would go three maybe four turns and crash. You could guarantee a crash at some point. One thing that might be of interest. He uses a G3 and I use an Athlon Thunderbird. I can't seem to host without a lockup and he can. Weird? The odd thing though, even when I play the AI I have been experiencing crashes with this build, albeit one or two against the dozen or so via TCP. Food for thought. Ace game though, amazing against another human.
  2. I am using the 6.31 drivers as Madmatt suggested I do if I still had problems. Still hasn't made a differnce. I'm hoping I won't have to do a format C: here!
  3. Hello all, still having major lockups with this patch. Can't understand it. My specs: Athlon TB 900mhz 256MB Ram WinME DirectX 8 Geforce 2MX with 6.31 Nvidia drivers SBLive 1024 ISDN 128k My machine isn't unstable like this with anything else. I was using 7.17 drivers and downgraded, also upgraded DX to version 8. Even playing against the AI I can almost guarantee a system lockup resulting in a hard reset.
  4. Thanks to you both for the replies. I haven't tried CM using 7.17 drivers. As soon as I read the readme I downgraded. The only reason for me using 7.17 was to help B17II stability. The woes of this game... Boy oh boy. I think BTS should look after this one as well. As for over-heating, I hope not. I have a full tower unit with three fans. I haven't experienced lockups with anything else, not even B17II!! By lockups I mean complete crashes. You get I/O interferance if you try moving the mouse or hitting the keyboard which means the only option is to hard reset. I hope to play again tonight if my mate is around. It is fantastic, even with stability issues on my machine. I am putting this down to the graphics drivers. I will downgrade to the official release drivers. Once again, thanyou for your time.
  5. I think it's down to my machine and not my guests. I have an Athlon TB 900mhz running WinME and Nvidia Geforce2MX using 6.47 beta drivers. It states in readme that these ones are okay however. Prior to the installation of these I was using 7.17. I did make sure I completely erased trace of old drivers. First TCP battle tonight (Wow!! amazing game) with colleague and I've had three lockups in the space of an hour, rendering machine useless. Great shame. My guest is using Mac OS 9.04 on a G3. His machine has been stable to date.
  6. There are some great mods out for CC3. The Western Front one is in my opinion the best. There has just been some more work on it too. I like both games, but would vote in favour of CM nowadays. The cc series has lost the plot a little. It hasn't done bad though by any means.
  7. That is probably because you have the Pentium Pro. Makes the difference.
  8. Jesus, I thought my system was slow. I have to wait up to 10 seconds for the biggest scenario on my 900mhz...
  9. No, it was my mistake entirely. I rechecked the game as the Germans and they do indeed have two FO teams. One question about arty. I find that even when in LOS of my target that is say 500/1000m away and I get the blue line, it still takes anything between a minute to two to fire. Is this dependent on the quality of the teams? This is with 81mm rounds. I realise the bigger stuff takes longer.
  10. Interesting.. Looks like it was my mistake, at least the arty spotter that is. I indeed have come across another team. Funny though as I don't remember getting two teams when I played as the Germans?? I will double check this. I was just getting carried away I think. I was peeved that the AI managed to locate my guns early on and take them out. Always the way, as the 60 seconds times up you think you've got away with it, then all quiet, then guess what.. A stray round makes it mark.. Always happens to me! I'm not really leaping to any conclusion here, I guess the only one is that the AI makes such a good opponent. I'm used to the AI in games like Close Combat. See my point?
  11. You see this is what I can't work out. There were definitely no reinforcement arty spotters and I definitely eliminated the team. This leads on me on to my other findings. Also, and somehow, the AI manages to spot my AT guns when I have them more than 1000m away, hidden, and in dense woods. Then within what seems like an impossible time, ie, within the turn, he obliterates my guns with arty rounds. Go figure?? I can't see his guns. I realise there are all sorts of reasons for this, like FOW etc etc, but it seems highly unlikely that they could have been spotted so accurately, and so quickly. Either the AI is the best in the world, or it CHEATS. Maybe I'm a bad loser??
  12. I immobilized a KT with an 80mm arty round and popped him with a 57mm. Still a lucky shot but I tend to agree.
  13. Right, I can't work this out. I am the allies and I knocked out the german 81mm FO. I know for a fact I eliminated the team. I also know for a fact they only have one team in the game because I have played from both sides. So imagine my surprise when I press go and I get hit again by arty rounds. It was arty and not 81mm mortar rounds. This arty also continues for the rest of the battle. Must have been 5 or 6 turns. Seemed like hundreds of rounds, probably an exageration there but I was peeved to say the least.
  14. ..I wasn't very clear in my reply.. What I meant to say was I believe they weren't used as indirect fire pieces in such small area. If they were ever used indirectly they would have been way off to the rear. You would have them off map so to speak, which is where the off map arty comes into play.
  15. I asked this myself a while back. The M7, like other SPH's in this game cannot be used for indirect fire. The off-map arty strikes are there to represent indirect fire missions. Apparently this is how it was. That's what I was told anyway.... The spotters are there to call in the strikes.
  16. I salute you Jochen, you're obviously a very good player. I can't imagine coming out of that tank heavy op with the loss of only 5 tanks.
  17. Yes, thankyou to you both. I did a search and found what I was looking for.
  18. In the last battle I just did (Chambois I think). Tell me that this is the right vehicle here? It used it's 20mm to knock out a MMG carrier without any orders to do so.
  19. I have to say the results of this op seem to differ dramatically. My first attempt it at - Tactical draw. I played as the Germans. I was stupid enough to leave my Tigers unsupported on the main road in column and after the first turn two of them were immobilized by the Allied air support. I thought that they would get bogged if I stuck them near the wooded area. (My excuse anyway!) Come the end of the battle I had lost all but one of my Tigers to the Allied tanks and air support. End of the op they had lost 68 vehicles. I had lost around 50 if I remember right. My Tigers seemed too weak to me, but it was exremely point blank in some cases. It was literally first hit kill, regardless of tank type.
  20. As a matter of interest just wondered why BTS didn't include an Omaha type mission when they released the game. I realise it is supposed to be just after the invasion but it would have made a good addition to the list. I know you can download users scenarios but the engine doesn't really model the beach landings properly. Is this why I wonder?
  21. I was just wondering if there is a "definitive" mod or set of mods that we can apply to the game. I tend to download whatever I can find as it comes out but I notice that my BMP folder is getting out of control. Is this right?
  22. Sorry if this has been tackled in threads before but I am new to this game and forum. I've been reading quite a lot about this new patch. Can people list here what it is likely to fix.
