What needs to be changed about Operations?
Kingfish replied to Jeff Heidman's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I'd like to add one more to that list, and that's to allow the Op to play thru to the end regardless of whether the ojectives have been accomplished. It would be nice to have the opportunity to counterattack and regain lost ground. ------------------ Frag Hanoi Jane -

Possible Ambush Glitch--v1.05 and maybe more
Kingfish replied to John Kettler's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
John, I believe the gun crew acted properly, considering their experience. The first unit thru the gap was a Stuart, with the Cromwell trailing behind. The moment the gun fires it has lost it's advantage of surprise, so they decided, if we're only going to get 1 or 2 shots off, it's best to try and kill the Cromwell first (which is a far bigger threat than the Stuart). Too bad they missed Intelweenie, Congrats on your sig. I was blessed with my little Tornado on the 10th of January. He loves to sit on my lap while I play CM and laughs when I blow away John's ambushes ------------------ Frag Hanoi Jane -

Shug, Do you see the green stripe that runs across the back of the map edge? The one that says "Exit zone"? That means you have to exit in order to win. That means you have to advance! That means combat!!! So, I'll be waiting at the bridge for you, please don't be late. BTW, Doc had sent me an e-mail of your taunt in the grandcamp game. Hilarious!!! Typical you. Just a little friendly advice: be careful when you say you are going to moon him. He might take you seriously and ask for a JPeg. ------------------ Frag Hanoi Jane

quote:
Originally posted by Croda: I want to be able to tell the FO to disembark, and then target as soon as he is done disembarking. So he would get off the HT/Jeep/Tank, run to the copse of trees, and target the hill 1,500m to the north. This way, he doesn't get in position with 45 seconds left in the turn and just stand there. He begins to target and I can run some time off of the arty countdown. Otherwise, that 45 seconds is wasted and it will take an extra turn for the shells to drop because I can't issue the targetting order until next turn. Make sense?

Yes it does. As to why you can't, I believe the answer lies in something you said earlier in this thread:
quote:
In my opinion, once any unit leaves the confines of the transport, it becomes an autonomous unit again, and should behave as such, allowing both movement and targetting orders.

The problem (as I see it) is that, unlike movement, targetting requires a LOS input to determine it's effectivness. As long as a unit is embarked it loses it's autonomous status and thus it's ability to determine LOS to a target. ------------------ Frag Hanoi Jane

Croda, Just so I understand your question correctly, you want the FO to target while he is still embarked (but with disembark orders already given)? Or did I read that wrong?

Cheating, anything going to be done about it?
Kingfish replied to Apoc's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)

quote:
It's very easy to "cheat" someone when telling them the QB paramters. If your opponent tells you the weather is clear but you discover it is dark and foggy after you have already picked your forces, then you have been cheated. You will have picked forces that can take advantage of a clear sunny day (tanks, artillery, At guns, etc.) but he in his trickery is picking forces that can take advantage of foggy nights (Infantry with automatic weapons)

And if this was me the game would not progress beyond this point. I don't see how you can be cheated if the game hasn't been played. ------------------ Frag Hanoi Jane -

Kingfish replied to Apoc's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
A couple of more points... 3) Don't assume someone is cheating just because their game style is suspicious in your eyes. 4) If that lack of trustworthy opponents is a "glaring problem" then I have a solution. I have about a half dozen opponents that I play on a consistent basis. I can vouche for everyone of them as being very capable, very trustworthy opponents. Let me know if you want their e-mail address, I'm sure they wouldn't mind some fresh meat ------------------ Frag Hanoi Jane -
Greeting everyone, Question: How is it that I can embark a 10-man commonwealth squad and piat on the back of a tank, but can't fit 3 piats in a HT? The same hold true with the American M3 HT. You can embark a full 12 man squad, but can't get 3 zooks to load. ------------------ Frag Hanoi Jane

Under what circumstances do you split a squad?
Kingfish replied to 2B's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Yes, I noticed that after I posted here. I actually got the idea a long time ago from a post on the main forum, back when Reisburg and Last defense were our only scenarios to play. -
