1.
quote:
Most people keep their tanks in a standoff position with their infantry well away from them. That is to prevent close assaults on your tank. Good strategy

I agree, but i've also noticed that most people won't advance their tanks into that standoff position until their infantry have swept thru it, therby uncovering the very ambush you are trying to set. Consider also that even if that AT team was armed with self defense weapons its still only 2 guys with pistols. A tank-less crew can be as many as 5 guys, so you'll still need some kind of back up. Otherwise those AT teams will only be good for one AFV kill.
 2.
quote:
Is it my fault for not providing an infantry covering force for him? Or do I have a valid complaint?

IMO, both. On the one hand you should have given him some kind of infantry support. Afterall, you have no way of knowing if the next unit to walk thru your ambush is a Stug or SMG squad. But on the other hand I agree with you 100%, zooks should have at least sidearms for self defense. I've lost quite a few from the same situation you've described, and it's not just limited to zooks. Piats and Shrecks are just as vunerable. ------------------ ...This is Romeo-Foxtrot, shall we dance?...
 3. This may sound like a stupid question, but did you pad-lock the fortifications into place?
 4. Have you guys tried this test with trucks that are empty, or loaded with troops? Also Johnno, The level of experience will determine how *patient* your troops are in an ambush. Conscripts will open up at extreme range, while elite troops will wait until they can read the serial number on the dogtags. ------------------ ...This is Romeo-Foxtrot, shall we dance?...
 5.
quote:
Also, anyone know how to start a scenario with an artillery bombardment already underway?

The best you could do is have an FO target a TRP. You should get the rounds within the same turn. ------------------ ...This is Romeo-Foxtrot, shall we dance?...

 7.
quote:
Maybe in CM2+ when a frozen river is hit by HE, it could revert to a non frozen river section?

As long as a sufficient number of rounds fall in that section to break the ice, otherwise it looks odd to have an entire tile of frozen river revert to water with just one spotter round. Perhaps give each tile a damage value, much like houses. If any unit is caught crossing it when the ice breaks they are counted as eliminated. And if you really want to get clever have each round leave a water hole, as opposed to a crater. I'd love to see the look on Charle's face when he reads this one ------------------ ...This is Romeo-Foxtrot, shall we dance?...
 8.
quote:
what is the attraction to the Eastern Front that the Western Front doesn't offer?

You'll get to hear "Ow, my leg!" in Russian. ------------------ ...This is Romeo-Foxtrot, shall we dance?...
 9.
quote:
Not, definitely not the JT or Stug, maybe a Wespe though

Or...Hummel, Nashorn, or maybe even a Marder. ------------------ ...This is Romeo-Foxtrot, shall we dance?...
 10. TP_Bomber, You're not thinking of "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" with Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges, are you? IIRC, they used a 20mm AAA gun for breaking open the safe in that one. ------------------ ...This is Romeo-Foxtrot, shall we dance?...
 11. You mean to tell me that the Bro's down on 3rd street are selling Combat Mission? Why the hell did I pay $8 for S/H? ------------------ ...This is Romeo-Foxtrot, shall we dance?...
 12. Maybe the Barb wire was especially noisy, and you got a sound contact. ------------------ ...This is Romeo-Foxtrot, shall we dance?...
 13. It has to do with the internet service you have at home. I experience the same thing now and again on my home PC, but not here at work (T-1 line). Your post will show up as soon as someone else posts on the thread. If you have any doubts as to whether your post went thru just hit reply and review the topic, it should show up there. ------------------ ...This is Romeo-Foxtrot, shall we dance?...
 14. Here's a couple more Ops in which the German's are the attackers. They are all found on the CD: 1) Villers-Bocage 2) Arhnem 3) One more whose name I can't remember, but takes place in Arhnem, and depicts a battlion of Paras holding off the 9th & 10th ss Pz div. Anyone have the game handy? ------------------ ...This is Romeo-Foxtrot, shall we dance?...
 15. Just before the first of the ninth descend on Charlie's point, with "The dance of the Valkryies" blaring from the loudspeakers, Col. Kilgore toggles on his microphone and says... ------------------ ...This is Romeo-Foxtrot, shall we dance?...
 16. Speaking of lucky bluffs, for the last 4 turns I managed to hold off your Panther and Mark IV with only 3 badly shaken zook teams and an M4/76 with a damaged gun. Without doubt, one of the best PBEM games I've ever played. Edge of your seat from "Go" to finish.
 17.
quote:
- parked my right-flank infantry assault, in open terrain, right on top of a 150mm TRP. You can imagine the carnage that followed

30 seconds..."Yes, come a little closer"..."closer"... 20 seconds..."That's it, just a little closer"... 10 seconds..."Oh, right there! Yes, stop right there!... 5 seconds..."Excellent! Now everyone just bunch up. There you go, just like that"!!!... 0 seconds..."Merry X-mas!"
 18. IIRC, there is a scenario that gives the Germans a crack truck driver. I wonder how many pedestrians he had to run over to achieve that status. ------------------ ...This is Romeo-Foxtrot, shall we dance?...
 19. I see you're a fan of the movie too. Here's another sig from it, can you guess who said it and when? ------------------ ...This is Romeo-Foxtrot, shall we dance?...

 22. ******SPOILER******* * * * * * * Just commenting on a little oddity I found in an otherwise fantastic operation. In the scenario briefing it lists the German's initial forces as 5 Tigers, yet I started out with 6 and a few scattered Infantry units. No big deal, as I put the extra units to good use Also, Wittman comes in as a reinforcment in the second battle, even though he survived the first. I read the post from the designer explaining why that is, so I'm cool about that too. I will say this though, there is nothing like watching two Michael Wittmans, side by side, rolling down the main road with a half dozen crack Tigers following behind. Hats off to LOS for this gem. ------------------ Charlie don't surf!

 24. During a previous PBEM QB my opponent mentioned that, had he been given a Vickers MG teams, he would have made mincemeat of my infantry counterattacks. Later we started another game with the same parameters but switching sides. I then noticed that I also didn't receive any Vickers in my OOB. Now curious, I decided to run a little test to see how common Vickers MG teams were in randomly selected QBs. I started out at 700 pts, comb. arms, and allowed the computer to choose from the British, Canadian, and Polish armies (all regular infantry, no airborne). I then went to 800 pts and repeated, and continued until I got to 1500 pts. Out of a total of 18 setups I received a Vickers team only once (Canadians - 900 pts). Now, perhaps I didn't run the test long enough to get an accurate reading, or I had a run of bad luck, but it does seem odd to get only one from 18 tries. Has anyone else noticed this, or do you believe is it just a fluke? Also, twice during the test I came up with three Fireflys as my only AFV support! Your thoughts. ------------------ Charlie don't surf!
