If Bush wins, he will nominate Justices who are anti-abortion rights and pro-religious right. The Republicans control congress, and will not oppose nominations vetted by the religious right. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> That is what I ment by "Congress has final say". The Republicans control congress by a VERY SLIM margin and like I wrote above, a lot of them a moderates. Not everybody who is a Republican is an anti-abortionist and/or from the religious right! Just like not everybody who is a Democrate is a left wing liberal! <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Jeff Heidman: I hope for the day that the Republican party is no longer dominated by a minority of vocal and influential "moral majority" types who thik the job of government is to force everyone to think just like them. Jeff Heidman <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Now your talking about the Reform Party and Pat B. [This message has been edited by MadDog0606 (edited 11-08-2000).]
  2. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Maj. Bosco: Btw, does anyone else find it strange that the state where Jed Bush is governor and where Bush's campaign manager holds high office is the state where Democrat ballots are being lost and "mistakenly" counted as Buchanan ballots?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> How can that be when the Attorney General of Florida is a Democrat and in charge of the Democratic Machine in Florida? He's a lawyer and should know all the tricks!! Besides, who cares who wins? Both Bush and Gore owe big time favors and it will be goverment as usual. Personally, I'm going a kick out of what might happen if Gore does wind up with the popular vote and Bush might get the electoral vote. That ought to be entertaining for a while. I'm on the side of the person who gets the most votes wins no matter what party they are from. Majority Rules!!!! I just wish more people had voted.
  3. A post mentioned the US Supreme Court. Whomever the next US Pres will be, it is the US Congress who has the final say. A majority of them, whether Republican or Democrat, are moderates. So I don't believe there is going to be an extreme shift in the makeup of the court. The way the US Congress is shaping up the next US Pres will definitly not get his first pick passed. P.S. Like someone interviewed in Florida said "Your vote does count" [This message has been edited by MadDog0606 (edited 11-08-2000).]
  4. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Guy w/gun: Uh...cuz that post has 80+ threads... i wanted someone to actually read my post ad possibly offer an opinion...can i ask what was the point of you wasting time and posting your message Banshee? Don't mean to be an ass but I hate it when people post a message that is OT just to be a smart ass.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> How was Banshee being a smart ass with what I think is a legit question? If people are interested in the topic and they find your posts interesting they will respond to your post. All you did was clone a topic of discussion. You should have posted your "Flimsy German Tank post" in the thread where it belonged and not created a new thread on the same topic of discussion.
  5. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by coralsaw: Am I the only one who would sometimes like to watch the AI play both sides? Would be like watching a film and a darn good learning experience for newbies. It seems not too dificult to introduce an AI-hotseat battle, like other games. Come on BTS! In a future patch? Or maybe in CM2 then? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I really don't care much about AI vs AI but I searched through the forum and the closest I came to why this wont happen in a patch is the link below. http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/004075.html But if BTS changes the code (not a very easy thing to do and I know because I play a programmer in real life) it might get into CM2. But you need to ask BTS if it will get into CM2.
  6. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by :USERNAME:: Chutes and Ladders II: the reckoning<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Can you play that over the net? Also, did they base it on the movie or the book?
  7. I've already bought them: 1. Steel Beast 2. Combat Flight Sim 2 (WWII Pacific Theater) Now, mind you, I said I bought them, I didn't say anything about playing them.
  8. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by jshandorf: Also I only think there are a very few people here that take some sort of glee out of crushing someone's argument publicly, and personally I think they do it for that sake alone, which makes me sad. But alas.. I just avoid those people. Jeff <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Yes, you should avoid people who disagree just for their own personel pleasure and make no sense in their statements when doing it. But, if they crush your argument in a way that shows you were wrong in the first place (even if they have fun doing it) they still have served the purpose of showing that you were wrong in your thinking. You may not LIKE how they did it, but your knowlegde on the subject being discussed will have improved and you will have learned from your mistakes. And you will be better prepared the next time. Hopefully, what I wrote made sense. Don't get me wrong. I liked reading posts by Henri. I may not have agreed with some of the things he wrote about but they were stll informative. 9. I guess I should pay more attention to this forum and start reading all the messages and not just the ones I find interesting. In the particular thread that caused Henri to give up on this forum it didn't read like people were out for Henris' blood (so to speak). It read like Henri was loosing the argument. If a person has problems with being disagreed with in public (which is what this forum is) they should never start a discussion in the first place. There is always someone out there who will disagree with what you have to say (and I'm sure there will be somebody who will disagree with me on this). What one needs is an open mind and the ability for that mind to change. I've changed my mind about many things, just ask my wife. I know people who love to argue over anything and if you disagree with them they don't mind. That ability (the don't mind part) should be a pre-condition for posting something on this or any forum.
  10. I'm more then likely going to get stepped on for this, but here goes. I read the thread. I found it very enlighting. Some of it was over my head. It read like a (mostly) friendly discussion to me. So what if Steve got in to defend his game and to explain that it is a tactical wargame? The way I play the game is that maneuver is done by the time the battles in CM occur. It (the thread) wasn't going Henri's way so Henri left. The problem with some people (and I get this way too) is that they start discussions expecting to be agreed with and when that doesn't happen they get mad. Such is life. Now, since this is a Combat Mission Forum I would expect for people to look unfavorably on criticism of the game. But that is not how I read that particular thread. Henri was stating his definition of Maneuver Warfare, using CM as an example (among other things) and other people were stating their positions on it. I tended to go with the people who had military backgrounds since usually they are the ones who are the experts and they sounded like they knew what they were talking about. Henri was asked what his background was and I belive he never answered. My background is 5 years in the US Navy and I will NEVER, EVER get into a discussion of what is maneuver warfare. I just point the tank and shoot it and hope it hits something. By the way, I LOVE the spell checker!!!!
  11. German Squad Tactics WWII can also be found here, plus a lot of others. http://home.fuse.net/nafziger/books.html
  12. I must admit I play the German side more then the US side. I like the German uniforms and their tanks. US uniforms are so drab and the US tanks are so darn ugly. Although the German tanks can be out manuvered by everything but the British infantry tanks and their turret turn rate blows I still like the German tanks. If I'm going to get my ass kicked, I'm going to look good doing it.
  13. I usually don't play a game without at least one tank to back me up. But out of curiosity today during my lunch break I decided to "Go Without". I setup a QB, village, moderate woods, gental hills: US side(Me): (defense) one regular infantry company, 2 extra regular rifle platoons, 4 extra bazookas, one extra 50cal, and one 81mm spotter. About 1000 pts. SS German side(AI): Combined arms (attack) 2 late Stug III's, one PzIVJ, 5 Halftracks(251's), some motorized infantry, and some pioneers (the computer picked them). All veterens by the way. I know the computer is not that good on attack. But I wanted to see what would happen if I didn't have any tanks. I felt naked! I set up my zooks in the woods (within infantry support) covering likly avenues of attack for tanks (covering roads that go through woods, or at a bend in the road, or a clearing between woods). I set ambush markers and I told the zooks to hide. The German tanks were eliminated within the first four turns. I did lose two zook teams. One was lost while acting as target practice (not my choice) for a Stug (the Stug was killed the next turn by another zook. One zook was killed by the SS crew of the Pz IVJ (the germans ran, about 50 yards, striaght at my zook team and killed them). Two of the halftracks were killed by zooks, two by the 1911 and the 50cal, and one halftrack was killed by an infantry platoon I had move up behind the Germans. So it is possible to win without tanks. P.S. I sucked big time when I first started to play this game. I got some tanks and told them CHARGE! To my chagrin I learned that don't work. I had to throw out the tactics I had learned in the Steel Panther series of games. I had to read up on "Real World Tactics". I found some books on WW2 tank and infantry tactics, both German and US. I pulled out my Tacops3.0 pubs CD (modern tactics to be sure, but still tactics). And I read them. Now I don't do so badly. I'm getting the hang of correctly using zooks, infantry, arty, and tanks in a combined arms way. I still don't have the use of smoke down right, but I will get the hang of it. And one of these days I WILL be god of my PC and kick the AIs rear every time I play it, no matter what disadvantage I give myself. [This message has been edited by MadDog0606 (edited 10-09-2000).]
  14. In the process of buying TacOps 3.0 Combat Mission caught my eye and I downloaded the demo. I was hooked.
  15. Henri, I hope you were kidding about the biker part in your post. I've been riding cruisers going on 13 years now. And if somebody feels that they can no longer contribute to this forum any longer I say "Goodbye, and have a good life". I lurked on this forum starting when the Beta Demo came out and didn't post until the game started shipping and I've seen the change in the forum. So what? These things happen. New blood showes up. In a lot of ways new blood showing up is good. I try to help people when they have questions, when I know the answer (or at least when I think I know the answer). And I'll continue doing that until this forum shuts down (not any time soon). There are always going to be people posting stuff on this forum that a majority will object to. If I ran away from everything I disagreed with or found objectionable I'd be doing a lot of running, and I don't run from nothing.
  16. Got this out of "German Panzer Tactics in World War II" by Charles C. Sharp. It's an Armored Reconnaissance Battalion of a Panzer Division 1 June 1944. 17. I've played the tutorials in the DEMO. Going to start the missions over the weekend. My favorite part of the tutorials was the last one. I was viewing an enemy tank through the thermal sites (as the Tank Commander). My gunner was trying to kill this enemy tank (my gunner was as bad a shot as me). The enemy tank slowly turned its turret toward me and I see this object coming at me getting bigger and bigger and I'm thinking "Who threw the football?". Next thing I know I'm dead. I did order the game. I should get it next week. I'm a soft touch for war game simulations.
  18. Here is a long thread on the subject: http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum7/HTML/000135.html
  19. Oddball_E8, I had read some posts a while back about a mod to the game for the Russian front comming out. Have you heard (seen) anything about this? When I tipped over it happened when I stepped up the game speed and didn't pay attention to where my tank was going. I'm a wuss when it comes to the gunnery in PE. I could never get the hang of aiming the gun in realistic mode. And since I just wanted to BLOW THINGS UP, I went the ballistic route. Everything else I left in the realistic mode. I've played the game through as both the Germans and Americans about twice for each. It stayed on my drive until about two months ago. I'm tempted to put it back on just to BLOW THINGS UP.
  20. It's a blast to play. My favorite part is watching the turrets fly off when the tanks blow up. Oddball_E8: don't you just hate it when the tank goes turrtle on you? You can't go to fast cross country or this happens a lot. Also, unless some of your crew has good engineering skill your tracks wont get fixed. I think it takes something like a half hour to repair a track.
  21. Oddball_E8, Have you tried the mods for the game located at http://www.pedg.de/ . In particular the Beta4 British Armour and PEDG Installer 1.21 . For the life of me, I cannot get that thing to install correctly. If you are able to could you let me know how you did it. Maybe I'm just slow or something.
  22. Lewis, It's really not nice to talk about somebody who can't answer back.
  23. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Von Brizee: It's not his anti-Nazi stuff that bugs me, it's just his excessive finger pointing of pro nazis. I put in some sarcasm about my Volksturm grandfather being drafted to defend his town and I get called a Pro-Nazi because of it. The proper thing to do for all German boys was to desert and be shot by the SS. Or just hide in the basement while the Soviets come in, burn your farm, and rape your women? So I assume, by your logic, every poor Russian peasant that picks up a rifle to defend his farm in 1941 is a bloodthirsty Communist? If a poor Georgian's village was being burned by Sherman's troops in the US Civil War, and he goes out to fight them, then that Southerner is of course a rascist black-lynching KKK fellow? Appears like it's getting easier and easier to get a Phd nowadays by the looks of it, it seems knowing what the hell you are talking about is no longer a necessity. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Come on now, this is a touchy feely thread, your spoiling the moment. Now, it's my turn to spoil the moment. Doc, I don't forgive you. And I wont forgive you until you quit trying to force your moral STUFF on this forum and, by association, me. And not post your moral STUFF for a while, and just post about CM (please, oh please make it so). I'm half Italian, and the Italians were allies to the Germans up to 1943. So, I guess I'm a Nazi by association. You have insulted my ancestry. And we Italians have this thing about insults and grudges.
