  1. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Dr. Brian: Maddog, I'm glad you find some enjoyment, but I'm going to scare you now... There are millions of people outside "our" little war gaming world that think this way. Blame the liberal media if you want. Please refer to "One More Time" Thread. You may (or may not) find it funny. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> That's Maddog0606 to you Doc, only my friends call me Maddog. And the people your talking about Doc are called Crazy Dudes and Dudets. And no I don't blame the liberal media, I blame the people who read only the liberal media. You need to check out every side of a story to get a full understanding of what is going on. By the way Doc, you can't scare me. The only things so far in life that scares me is: 1. If I divorce my wife will she take CM, my dogs, and my motorcycle? 2. Take offs and landings of planes that I fly on. 3. Cars next to me when I ride my motorcycle. 4. Will Steve and Charles cancel CM2? Doc, your just entertainment for me. I can not honestly take you serious. I truely believe your just having some fun, just like me. Now, keep up the good work. I think all your threads should be combined because they degenerate into the same topic, "How many people can Doc infuriate in the shortest amount of time?". If we combine all the threads we may have a chance of passing the number of posts on the HAMSTER thread.
  2. Doc, your a funny guy, I like you! I really really do!! Your like comedy relief. Whenever I get bored I read the threads that you participate in. I guess I'm a weed (or is that a roach?). You make me laugh. To think that there is a person that exists that has your personality. My mind just fills with wonder and awe at your comedic timing. Whenever a thread is about to cool down you jump right in there and fan the flames to keep the show going. BRAVO BRAVO (standing applause). I, for one, hope you never leave this forum. Tell you the truth, it was getting kind of stuffy in here with all that talk about armor penetrations; MG42's; rosters; newbies; turrent rotation rates; texture mods; when CM2 is coming out; Do a search threads; Hacking; and, lets not forget, HAMSTERS. I told you that you could match my silly post and you did. Doc, you ... I'm at a loss for words. I have a hard time believing that you truly exist. I think your just some oldtimer of the forum having a little fun. [This message has been edited by MadDog0606 (edited 08-26-2000).]
  3. Come on people. If we can keep this thread going long enough we may pull ahead of that Hamster thread!!!! If we can keep up the message rate it will only take us 10 days!!!! Dr. Brian match this silly post, I dare you. You can do it. Just start typing some of that anti-german stuff your real good at.
  4. I like the beautiful images as things get blowed up. Duh. Your opinion that Dr. Brian is right is yours, and maybe a few others on this forum. It isn't mine. I'm happy to say that I am not an extremist or, I hope, a trouble maker. I take that back. I am an extremist, but only concerning CM. You say anything bad about my CM..... Well, just don't!!! Tell me, why do we have to make the Combat Mission game forum (the operative word here people is GAME) a political forum. Is it because of those elections comming up in the US? That always seems to bring out the worse in people. I have discovered in my travels through this wonderful adventure I call LIFE, that you do not discuss the following if you don't want to get people mad: 1. Religion 2. Politics 3. Taxes Now, if people insist on discussing this stuff on a GAME forum, I will be more then happy to have fun with you. Don't worry, you can not make ME mad. For some reason the only person in this world that can do that is my wife of 22 years. She has had a lot of practice and knows which buttons to push, you don't.
  5. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by WineCape: No pun or flames intended to Italians here but here goes: The thinnest book in the Rome state library is the "Citation book for bravery medals awarded to Italians during combat in WWII" A JOKE Gentleman, a JOKE!! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Don't sweat it. I'm not hurt. But then again I'm only half Italian. But you do have to watch out for the Portuguese side of me. That's where my anger comes from. 6. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Major Tom: Quality wize, the best of the best in Germany were better than the best of the Allies. This was probably due to the fact of a LONG military tradition (not necessarily blind devotion to Hitler). There were some great Allied formations, but, these never managed to be better than the best of the German formations. Sure, there were many cruddy German formations, worse than the worse Allied units.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> This is the kind of topic I wish this thread had stayed on. I bought "U.S. War Department, Handbook On German Military Forces" at Barnes and Nobles. This book talks about the training of the German army. And how the training was good all the way up until the last couple of months of the war. This book does not talk about who is evil and who isn't. And it is rather interesting reading. I lucked out in that I was looking for a book on tactics for CM when I came across this one. I bought it because I figured I wouldn't be able to find it again. If this thread isn't closed by the time I get home, I'll tyr to find the part that talks about German military training. Before people jump to conclusions. I am a Libertarian. And no, that's not a religion.
  7. I don't believe this. Two threads closed because of the Name Game. Are we working on a third now? I get it. We're going for a record.
  8. quote: -------------------------------- That would be not at all, right? -------------------------------- You making fun of me ? The Sherman does have a faster turrent speed (in the game) then the German tanks it faces. So if you have crews with equal experince spotting each other at the same time (say a Sheman 75 and a PzIVh) and the turrents need to be turned (both turrents have to travel the same distance) to aim at the enemy tank there is a good chance the Sherman will get the kill. You don't sit and have a slugfest between Shermans and German tanks. You keep those Shermans on the move until you can get a flank or rear shot at the enemy. 9. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by L.Tankersley: 2. Fun toys 3. The underdog factor 6. Ancestry. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> 2. I like the German equipment. It may be "a piece of sh*t" like Moriarty (the character in Kelly's Heros, not the poster on this forum) said, but I like their looks. 3. During the time period covered by the game the Germans do have a tough time of it. And I have this thing for underdogs. 6. Does having Italian Ancestry count? By the way, I do play as the Allies. I play mostly the US side. I've learned new respect for the Sherman tank when used properly.
  10. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by mensch: anyone figure if a hulled down rifle squad, has the same benifits as if they were positioned in a airballoon? I tried the Airballoon but they get shot down by the Itallian Mark 10 kitchen sink (model 10BV i think) every time germanboy you have any ideas how to beat that Mark10-BV? damn them crome cannons...<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> What!!!! You have the Itallian Mark 10 kitchen sink?. My copy of CM didn't come with that!!!! Hey, come to think of it. That shouldn't even be in the game. I thought the Germans made the Italians discontinue manufacturing of that at 12:05AM 1 December 1942. And then melted the left overs for the metal. Something about the the hole not being big enough for stuff to drain out. I don't have the German High Command Directive that this is mentioned in right now. But I'll try to find it latter.
  11. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Dr. Brian: Regarding the history lesson on Nazi German. Excellent, it is textbook. But many factors are missing. What is the personality of the German people toward the east? From the Teutonic Knights forward…. and I don't know what the "f" I'm talking about. I know more about it than you have in your pinky. But, I guess you know it all, eh? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Doc, can I borrow your pinky? Does it know how to programm in "C"? Can it get me a raise? Does it know any good Klingon jokes that I can send my brother? I owe him some. Oh, forgot, your pinky just knows about history. Forget I asked. But, just in case it does learn more about the subjects I asked about (especially those Klingon jokes), I'd still like to borrow it at a latter date. Ops, my mistake. I asked the wrong person for their pinky. Dumbo, can I borrow your pinky. I don't really want to borrow Doc to get what I want. Chances are he would make my boss mad and I'd get fired. Or my brother wouldn't like his Klingon jokes. Doc, at first I was irritated at your posts. But, now that I get a second look at them, I really have a hard time thinking they are serious and that you are trying to get peoples goat (by the way, don't touch my goat ). From now on I'm going to try to stay out of threads that you are in. But it may be hard. Because now I find you very funny and can not take you serious. 12. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Chupacabra: Argh, why throw more fuel into the fire? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I don't want to do anymore work, I can't play CM at work, and this seems more fun .
  13. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Dr. Brian: Mr PeniZ, My topics were 1) Hello, 2) Major howard, and 3) Fuzzy logic. You guys started it, so live with it. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Doc, I believe you have what I call "Selective Reading Disorder". You actually started the flamewar aimed at you with the blanket statements in your "Major Howard" thread. You seem to choose to forget that there are people on this forum who are decendents from those who fought in WW2. These people are good people (at least they haven't insulted me yet) who had nothing to do with what occured in WW2. I'm beginning to think that your Doc handle is just that, a handle, and not the real thing. You would think that somebody with the amount of education to qualify for the title of Doctor would have more sense. I have an excuse for the way I post to you, I don't have the education and the worldly views that you supposedly do. (I can't spell worth sh*t. That's why I'm a programmer. I can MAKEUP words.) 14. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Hitler: Hi, It is me, TankDawg. Do you think that some might find this username offensive?? Well, Dr. Brian finds the user name "Peiper" offensive. Do you have a better understanding now? Jeff TankDawg (i will never use this username again)<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Dude, get a clue. A name means nothing to me. It's the actions of the person that defines that person, not his/her name. You can call yourself Pol Pot as far as I care and I wont be offended.
  15. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Dr. Brian: Lighten up? Sheesh, Some people need to get educated more like it, and see WHAT they are glorifiying. No slant towards you, as I don't know your educational background towards this era in history. It's just a bit more "personal" when the nation calls you and your family "subhuman" and gears you for extermination after they extermianted the Jews. That's what THEY were fighting for. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> This one little item in this thread made me mad. Doc you need some education. Education in manners. It's just a game Doc. There is no need to insult people. I like playing the German side in CM not because of the way they acted in WW2 but because I like the look of their tanks and uniforms. Hell, if the British infantry had good looking tanks and uniforms (their paratroopers do) I'd play them all the time. Like I said Doc, it's just a game. If I wanted a history leason on how the German leaders engineered the attrocities that they commited in WW2 I'd go read a history book. By the way Doc, by lumping a group of people together and calling the german people as a whole racist, whats that make you? <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by TankDawg: Hey, Case in point. Check out some of the usernames right now on the "I have some German marching songs, who want them???" thread. And they all want Nazi war songs. Again, geesh! If this kind of stuff gets out, CM has a PR disaster in the making. I saw it almost happen on the ASL Mailing list a couple of years ago. Jeff TankDawg<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> And TankDawg, I can understand where Lorak is comming from. It's all how somebody reads your post. Read your own post. Since you didn't put any kind of indication in that post to show you were making a joke it looks to me like your insinuating that the people in those threads (which I was one of) are Nazis. 16. Check this site out: http://www.warbooks.com/musicindex.html
  17. Everything in the game has a purpose. I for one am in the so called vocal minority when it comes to crews being left in the game. Crews serve a purpose as a distraction for the other side. Same way those stupid jeeps do. If they are a green crew, chances are they will be routed the second their ride gets knocked out and will be useless for the rest of the game. If it's an elite crew and there is still one man left I'll use him as cannon fodder if I want (it's my game and I can do what I want ) and maybe he'll take a few enemy with him when he goes down for the count. Maybe he will even distract a tank long enough for me to kill it. War is not fair, you fight to win. Your tanks should have infantry support when they go running around the battlefield. That is one of the purposes of your infantry. Infantry is used to suppress antitank weapons (or the misplaced enemy crew ). If your tank as infantry support (like it's suppose to) then the tanks infantry squad takes care of the misplaced enemy crew and/or antitank weapon and your tank is not distracted. That Village Bogage (however you spell it) battle was a unique situation. You notice you have no infantry support at the start so your tank has to take everything on the battlefield seriously and kill it. Your tank gets distracted and dies, that's life. In the battles I play I usually don't let my tanks get to close to enemy infantry/crews unless I have friendly infantry nearby. I use to think tanks were the king of the battlefield and could win on their own. They can't in CM. Tanks get distracted (just like real life) and need support from infantry and artillery. I don't get it. Everybody was screaming for a realistic game. You got as close as one as can be had and able to run on different speed CPUs and graphic cards. Now people are talking about removing stuff (crews) because they distract the tanks from killing things on the battlefield. I for one would like more stuff on the battlefield. I would like to have animals in the forest to cause that green trooper to shoot off his rife as his squad is sneaking up to attack my MLR. But I can't have that, yet. Crews were on the battlefields in WW2. They were a distraction for tanks. During the time period covered by this game almost every squad had an antitank device. In the heat of a battle your going to tell me that you would ask questions first before killing something that isn't wearing the same uniform as you. I wouldn't care which direction the man or men are running, they are dead if they are not on my side and are within my line of sight. Please let me know how to tell, in the heat of a battle, if someone is carring an antitank device, I would really like to know. By the way, IMHO, I belive only a minority of the people who bought this game post on this forum. So, you may think your in the majority, but the real silent MAJORITY out there may just want the crews left in the game (as target practice). So the next time somebody writes that an item should be changed in the game by Steve and Charles because a majority of the posts say so, think again. That may not be the case.
  18. Hey Rommel22, I know of a site that has a whole lot of military marching music from different countries. From the 1800's to the present. Their on CD and cassette. CD's are about $20 and the cassette's are about $10. Let me know if you want it and I'll post the site. I'd do it know but I left the sites' PDF catalog at work.
  19. I guess I'm just a dumb old transplanted Oregonian from Virginia, but I don't see a problem with the ex-tank or ex-halftrack crews. You got FOW on. Your tank takes out a halftrack or another tank. The crew bales and heads for cover. Your tank then loses track of that crew. (Tell me, would you concentrate on three guys comming out of a knocked out tank or halftrack and running for the woods while there's other things bigger and badder trying to remove YOU from play?) The next time your tank spots that crew, your tank doesn't know it's an ex-crew from a burned out wreak but maybe a three man zook team or a machine gun team. That's why it says "Infantry?" next to it. Or you may know it's a crew because one of your infantry or another tank has figured it out but maybe one of your other tanks are slow on the uptake and don't know this. Hey, that's war. In WW2 the radios were primitive (by our standards) and not a whole lot of freqs were avaliable to go chatten on. Steve and Charles are doing the best they can with the resources they have. If one of you think you can do better(Lewis, I hear your name being called) put your fingers where your mouth is. Write up a spec. Submit it to BTS. Then ask them if you can help them programme the routine. Also, and this is a big also, you need to DEBUG the code, be ready to have it ripped apart by fellow programmers and the people on this forum and (unless your some devine entity or an alien) you get to start the process all over again because you will have coded it all wrong! You all think you can handle that? I sure as hell can't!!
  20. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by kunzler: "4. German Squad Tactics in WWII by Matthew Gajkowski. 5. German Panzer Tactics in WWII (by Charles C. Sharp)." Are these on the Web? Either way, _I_ would like to be pointed to these. Thx<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Go to this site: http://home.fuse.net/nafziger/index.html Click on the Books button at bottom of the screen. The books are for sale. Most for $20 each. I was a little leary at first to order. Called and ordered over the phone. No secure web ordering. Took a week from placing the order to when the books showed up in my mail box.
  21. WineCape, Most of the information your talking about is out there. Some places to start are: 1. http://www.siteonsound.com/CMReadingList.htm 2. http://www.gamesofwar.de/ The tactics section 3. http://combathq.thegamers.net/articles/articles.asp as aka PanzerLeader suggested If you can find some WW2 field manuals, even better. I know they are out there to be found because I found some. If your interested I can point you in the direction of the following: 1. American Tank Company Tactics (FM 17-32) Nov 1944 2. American Armored Battalion Tactics (FM 17-33) Nov 1944 3. Employment of Tanks With Infantry (FM 17-36) 13 March 44 4. German Squad Tactics in WWII by Matthew Gajkowski. 5. German Panzer Tactics in WWII (by Charles C. Sharp). [This message has been edited by MadDog0606 (edited 08-21-2000).]
  22. I followed the README file for installing the patch and the opening screen has version 1.04 displayed. You didn't start the executable for the game from the CD by mistake?
  23. Quango Since you seem to have an idea of what you want in a tactical computer wargame why don't you do this: 1. Write down the specs for the game (program) 2. Find some like-minded people with the needed skills (business and computer related ) to make the game. 3. Find some money to make and publish the game. 4. If you outsell both CC and CM games then your idea of how a tactical wargame should be done was right and BTS and Atomic were wrong. I'm getting real sick of this CC is better then CM and vis versa. [This message has been edited by MadDog0606 (edited 08-18-2000).]
  24. Here are some sites that helped me: http://www.gamesofwar.de/ (go to the tactics section) http://combathq.thegamers.net/index.html (go to the articles section) http://www.siteonsound.com/CMReadingList.htm http://etloh.8m.com/strategy.html http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/DL/chron.htm http://home.fuse.net/nafziger/books.html Hope this helps you and is not overkill on my part.
