What kind of general are YOU?
Gotcha replied to Panzer Leader's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I was most like my favorite Civil War general, William Tecumseh Sherman! This is a great site and lots of fun stuff -

Any of you CM fans pacifists?

Wow what a thought provoking topic. When I was a kid, I was into everything military. We played war games with sticks for guns and pine cones for grenades. I played many board games solo, because I couldn't find anybody interested in these long complex games. However, as I grew older I realized, as mentioned above, that I could get killed very easily and no matter what I did (on the battle field) my survival was only a matter of luck. I still enjoy war games, chess included, because of the strategy involved in solving the problem of beating you opponent. I am in awe of all veterans, because I know that I would never be able to do what they did to protect our country (and the world) from evil dictators. Just last night, when I was in my back yard throwing out the Christmas tree I imagined I was in the Ardennes on patrol. That must have been a terrifying experience. Every step on the frosty ground might reveal a hidden mine that blows you to bits or a German ambush. I do not know how the veterans and current soldiers do it. The fear must be paralyzing. -
New versions of The classic Demo Scenarios

I would like to get hold of the original scenarios. -
I really, really hate to ask this
Gotcha replied to GreasyPig's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Hull down is not a command. It a relative position between a tank and target (and vice versa). It essentially means the object looking at the tank only sees the turret. You accomplish this by maneuvering your tank using terrain to make your turret visible (and nothing else). -
I think an "easy" way to keep the attacker from using the map edge is to: set up a "buffer zone" on the map edges where the attacker's forces are not allowed to wander, but the defender's forces are allowed (and expected) to occupy. This could/would simulate the attacker's boundary with other friendly/attacking units. I believe this would elminate the "benefit" of running up the edge of a map and having one flank entirely secure. However, this "solution" becomes problematic for meeting engagements.

CM....How did you 1st hear about it?
Gotcha replied to Korps's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I was trying to keep up to date with TacOps and found that Tacops now "belonged" to Battlefront.com. This was about 1.5 years ago. CM won't run on my home computer (PowerMac 6500 from 1993). However, I do get to play very slow games using an "newer" laptop I have from work (Pentium 166). -
Has anyone else had the problem I am experiencing when replying to posts. I just replied to the "Free war training videos..." post by iggi and it did not show up. When I do a search under my username, the search indicates I made a post. But when you click on the topic, my post is not there. Any thoughts?

I was able to get the files to play after I downloaded the zip file. -
:USERNAME:, what is the URL for the website you mentioned above?

How did you guys first hear of CM?
Gotcha replied to russellmz's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I "found" Combat Mission while trying to keep track of Major H and TacOps. Gotcha -
I live in West Chester. I can only guarantee one turn per day. If this is not a problem then I would like to get in.

Cheapest, slowest PCs running CM?
Gotcha replied to patboivin's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I "play" CM on a laptop: DELL Latitude XPi CD 166 MHz with 32 Meg RAM. The turns crunch really slow and moving the around the battlefield is very jumpy. I cannot wait to get a better computer. Gotcha -
I would like to see an "SOP" option like in TacOps. Perhaps this is too much to ask for in a Patch. But would be nice to see in CM2.

Grafenwohr Scenario - Has Anyone Played It?
Gotcha replied to Gotcha's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Thanks Los. I will have to try the scenario after reading the info on Madmatts sight. -
Has anyone played it yet? I just finished it and ended up with a draw. This was only my second CM game. I was wondering how other people have done. The intro says you should be able to complete the mission with very little casualties. Needless to say that did not happen to me. It seems like a good scenario and has the potential to teach a lot about infantry (only) tactics. Gotcha

Still have not received my copy!!!!!!!!!!
Gotcha replied to Kuroth's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Sounds really familiar! I preordered in late May. I received an email telling me there was a problem with my credit card. I fixed the problem on June 19. I received an email from Steve telling my that my card was OK. My card was billed on June 20. I still have not received my CM. I think United Parcel Service (UPS) would have been a better way to ship. I have never heard of them losing packages. Also, they have instant on-line tracking of shipments.
