  1. JC_Hare, Well, I upgrade about every 1.5 years or more, when the performance gets from 2-3 times my present system. And for CMBB, if I can cut down the wait time for AI thinking phase by 20%-40%, its worth it to me. For CMBB turns, CPU speed does have a lot to do with it, not the processing speed of the graphics cards. I'll get the new system in about three weeks and run a test side by side with my current 1.2 gHz system and let you know. I'll go for the more expensive system, even though only 10-15% faster. That is what power users do. $$ has nothing to do with it. Who needs to eat? What a sorry lot we are. Hey, I used to spend 4K with no monitor in the old days. Whats 2.5K? Cheap to what I'm used to from the old system days. At least I don't buy monitors with a new system. I spent big bucks (2.6K) for a 21" years ago and used it for years on many systems. In the long run, it saved me money. Now I use a 42" HDTV flat plasma that went for 8K when I purchased it. So again, no need to get those monitors. Get a top end monitor and use it though multiple upgrade systems and you come out better in the end. As for graphics, I already have a Ti4400 in my present system. I'll get the 128M Ti4600 and then in six months, buy a new top end graphics card, which I tend to do every 0.5-1.0 years. Its a faster cycle than the PC upgrade cycle. Boy, do I have a pile of graphics cards in my spare parts cupboard! What I was after was advice on the memory type. I hear its fast, but there was a world wide recall recently and will be available again about a week. The Intel CPU also has me a bit concerned. I seemed to have less problems with the Athlon for some reason.
  2. Alright, CMBB BIG scenarios are too much for all available systems. But I still want to improve as best I can. Currently my AMD 1.2 GHz is not cutting it and the current system are more than 2x that speed, which is in my upgrade zone (2-3 x CPU performance). I just ordered the following system and hoping that the big scenarios will improve at least a little... CPU: Intel P4 2.8 gHz 533 FSB Motherboard: Asus P4T-533-C W/ on board NIC sock 4 Memory: PC1066 RDRAM 512MB (2Pcs 256) Video Card: eVGA GeForce4 Ti4600 128MB DDR Any advice? Any warnings?
  3. Is that leg twitching again? I thought someone said that horse was dead? Forget the stick, get me the shotgun. Steve, CMBB is brilliant and overall, the interface works great and meets your objectives well. Good job! So it will "never be changed" in CMBB. Granted. But any UI design should get user feedback on how well its been accepted or liked. You try to please the majority. Appears to me that you were successful. But for CM2 and ongoing work, you always attempt to improve. And that is done using player feedback (I hope). I don't like the new camera movement scheme and I explained it was due to the required attention to the mouse pointer. This is not just whining, its a feedback of why it doesn't work too well for myself. However, is it functional? Absolutely! Can I use it well? Absolutely! Do I love CMBB? Absolutely! Take note and move on. I'm not going to post anymore on this particular issue. My own opinion on the subject has been posted enough times already and I will obligingly shut up. And if I haven't posted it enough, CMBB is the hands down greatest tactical wargame accomplishment of the century. Be proud and please keep your policy of listening to player feedback, regardless how tiring the little whiners get.
  4. Wait, is that a leg moving on that horse? YES IT IS!!! (runs and gets stick) I don't think this is a good way of bringing this issue up again. Its really a matter of taste. Really. > WACK < I don't like the new camera movement mechanism either. > WACK < Don't know why it wasn't made optional instead of this "you will eat it or you will get nothing!" > WACK < I hate having to note the mouse pointer position. > WACK WACK WACK WACK < Not all of us like it. We who do not like it are not retarded, or physically inept. We love CMBB. Adore it! But having the camera jerk an unexpected way is WACKy. Okay, looks like the leg twitch is gone.
  5. Is that a mod? Don't you guys recognize CMBO anymore! I recognize almost every mod in that CMBO shot. (of course the interface is a dead give away) Hey, wait a minute. What is that screen shot doing here? Heretic!!! Must be getting lonely over at the CMBO Forum... [ October 06, 2002, 10:46 PM: Message edited by: kump ]
  6. I'll go back to CMBO if CMBB runs out of Russians. And from what I can read from the field reports, that certainly doesn't appear likely. Where the heck are the Russians getting these troops? They should have run out ages ago. I figured the 600,000+ we captured at Kiev was going to wrap things up. But they just keep coming! Where are these troops coming from? Tell headquarters this is going to take awhile longer than we first thought. Man, its getting cold. [ October 06, 2002, 06:47 PM: Message edited by: kump ]
  7. Yea, that's the idea. The more that get it, the more success for BFC, the more for the rest of us Applaus ist das Brot des Kuenstlers You heard the man, someone translate this for me. I understand Applaus, but I don't know if I'm really a Kuenstlers. [ October 06, 2002, 05:46 PM: Message edited by: kump ]
  8. Put CMBO in a cupboard somewhere? LOL! Its a CM site, not a CMBO or CMBB site. I will cover both, and no cupboards! Of course, most my time will be with CMBB because I'm an East Front enthusiast, but I won't put CMBO in a cupboard! Hey, that list is a preview. There are no links for it on my site. So don't go messing around the kitchen looking for CMBB links. There aren't any, not even in the cupboards. Work in progress.
  9. GJK, I already mentioned in my initial post the lists will be split up later. I won't do that until I have the full thing ready, and then the links on a site will be established. So its already in the cards. This is just a dangling non-linked preview list. Its not meant as the first version of the CMBB Catalogue. That is some time away. But I thought just getting a gander at the German list now without the mods would help peak interest in the game and help those suffering CMBB waiting blues. Its not meant to serve CMBB owners as a MOD Catalogue yet. I'll get to that. So I know its long loading. It won't stay that size, trust me.
  10. Silvio Manuel, It must be just you. Looks fine to me. Well, at least after I updated the page with your correction Thanks.
  11. The CMBB Mod Catalogue is work in progress, but since I finished the German base (no Mods included yet), I thought I would post the page for those poor sods who don't have CMBB yet and would like to look at the units. Also for prospective wargame buyers. Its a drool list. The list is HUGE, so if you have dialup, you are going to wait a long time for the list to load. When the CMBB Catalogue is to be posted, I will be breaking up pages like this one, which are too large. The Germans will be broken up into "Armor/Vehicle" list and a "Support/Infantry" list. You have been warned! CMBB German Unit List I also would like some feedback on the new larger format. Yea, it makes pages longer loading, but it should please those who wanted something a little bigger. Regards...
  12. I'm sure this has been noticed and it may be even intentional. The German halftracks are using "tank track" textures for the tread of their front tires, giving them a "see through" effect. Odd.
  13. Old Dog, Yes sir. I thought it may be better here than on the main forum. However, would be nice to get a simple BFC response like... "Got it" or "Noted" Well, I hope it gets in the next patch.
  14. The German 75mm Recoilless Rifle texture sets are incorrectly used for the March 43' switch. Currently: Jun/41 - Feb/43 = Dark Yellow texture set Mar/43 - May/45 = Fieldgrau Need to swap these texture sets to correct. Thanks,
  15. I like it. Lighter, but still subdued. Kept the height contrast. Good job.
  16. Michael, The number '6'? I picked a random BMP, it turns out to be the German truck = 12200.bmp So I modify the BMP by writing "Snow" on its door. I then save it as.... 12200 + 50000 = 62200.bmp Yes, looked strange. Loaded CMBB, setup snow map, set date to Feb 43' (grey textures), and viewed the model. There it was, "Snow" printed on the door!!! So my newly created 62200.bmp was used by CMBB for the snow texture. Same thing worked for tan. So... 12200 + 50000 + 100000 = 162200.bmp And that texture would appear March 43' or later with snow on the ground, validated by my little testing. 17. Micheal, My test is done and it works as advertised for textures. +50000 for Snow +100000 for post Feb 43' textures I wrote "Snow" on the side of the German truck texture and found the following worked fine. Truck Grey: 12200.bmp --- Winter: 62200.bmp Truck Tan: 112200.bmp --- Winter: 162200.bmp So my initial assumption was correct. Yea, yea, lucky guess And as per that 251/1, again, its two models, so you don't use the +100000 rule. This is true for most of the 251's (but not all). You can add 50000 to get the winter versions for each model. Hope this helps. [ October 02, 2002, 07:16 PM: Message edited by: kump ]
  18. Michael, The 251/1 you describe is not a single model, but a special case. There are two seperate models there, not one model with two textures. In other words, the 251/1 before March 43' has a unique model with only the dark grey textures. On March 43', CMBB switches to a different model of the 251/1 and its only tan texture set. [ October 02, 2002, 06:49 PM: Message edited by: kump ]
  19. Micheal, Hmmm... It may mean that models that exist before and after March 43' can only have one set of textures. So in essence, you can only have one winter texture for each model. --------------- Updated ------------ SEE FOLLOWUP POSTS +50000 for winter set, +100000 for tan set. [ October 02, 2002, 07:30 PM: Message edited by: kump ]
  20. March 43' is the switch over to the dark yellow/camo period. The winter mods should work for both sets, adding a 50000 to each. I can test when I get home, but I'm confident that it works that way. [ October 02, 2002, 03:58 PM: Message edited by: kump ]
  21. A follow up to Fernando's comment on infantry BMPs. Yea, 616 was pretty close. The actual number is 614! Not counting any of the unused infantry textures and you still end up with a whopping 607! You were certainly busy, weren't you Fernando! Beautiful job. That is certainly a lot of winter textures to do....
  22. MikeT, Before I blurted out the answer, I just tested it in CMBB and it works fine, though my early German infantry are now running around with big white squares on their chests when snow is on the ground! Woohoo! Add 50000 to the infantry texture. That is it. 9001.bmp ---> 59001.bmp for winter. Try it. Works great. [ October 01, 2002, 01:33 AM: Message edited by: kump ]
  23. Well, to tell the truth, I haven't played one game yet and I won't for about two months (though I still love the small tanks). I just completed an infantry bmp list, which was actually used to get familiar with the infantry types for the CMBB Catalogue! So until that Catalogue is done, no playing for me! Shame on you for enticing me with such an offer! Must resist the urge. Must do the work. Must endure the pain of no play until the task is done. Its called will power and the fear that the CMBB community will murder me if its left on the back burner...
  24. Yes, I love them and rather play with nothing else! Or until the other side starts showing up with the big heavy brutes. Then its time to bring out my big heavy brutes.
  25. Commissar, No and Yes. There is no official winter uniforms shipped with CMBB, as it was in CMBO. However, CMBB does use the same winter system as did CMBO, whereby MODers may add winter uniform sets that coexists with the summer/fall sets. If snow is used, the game will load the alternate winter set if available, else the summer/fall sets if not. Give it some time. I'm sure we will start seeing the winter uniform MODs hitting the internet soon enough.
