  1. Gunslinger, Its good to see your post! As the famous "dark side" prophet, you already have quite a fan club. Welcome back!
  2. russellmz, Unfortunately, you can't control what tree is drawn where, so you will find the "thinning out" not uniform. Some places will be just as thick as before, unless you do multiple trees. Then you start having big vacant areas. Tricky. Another solution is to get Tanks A Lot's tree mod when he is done. The trees make spotting troops in the 3D view a lot easier. From the preview, it looks that way anyway. Looking forward to it.
  3. A Long Winded Introduction of WHY THE MOD... While playing, I noticed I was getting a wee annoyed with the map. I would be in the 3D slanted view (views '1' - '5') and I wanted trees. When I went to map view, I do not want trees, for they block the view of my troops. The tree bases are all you need! I kept hitting the "Shift-T" key several times to clear the map. Then when I got to the down and dirty view, I had to hit the "Shift-T" key again to get my pretty trees back. And so it went, back and forth. It was real fun. Then a thought sprang into my head, though a rare event that may be  You can easily make a texture transparent and it was done several times in CMBO mods to get rid of tree bases and so forth. But why not get rid of these top-down map trees so I can use those top views strictly for planning and plotting? And for goodness sakes, leave the tree settings alone at the setting I like and get all that tree goodness in the 3D view, but change to any of the top down map views, the trees are removed from the map! I quickly made the top-down map trees transparent and tested it out and no more hitting the "Shift T" key for me!!! The picture shown is with extreme trees. Just click on the picture above and it should download the file for you. You can also get it at CM Oupost main news page (link in my sig). It includes top-down transparent trees for summer, fall, and winter. Also, for you catalogue snoopers, the CM Outpost news page shows any new entries to the CMBB Catalogue, so it can be a quick place to scan and see if any mods may have slipped your attention. Good Night!!! [ October 26, 2002, 01:47 AM: Message edited by: kump ]
  4. Good, because oft time I think folks over board with the wear and dirt part. I can see the dirt on the screen shot you have and it looks excellent. Not over the top. Looks exceptional. Is the air recognition swastika optional?
  5. SurlyBen, According to what I have read from MadMatt, the skies have indeed changed. You now have a seperate east and west texture and a third used for north and south. You have to be very careful how it lines up, so skies are going to be a little more difficult to do this time. Means the old CMBO textures will not work very well. This is word of mouth. I haven't looked into it myself yet.
  6. Thanks Tom! Just saved me $40.00 because I don't have to register audioedit. For just converting files for sample rate, it was a bit extreme. I'll give it a test run tonight. Thanks again!
  7. Someone remembers? Yep, Magua introduced it on his halftracks, I literally begged for more, Marco delivered with the Shermans, and Gordon picked up the torch and continued it. Those snowed on tanks are legend. Magua is still in touch, just very busy. If he gets a chance to mod again, we'll see it. But I heard rumor these folks have real lives. I hope its not true, but that's the rumor. I certainly hope this time around they get more playing time. Ooops. MOD Slut blasphemy! Sorry, didn't mean to say that.
  8. I have had good fortune playing new music files in CMBB if the wav file was already 44.1 KHz sample rate. Converting 22 sample rate files to 44.1 Khz at 128 kbps bitrate without the chipmunk (faster speed) effect was a lot more difficult. I tried several applications and none of them worked very well. One only converted to 128 Kbps bitrate, one attempted to change to 44.1 KHz sample rate but increased the tempo giving me the chipmunks What I found was that you have to put in extra $$ to get what you want, I guess. The free MPEG Suite didn't cut it. I found AudioEdit Deluxe 1.5 worked for me (after trying several others to no success). Its conversion routines got me what I wanted, a starting mp3 or wav file of 22 KHz sample rate that could be converted to a 44.1 KHz sample rate wav and keep the same tempo, so you don't get the chipmunks. It worked great. The application can be downloaded for a free trial period ($40.00 to register it) at... http://www.harmony-central.com/Software/Windows/audio_editing.html There is also a great WWII Song Site that has a wonderful set of files which include many mp3 files already at 44.1 KHz. These convert very nicely to wav files at 44.1 KHz sample rate which CMBB wants, using the free MPEG Suite. There are plenty of other audio editors out there, so do some more shopping and maybe you can find a good shareware alternative with a much lower cost. PS: I was amazed at the "professional" editors, costing from $450.00 on up! Big time MIDI setup. Not quite what I was looking for. EDIT: Your chipmunk is due to CMBB playing your converted 22 KHz sample rate wav file at 44.1 KHz sample rate, which doubles the playing speed. A sound editor, such as the one described above, will show you the current sample rate when you open a file. After converting the file with a 44.1 KHz sample rate, play it within the editor, and if correctly converted, it won't sound like chipmunks and CMBB will play it just fine. Boy, talk about being long winded! [ October 25, 2002, 02:49 AM: Message edited by: kump ]
  9. Hmmm... I would say that many have been working on mods for CMBB for some time! Well, not mods. I mean, look at the manual and the credits! You have Fernando, who did the infantry uniforms. You got Bergman who did those cool minor nation tanks (rivets and all). Gordon doing a lot of camo work. Makjaeger is in there too! They already have their stamp all over CMBB. And Magua is playing CMBB, maybe something from him later. Tiger has already donated several CMBB mods. Scipio is busy with winter uniforms. Actually, just because you don't hear from them doesn't mean the old greats are not doing some projects for the undeserving MOD Sluts around here. Some of them, like DD, I haven't heard from in awhile. Who knows, CMBB may bring them out again. But we have some new talent around too! And Tanks a Lot!!! Man, did you see his trees? We NEED those. Woods that are easier to spot infantry. And Gordon showed off his own stuff (dirtied Tiger and SPW 251/1 with swastika air recognition panels). There's some good stuff coming. And new models and eye popping textures from CM 1.01 patch too! By the way, graphics for the CM patch is coming from several of those you listed, so consider the patch a monster mod if you will, as far as graphics go. It also means that they are very busy. Heck, we have patch 1.02 coming sooner or later! I'm also sure that the old modders may be a little bit needing a long break from modding and playing for a change, as you noted. They deserve it! But I want those trees. And if Gordon is listening, as I brush off my knees, snowed on vehicles would be nice. [ October 25, 2002, 02:52 AM: Message edited by: kump ]
  10. No, he would not say it that way. It would be more correct as... Is more powerful dark side? No. Easier, quicker. Fun, full of it is.
  11. Michael, I've never had that problem. Anytime reinforcements appear, I make sure no unit is selected and hit the '-' (minus) key. That selects the last unit, which is the reinforcement. You can then scan and spot the colored box, or better, you can hit the 'tab' to jump to the reinforcement entry point. Then continue hitting the '-' key to walk up the reinforcement list to see what you got. My procedure is '-', tab, then '7' to get a map view and better see the reinforcement entry point in relation to my front lines. The colored box will be around one of the reinforcements and with unit bases on, you should get the picture pretty quick. EDIT: Dang it Silvio, you beat me to it once I was typing. Guess we agree:) [ October 24, 2002, 11:35 PM: Message edited by: kump ]
  12. HA! I agree with that. It does imply delivery service! I'll just change the title a wee bit...
  13. To... Scott B Wild Bill WWB Kingfish Stix Kinch Rune Franko Mad Italian Smitty ACTOR jwxspoon Buckeye Ro Capitalistdoginchina Rocky Dingo A sincere and appreciative Thanks! And if anyone else doesn't know why, suggest you play more. [ October 24, 2002, 11:24 PM: Message edited by: kump ]
  14. Except the Patch 1.01 changes MadMatt posted, the Csaba will have a new model and texture. So look forward to getting the patch once its released.
  15. Yes, because the wav file you are using is recorded at a lower sample rate. CM plays the wav at 44.1 KHz, so therefore, the lower sample rate recorded wav plays much faster. The following is an excellent site for WWII songs and most are of the 44.1 KHz type, so they play quite nicely in CMBB. http://digilander.libero.it/adol/musiched.htm [ October 25, 2002, 12:14 AM: Message edited by: kump ]
  16. Will get slaughtered by my horde of units in the next big battle! I like the change of pace myself. Large battles, Small battles, even Tiny ones. Don't take my word for it:- "Its not the size that counts, its how you play it." (envious CMer) [ October 24, 2002, 12:33 AM: Message edited by: kump ]
  17. I don't think the patches will include winter uniforms or winter vehicle textures. The community itself will have to be delivering those. Bring them on.
  18. You have to consider the time period. In 41', there was less tools for the infantry to use and it depends more on luck that grenades will at least immobilize a tank. There are tank hunter teams to help. Satchel charges are still deadly to tanks, so tanks should avoid pioneer/engineer squads. Later years give more tools you are familiar with from CMBO. In CMBO, when you order an infantry unit to approach a tank for the purpose of an assault, this would result with the tank creating distance and your squad squating in the open doing nothing while the tank fires at it from a safe distance. The follow command allows the infantry to assault the tank by following it and keeping the distance close enough to continue the assault. Its best used when the tank is buttoned and is just passing close by. You can then follow and continue throwing molotovs or grenades while the tank may be unaware and engaged with another target. You certainly hope it doesn't notice the assaulting unit, because those MGs are nasty.
  19. Nah, just a fresh cup of coffee, that's all! Agh, the excuses. CMBB has just earned my due respect over the past few weeks and on top of that, its more fun. Kudos to all that worked on it. The round table discussions resulted in a CM that's even more fit for the grogs and the masses. The grogs because its more realistic (within the confines of the CM engine) and the masses because its fun. Just wonder why some feel one negates the other? It don't. Its fun. Its FUN! You hear me? I'll tell you why! Because having to use realistic tactics is fun! Using combined arms is fun! Having things work the way you expect is fun! Its... its... Oh man, I was going off again. No more coffee today for me! I'll shut up now.
  20. zukkov has it right on. The infantry is not weaker, no matter what you read about CMBB. The other assets, such as MGs, have been updated to be more realistic, suppression increased. Infantry is just as strong as ever, but you better rethink that tactic of rushing those few infantry units across three football fields of open ground directly at that machinegun to take it out. May have worked in CMBO, but not in real life, and not in CMBB. You can still take out that machinegun with the infantry, but your going to have to do it with a plan this time around. Like artillery support, smoke, close support tanks, covering infantry suppression fire, using cover effectively, and so on. All of this has just become more important in CMBB to get the mission done. A curse to some, a blessing to others. I think the majority see it as the later. Defense is now rewarded for good setup and proper planning. Attack is now rewarded for good setup and proper planning. Hey, that suits me just fine. And this idea where some say CMBB is more realistic but less fun? Bush rockets! What a load. The more realistic, the more fun! CMBB is more fun! Its harder on the attack. More fun! Beta testers said it feels more like the real thing. More fun! Have to re-learn from my comfortable CMBO way. More fun! Its not West Front! So what! Its more fun! No shockwaves! Don't matter, its still more fun. My troops hit the dirt a lot! More fun! All this is goodness. Taking WWII reality seriously in a wargame is not making anything less fun to play. The user interface is basically the same wonderful one from CMBO, the game play of WEGO is the same, all that which made CMBO fun to play is still the same. And on top of that, its more realistic to boot. Good stuff. More fun! What was the question of this thread? Oh, yea, I don't think the infantry is weaker at all.
  21. Agreed. Playing early war Russians can be very tricky and challenging. Just what I would expect. I commend you for taking the early war Russians. By the time your playing late war Russians, you will think they are supermen. Sometimes with the early Russian infantry, taking just one objective is a victory unto itself.
  22. My observations is that psi does not change when snow is on the ground, regardless which models historically had the track extensions, so it appears they are not taken into account. German thin track high psi vehicles better stick to roads.
  23. Though I've always wished "bogging" was one of those realism things that were optional in CM and can totally understand your ire (I share it), I've learned to live with it. Reality sucks sometimes. Are your units not starting "fixed in place"? If so, its your fault. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have posted in this case anyway, so then either the scenario designer has intentionally added a large variable where you will not get those assets active or could be just plain sloppy scenario design. In either case, if it bugs you, move on to another scenario. There are already almost a hundred of them and a ton more to come. Good luck just trying to keep up Alternatives: 1) Use scenario designer to move the tanks where you want. 2) Give yourself a bonus and you may get additional tanks outside the scattered woods, but may be too much a push over. 3) Play the other side [ October 23, 2002, 09:55 AM: Message edited by: kump ]
