  1. Ooops, went too soon. 1) What are the Battle Types for CMBB? Same as CMBO? 2) What are the Force Size selections? Same as CMBO? Thanks,
  2. Nothing to be concerned about. That was just a confirmation of your order and it being charged. Everyone got it. Some company online orders also send an email when they ship the order, so you know its in the mail system. BFC does not. You have to wait until enough time has gone by that you are sure it can't be in the mail system (some Post Offices can be mighty slow) before you start working with BFC in finding out what may have gone wrong. You should wait. BFC being pounded with hundreds of emails because of eager players who can't wait a couple of days does not help. 99.9% will be due to US postal woes. BFC's order system has changed from CMBO. They took pre-orders a lot latter and I'm sure they improved those things that caused fault last time. Especially on making sure they have enough copies on hand to meet initial demand
  3. catnip, My order number is 80+++ (ordered September 7) and I did not get my copies today either, even though I'm on the east coast (NC). Still a bit too early to be concerned, but when I pre-ordered CMBO, I had to wait several weeks because BFC lost my order between the place they charge the card and the place they actually package. They showed the order sent to the warehouse, but the warehouse did not show it being shipped. Ergo, lost shipment. Finally Steve (a true gentleman), through email, straightened it all out, though several weeks for an east coast pre-order seemed a bit excessive. I was literally dying with all the Forum talk about it! I hope I'm not being singled out for misfortune again. Sometimes you just feel fate likes to play tricks with you. Happened once, could happen again. But I won't bother anyone for a week. Just like I wished for CMBO, a mail confirmation email would be helpful. I had to wait "for the postal service" before hastling BFC about it. Would have been a lot faster if I could have told them I never received a shipment notice. Oh well. Not this time, please, not this time. PS: I still have Steve's two year old e-mail apologizing for the whole mess. I can never bring myself to delete it. Don't know why I kept it, but if I have to send another email to BFC, you can bet it will be attached with a "not again???" I think it will be all okay this time. Way too early to cry. - sniff - But why can't I be one of the lucky bastards that get it within the first few days. East coast, pre-ordered right after announcement. Dang, I'm just one unlucky dude, unless its a bad accident or something. Can't seem to miss out on those... [ September 24, 2002, 05:55 PM: Message edited by: kump ]
  4. I wish Euro players would stop characterising and grouping USA players as being West Front fan-bleebs. I'm sorry, but I was born in England and raised in the good ole US of A and I'm an East Front fan, through and through. This idea of trying to personalize it is a little thin, but even USA players can find some connection to the East Front. The cold war left us patriotic ones defining communism as "evil". Okay, play Germans and try to hold back the Red Army! Defeat communism. You even get some cool tanks to boot. There, good enough reason to identify. Now shut up and play. Call me a WWII fan, because I like West Front too. I want a CM that has it all baby! From September 39 to August 45. From Africa, to western and eastern Europe, to the Pacific. Oh hell, throw in the war in Spain for good measure. Five CD set with a WWII Chronological Atlas on the fifth CD. Free one year subscription to "Battlefront.com Times" also included. Yea, that's the ticket.
  5. I know your not taking patch requests, but your bound to get some begging. So much attention is on the big guns (IS-III), but I'm really looking forward to the little one, Pz-I B. I'm hoping a future patch is going to give it the model and textures it so well deserves. I know you can't get all in the next patch, but don't forget the small less glorious vehicles! Thank you so much for the decision to duplicate models and textures instead of dropping them. Its that decision that further proves you have our interest in mind, not just making the bucks! BFC has our gratitude.
  6. Interesting read. However, could you repost your trench question on a new thread, because it is so hard to spot with all that camouflage
  7. Looks great with IE Lindan. Can read all the text easily. Great looking site. Especially like the bottom right corner graphic. May have some reorganizing to do when the mod load gets bigger!
  8. Fantastic news! And give this a deserving bump before it vanishes amongst the "I GOT CMBB IN ********!!!!" threads.
  9. Actually, its not some new players in this case. But before someone accuses me of being resistant to change... Working on a project that encounters some real difficulties due to a build environment, I needed, rather demanded, changes. I spent many hours in front of other developer groups pushing my change proposals. It was incredibly difficult, for these folks were so comfortable doing it one way, they could not accept a change. Well, too bad. I made the case that the current system was not sufficient. It finally was changed, and I had to do it (just finished this last week as a matter of fact)! I don't mind change at all. I love it. Any change that improves my efficiency and productivity is a good thing. This is how I approached the CMBB interface change. Give it some time. Test drive it. It may indeed be for the better. Change is good. Except in my humble opinion, in this case, it wasn't for me. Everytime I think I got it down to an art, a fumble would occur. I find it very disturbing for me to have the interface do something unexpected. I want this feedback to be noticed by the BFC powers that be. I want others who are also disturbed by the change to speak up and be counted. Maybe, just maybe, something can be done. Maybe not. I'll accept that. In the end, I still have the greatest wargame ever created by mankind soon to be in my possession (come on mailman). My little interface annoyance is just a speck in comparison to my admiration to the accomplishments of the entire staff of BFC in regards to CMBB. The entire package is something to be incredibly proud of.
  10. Michael Dorosh, For one, I'm not dumb. Well, maybe just a little bit. Hmmm... maybe a lot. Oh heck, I am dumb. But irregardless, calling folks dumb because of their making an issue of an interface change they do not like is, well, dumb. How can there possibly be an error? Who said there was an error? We know the "love it or leave it" emphasis you keep making. And we understand that we can't leave it (no rational wargamer could), so we have to learn to love it. HOWEVER, we can post on this forum our little displeasure with an interface change that for a few of us, is not totally agreeable. So what? Believe it or not, BFC and BTS listens to user feedback, both the positive and the within reason negative. You can call it whining if you want, but you made your point that you like the interface change and you can't understand us who do not. Good enough, the extra stuff isn't necessary. Changes like an optional mouse move method may never come in a future patch, but just a small chance of it happening makes this thread worth while. From the dumb one.
  11. No. He's not. The new system is clumsy in comparison. I really don't get why people don't have problems with it. Give it some time. Like two months? That is not very soon. I've given it two weeks and I've gotten pretty good at it. But once in awhile, I get miffed, annoyed, perturbed, misoriented when the view goes horizontally racing when I wanted to rotate. I'm certainly hoping it becomes second nature. And it definately isn't the type of thing to sour the wonderful experience of CMBB. I just found the new requirement of noting my mouse position not to my taste. But just like spinach, I learned to like it after awhile.
  12. I'm with you Scipio, In a word, cripes! I've tried many times to like it and get used to it with the demo, but it still annoys me. I get real good at it, but once in awhile, cripes!!! I didn't think the old way was "broken" myself. Its just one of those things I guess we are just going to have to get used to. What appears to be an interface improvement in one person's eye is a detriment in another's. If it could have just been made an option in an .ini file or something. Oh well, too much tremendously good stuff with CMBB to let this taint my appreciation of it. But... cripes!!!
  13. Pvt. Ryan, Hmm.., I can't agree with your post. When Madmatt is speaking, he is speaking on behalf of BFC, since he is a BFC employee now. From my understanding, CMHQ is an additional private matter of Madmatt's that he has graciously tended to and kept available, but I'm sure he also has to tend the BFC web site. So if Madmatt says there won't be a hotkey for grid lines in CMBB, well, its more than likely true unless Charles latter gets an itch for it (doubt it). Folks will need to install a grid grass mod. No big deal in my opinion.
  14. First of all, I think the demo gave me just enough to give me a flavor of the new graphics for units and terrain. It also gave me an intro to the new commands. It may have been better served by including a “Meeting” engagement, but over all, it serves its purpose well. The way I feel about the graphics is, well, great job. Yes, its not the next generation (CMII), but its a big step up from CMBO. The attention to detail and the new 3D shapes is just fantastic. I’m back to drooling over the vehicles like I was when CMBO first came out. But what really blows my mind? CMBB is just enormous compared to CMBO in range of units and amount of bmp’s. The number of vehicles (300+) and the incredible number of additional units (600+) puts me in a state of great anticipation. I don’t think people realize just how much work this must have taken. Even without an engine rewrite, this was a monster of a job. And from what I’ve seen so far, a tremendously well done job. Now the engine might be the same, but an incredible amount of work went into the new additions, both graphical and game play. The new graphical effects are a boon to CMBB and puts it beyond CMBO reach. The new muzzle flashes, moving trees to indicate wind strength, buildings that show level of damage, terrain doodads, new building floor graphics, bullet impacts around target, sparks when rounds hit tanks, better infantry graphics and models, different infantry graphics for trooper/platoon hq/company-battalion hq, and a host of new terrain types. So before someone attempts to throw the graphical look of CMBB at me as being dated, know that I believe your opinion is that of a raving lunatic. For myself, I’m simply in heaven. Go to view ‘1’ in “Citadel Schwerpunkt” and walk the steppes of Russia. It drips atmosphere for me and its something I won’t be able to get enough of for some time to come. As for the new game play options, just who wouldn’t love that? From death clock, covered arcs, shoot and scoot, hull down, and, and all that other stuff. Its just one big bag of CM goodness. I’ll be playing CMBB for the next several years, constantly. There is just nothing like it to be found anywhere. Finally, I have my East Front game as I have always wanted it. I won’t be just playing it, I’ll be living it. They say, love it or leave it. I’m loving it, so I’m keeping it. So I guess my opinion is leaning towards the positive
  15. There I was, hanging out at the CM Outpost, and a messenger delivered me a letter. It was transfer orders to CMHQ. Well, you know how it is. You don't ignore the Brass. Mess kit and bed roll packed, I'm now wondering the halls of CMHQ trying to find what is what and where is where. My these halls are big! Looking forward in contributing to the CMHQ site, the premier of all CM sites. CM Outpost will still remain open and you know I have the CMBB & CMBO Catalogues to do and upkeep. Make sure you keep up your frequent checking of CMHQ, the web site central for all things CM!!! [ September 03, 2002, 09:22 PM: Message edited by: kump ]
  16. There you again lcm1947, You need a good dose of CMBB. Its to the East Front with ya. Once you sink your teeth into what the East Front is all about, you will wonder how you ever got the idea that most folks favor the West Front. Good gosh man, 41 to 45!!! Its drool time! As for the mods. They can't come fast enough for CMBB. I pray for snowed on textures all around. I haven't seen any snow version textures in CMBB screen shots, so my bet is that it needs doing. I'm not a violent fella, so I'll just turn my back so I don't have to watch. Delay CMBB indeed!
  17. Sound advice Most reviews I've read has suggested to stay away from the MX cards. Any of the GeForce Ti cards will be much better. And yes, if you have an AGP slot to use, then by all means, get an AGP card (better interface) and keep those precious PCI slots open for other things that can use them.

  19. Okay, your silly I don't agree with you there, unless we are talking a young inexperienced crowd with no wargaming experience and only Hollywood movies for any kind of WWII knowledge. And even that crowd, I think, would soon love the Eastern front as well. Call me silly. In simple terms, the east front gives you a lot more tools and toys. Its fun to play either side, fighting against the evil Nazis or the evil Communist. I'm sure CMBB will "convert" many west front favored entusiasts to the east front. Wait till you get CMBB and get some playing time. Personally, I hope CMII is not West Front again. It would be such a small thing covering 1944-45 after the release of CMBB. Med (including Italy) covering the entire war is more like it. Maybe they could include Europe West Front with the Med package as well? But I'll be waiting feverishly for a CMII East Front version for sure.
  20. Welcome back Steve. Yes, CMBB plays as CMBO, but has so much more going for it. Come on, its 41 to 45, more of everything. There is plenty of discussion and previews of the CMBB around. Should give you some idea. As for the Peng thread... Sometimes bad growths just won't ever go away, no matter what you apply to it. Its an institution now, so the rest of us live with it and tread real careful, in case we accidently step in it.
  21. From Tom himself! Thanks Tom. If you noticed, all the sky shots of winter include your Ardennes mod. Why? Best damn winter terrain mod I have. I just love it. A classic mod. Speaking of such, if your street fighting (city) mod gets done for CMBO, I want it bad. The pavement bmp of the Ardennes mod was very good and a hint of what could be done for such a mod. I hope CMBB doesn't put a nail in it, for your fans are still going to want it.
  22. A bump... But also, I noticed that there will be a need for MODs for CMBB right away. All winter shots show the same summer textures. Just how long do you think folks can live with that? Will CMBB come with winter versions right out of the box? I don't think so. So just in case, I kneel at the Gordon Molek altar and pray for those snowed on mods of the CMBB originals. May they arrive in time before my first summer campaign ends... Better have an extra gig or two put aside for CMBB mods.
  23. This is the first and last post on CM Forum about any updates to the MOD Catalogue. For those who would like to keep up with what is going on with the MOD Catalogue, you will find the latest additions on the CM Outpost home/news page. For example, tonight six new screen captures have been added and the CM Outpost home page has the entry... Catalogue Update: NEW Andrew Fox's Version 2 German Kubelwagen (3 pics) JorgeMC's SPW 251/1 Halftrack (1 pic) MISSED blzbub's Real War Faces (1 pic) xavier's less fire and more smoke explosions (1 pic) The above text on the news page will have links to take you to the appropriate pages. That's it. Check once in awhile and see if you missed something. Its better than traversing through the entire catalogue. Later. [ August 16, 2002, 09:29 PM: Message edited by: kump ]
