  1. Matt, I happen to meet another "MadMatt" over SFC forumn. "He" said he is not the same person as you. SS Zaku, Da ya have any relations with the "Zaku" in "Mobile Suit Gundam"? If so, what is the model you are driving? Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"

  6. Hey, I thought P-38 in PTO was mainly used by US Army Avaiation. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  7. Slappy, agreed. F-4U Corsair was known to the Japanese pilots as "The Whistling Death" for they were fast and deadly -- the best energy fighter in PTO. For the case of P-38, the extended range and maneuverability earned her name "twin-head devil". Hey, but where is my turn?! You wanna surrender? ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?" 8. About question 1: Japanese had been using live human subjects and civilans on poison gas and biological warfare by their notorious Unit 731. The "tests" were conducted mainly on the northeastern China provinces. The victums inlcuded also British and American POWs. X-Files season 3 has an epsiode entitled "731" to remind the US audiences that the US government had employed these Japanese "ex-scientists" and "doctors" for developing their chemical and biological warfare programmes after the war. About question 2: It was the Japanese who did that first. About question 10: Zhukov was sent to deal with IJA advancing into Mongolia in 1939, and won at a terrible loss to both sides. Since then, the IJA had to maintain a large number of troops in the northeastern provinces of China to guard against possible Russina attack. He was latter summoned back to the Northern Front around Leningard during Operation Barbarossa in 1941. Question 15: The first US invasion against Axis was dated as early as May 1942 when the bombers aboard US carriers sank some Japanese small ships in the port of Tulagar on the island of Guadalcanal. After the battle of Miday, (sorry forget when) the US marine landed on the island and took the only airstrip from Japanese hands and renamed it to Hendersen Field. Question 20: When the US decided to show her determination and ability to attack after the Peral Habour, Doolittle led a number of B-25, launched by the carrier USS Hornet, bomb Tokyo as a surpise raid. The lone USS Hornet penertrated the Japanese sea defense. The bomb raid was successful, though not much in terms of strategic sense, and most B-25 went deep inside China behind the Japanese lines. The polots returned with the aid of Chinese guerilla force. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  9. OTOH, I remembered seeing a Sherman with rockets tubes on top of her turret from the opening sequence of TAO by SSG. Any idea what kind of mod was that? Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  10. To whom it is concerned,, I have emailed to the author about the suggestions last weekend but there is no reply just yet. Too bad, I think we have to wait. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"

  13. I have some doubt about it. F4F Wildcat served aboard on US carriers through initial Battle of Coral Seas, Battle of Midway and a series of battles around Guadalcanal in 1942. The Wildcats held off the Japanese advances and of course, the performance difference made their losses pretty high. However, the attrition rate of IJN aviation was so great, the Japanese lost most of her experienced pilots. When F6F Hellcat came into service in 1943, the IJN had to recall most of her fornt line pilots to retrain the green cadets for the loss was just too high to affoard. Worse, the F6F, while looking almost identical to F4F, outperformed Zeke San in most aspect, except in terms of firepower (Zeke San had 2 20mm cannons). F6F, while it was a pretty good "turn fighter", she was also a capable "energy fighter" too, but may not be as good as F4U Corsair. Of course, when the Japanse began to equip Ki-84, that was another story. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." 14. Holdit, Sadly, Col. Koltz's site was in Sweden. You know, US lawyers are pretty powerful and fearsome. Well, you can see how these people affect the outcome of US presidential elections. That is one of the last things I want to mess around with. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  15. [sweating] the word "not" is omitted by human error and sink that Japanese fisihing boat. I heartly apologize the error made. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  16. Call in the "CMBorg" NOW!!! ...(slience)... Where is CMBorg when you need "him"? Arrah! You are playing that SFC2.0.0.5 again?!! Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  17. Ladies and Gentlemen, I would suggest that we should remove all references to "that famous board game on WW2 tactical combat" (TFBGoWW2TC) in your future map and scenarioes. Exsisting ones should also have these references removed asap. I do *NOT* represent or affliate the maker or parent company of (TFBGoWW2TC). I am just one of the many who enjoy all your passion, labor of love and hardworking all along. I write all these to preserve the enjoyments freely on our most favourite computer wargame. Thank you very much for your kind attention. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?" 19. I read it from HPS mailing list (yes I am an active listener to that one ), is it official to post it? Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  20. Thanks for the info. I have never seen real snow all of my life. I got the idea from the messages discussing "Road to Moscow". (Anybody remember this vaporware?) I think 1941 was at least worst in Russia. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  21. A lot of grest points mentioned, but let me add a gain of salt: I see that was not collaspe but loss the initative. After Kursk, the Soviets took the initative on attacks, ie when and where to attack, while the Germans were busy plugging the holes in the front. The strategic picture also got worsen when the Americans and British won the Desert War and knocking at the backdoor of the Riech -- Italy. Polically, if Italy was invaded, Hilter would lose his political prestige among his allies. No, many of the best German troops survived Kursk like Wittman and Peiper. However, the loss of strategic initative made it a worse diaster than Stalingard -- where the German 6th Army was destoryed together with over 1 million men. In many post-war books, German generals blamed the lost to Hilter, who was, as already mentioned, a easy taget. However, as Steve of BTS pointed in another thread, the General Staff was totally irresponsible. They planned an operation, but they did not plan what to do next or worse, when their plans went fubar. Take Operation Barbarossa for example, they only thought about a quick victory but no contingency plans were made if the fightings would extend till winter. To make things worse, they were hit by the worst "General Winter" of the 20th Centry. As other posts point out, one of the worst mistakes made in Russia was a political one. At first, the Russian, expecially the White Russian and the Ukranians who hated the Communist regime, welcomed the arrival of the German "liberators". Soon, as "cleansing" of Salvs, communists, Jews and local officials were executed, the locals learned to pick the "less rotten orange". Not really, the chaotic situation of German High Command contributed more to this. Take Kursk as an example, it was postponed more than 3 times giving the Soviets enough time to prepare rugged defense for the Germans to walk into. Rommel made a remark that "The last idea who entered the Furher's room was usually correct". One point I am quite sure is: most formations before Kursk did not receive replacments of losses and were usually worn down until disbanded. This may as well created an image that the commanders ignored human losses. Nope. Take "Operation Mars" for example, it was one of the catascopic defeats for Zhukov. The Red Army were over-extended and lack supplies. German were able to retake Karkhov which led to the eventful Battle of Kursk. Take the destruction of German Central Army Group in 1944 was a very good example of maneuver. The author of "Panzer Battles" Von Mellinthin commented that the quality of the Red Army varied from one encounter to another. Sometime, they showed good determination but on another occation, they flewed right on the sight of Geramn. I am not a gorg so if there are any helpful remarks, please let me know. 22. Thanks for the encouragement. First, I just have the scenarioes, most of them I think. And as I have previously pointed out, I don't have the full list and I have no maps in my collection. Worse, I mix them with other scenarioes I have to take time to sort them out. Second, it is more important if I am going to host it, I don't have my own web site yet. I have yet to find a free hosting site. I personally don't mind setting up a site I have to pay for it. Sounds like I am a little too serious. Hum. Thridly, I have not word with any other parties yet but there may be, hopefully, something going on under the carpet and if there is anything I can contribute I would be grateful to do so, even though I may not be hosting or making any decisions and so on. Lastly, if things are going well and we are able to reincrante it again, we may have to remove all those stupid, possible, infringements from the scenarioes before they can be posted "safely" again. I am still watching my mailbox and this thread. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  23. I am sure I have "Calvary Hill" which I think is the last one before it shuts down. If any arrangements, we may do it through e-mail, the use of encryption is advised. Griffin.
  24. Does this mean we are unable to reincranate the site with another form? Goosh! This is terrible! I smell some conspiracy theory is working right here. Is there any way we can contact Col? 25. Okay, I am willing to run my first website for this community. In fact this may be the first web site I setup without getting paid. Any chance to connect with the Colonel?
