  1. A good question. One possibility to simulate their lack of radios is to penalize them with an additional delay time. Making all russian tankers Conscripts or Green is not a sounding solution, specialy for QBs. Again I won only the silver medal. 'tis is strange: The third post in three days were I was beaten by one minute. [This message has been edited by Schugger (edited 09-30-2000).]
  2. I vote for the Mark III H. I'm sure anybody playing the germans will prey for them in early russian scenarios.
  3. I've recently visited the Remagen bridge ( or what is left of it)and the museum there. Of many intersting things in their exhibition there was one that strikes me: The german Luftwaffe made intense bombing raids for several days to bring the bridge down, and that was in march 45.
  4. "Wrumm, Wrumm!" ( Panther rolls over Soldier) "Ahhh, help me! Mami!" ( Suddenly the noise of someone coughing in the background followed by an hastilly but futile attempt to hide the toys under the table) " It's ok, Markus. I haven't see you playing."
  5. I think the pilot has decided that the airbase is a much safer place after encountering such heavy AA fire. A quote from the manual (p. 85):"...Heavy AA fire can make a planebreak off it's attack early..." What I would like to know is, if the expeiance level of an FB makes any difference when it decides to break off or continuing the attack.
  6. Hehe, "holy Hull Down CM stamp" Pillar, it is really a bit of micro-management. When I plot the last ditch of my hunt order to get the sacret HD status, i do not make it so that the path goes over the crest but rather to the edge of the crest ( when you can understand what I'm rambling about). If you plot the hunt order to far and your tank doesn't immediatly spot the enemy tank when it comes into view you end up as King of the Hill, for a short time at least.
  7. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Pillar: Could anyone suggest a technique to figuring this out? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Try it with view setting 1 and look for elevations. When you are to engage an enemy tank and your tank is behind a hill for example, use the hunt order for the last ditch of your movement to the hill's crest. Usually, your tank will stop and engage when the other tank comes into view.
  8. Hi there Well, I'm quite satisfied with the performance of my sharpshooters. I usually deploy them behind the main body of my troops so that they keep a good distance to the enemy. I rarly use them for scouting as they seem to have excellent spotting abilities if they are just hidden in a good position with panorama view. For combat purposes, I let the sharpshooters stay hidden and assign targets to them manually otherwise they waste their ammunition very quicky. Priority targets are, of course, TCs and they perform very well against them. Even if they don't manage to kill the TC they seem to always force a button up. This makes them invaluable as you can quickly exploit that advantage by moving one of your tanks against the one that just had buttoned up. Do not waste your sharpshooter's ammo on squads, platoon HQs or MG teams especially if they are moving. They do a fine job in surpressing units, so if an enemy MG unit is denying the advance of one of your platoons spend one of your rounds. Hope this helps to some degree
  9. Sheesh! Once again beaten! I start to eat my dictionary. Mr Johnson is really "heavy on the wire"
  10. If I got this right it is the positioning of your tank at a position something between " 10 or 11 o`clock" to a threatening target. It offers more protection ( due to the angle) as facing it head on. I don't know if CM simulates this though.
  11. When I read the thread before it was locked, I thought the boy was making a joke. He could not be soo smart, could he?
  12. Has anyone mentioned the fine Cafeteria they have? Don't get me wrong, but after you are halfway through their exhibition, you will surly get hungry and find it much to your liking. However, be sure to visit the WW1 trench before you have lunch.

  14. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Kingfish: Markus, After the last couple of games with you I don't think I could be considered Big Brother...more like Big Target <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Hmmm, let's see: Smouldering wracks of the 2nd SS in Chambois? - Check! Sturmgruppen ( or should I say Fluchtgruppen?) running away from the field of our last QB? - Check! One lousy 250/9 in exchange for a super- brandnew-fastmoving-like-hell Greyhound? - Check! Does this makes me the "Black Man"? You may wish to take advice from Obergeschützrohrmeister Doc "Arty" Freyland
  15. Sergio How does it come that I feel like Big Brother is watching me?
  16. Chambois A very "tank heavy" scenario, but very balanced for a PBEM. It is on the disk.
  17. Coax and main gun share the same optics. I 'm pretty sure of this with the german Zeiss optics and I don't think it is different with the allied optics either.
  18. I don't think the HQ`s boni work like that each "pip" increses the squad's experiance level. I would prefer a Veteran platoon with a no bonus HQ each time over a regular one with +1 in each command aspect. I've also found out that it is very important to keep the squads in command range of their HQ even if they don't have any command boni. Their delay is much higher and they act very badly to enemy combat actions ( sometimes a loud " Booh!" is sufficient to let them take cover). I have to say that I'm somewhat unhappy that the command ratings of each HQ are determined randomly in QBs and aren't reflected in the HQ's point value. They do have a serious impact in the game.
  19. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Combatboy: Seems like the sharpshooters are really weak. I only use them as scouts anyway, what else do you use a guy with 10 shots for? One time though I killed a tank commander with one, so I am willing to admit being stupid about them. How do you use them?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Well, you'll may guess it, there are one of my favourite units in CM. I was a bit disappointed when I put them first into use when they went through their ammo within a few turns. To hide and issue the target orders directly to them may do the trick here. Also, do not waste your ammo by firing at enemy squats, better preserve it for high priority targets like TCs and FOs. They are also very good in surpressing units. When you need to rush a platoon to a certain position and the line of approach is unfortunatly covered by a MG42, one shot with your sharpshooter will usually do the trick and force them to take cover.
  20. You might wish to check this thread. http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/003880.html Panzerleader gived a list of the most common abbreviations used.
  21. The allied 76 mm gun can deal with Tigers well frontally as they don't have sloped armour. However, you need to hit the Panther`s turret to penetrate it frontally unless you use tungsten rounds, of course. Perhaps this is the reason behind why those AFVs with the 76mm gun don't use their tungsten rounds against Panthers as they can penetrate it's turret at a distance over 500 meters. Post testing edit Well, 500 meters isn't a sure bet with the 76mm gun vs the Tiger's turret as it has an 11° angle. But I've found out something of the tungsten issue: The M18 never used any tungsten rounds against the Panther ( which was without any ammo and digged in) at a range of 500 meters. It got an " Kill: OK" report when targeting. Then I made the same test with a Jagdpanther, and guess what happened? The M18 used tungsten rounds for for any shot in any testing run I made. So the clue behind the tungsten rounds is maybe, if you have a good chance of killing with normal AP no tungsten is used, otherwise it is. 22. From "Das Boot" Man 1 with Hamburger accent: " Du? Sog mol, haste eigentlich Hoore in die Nose?" Men 2 " Wieso?" Men 1 " Weil ich hob welche am @rsch, die könnten wir donn zusammen knoten."
  23. That is really amazing what you folks manage to dig out I'd made some testings with a 50mm Pak and a Churchill VII ( without ammo ). You might imagine how many " Plings" and "Plongs" it took before something happened. However, the building were the Pak was located did not take any damage and it was a light one.
  24. It is an abbreviation for Salute! We used in in our Panzer Elite online unit, just to get into the mood and not for being trendy When you say "Alaaf", that will make you trendy.
  25. *Scratch head* With all those mods I've installed I'm not sure if the Stug I mean is still the one from the MDMP 2 pack. It is that one that has a metallic look from the distance.
