  2. I think the "original" '44 pattern uniforms are BMPs 5001-5009 and 5062. Just copy them back directly from the CD. Or download and use the weathered allied uniform mod on CMHQ.
  3. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by David Aitken: So you think BTS have modelled Polish and British troops as cowards, and anyone wearing an American uniform as a bulletproof hero? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Well, if you say so. All, I'm saying is that I basically use the same tactics with my infantry with one country as the next. And with similar experience levels. So what I'm saying is that the American troops don't seem to "crack" as QUICKLY (<-Keyword here.) as do British and Polish troops. I mean, how can one mount an assualt if your infantry start fleeing and routing when they get the first shot fired at them? ------------------ "Rule#3: You must be a member of my Meta Campaign to take part.(doh!)" - Rob/1
  4. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by CaSCa: I'm running a T-Bird 700mhz w/128M pc-100 ram and a TNT-2 Ultra with 32meg. The game ran like a cheap pair of panty hose out of the box but I did notice a difference after loading all the mods. (As noted before, it was the grass, which makes sense because it is probably the most rendered texture.) The game still runs fine though and with the 1 gigahertz t-birds under 300 bucks there could be one in my Christmas stocking this year. I'm trying to hold off on the ram upgrade in the hopes of doing the DDR thing, but I may break down and spend the bucks on some pc-133 dimms. I've also seen SDR Geforce I cards out there for 150 bucks or less, which would be a good upgrade if you can't afford one of the high dollar cards.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I'm thinking of upgrading my Celeron 433, 128MB PC100 DIMMs, 32MB TNT2 Ultra, SBLive! system to a AMD Duron 700, 128MB PC133 for around $350. Gotta get a new AMD motherboard of course, so that's a good half or so of the cost. There's a relatively new computer shop in town run by your typical computer hardware geeks that I went and talked to a few weeks ago. They said a 700MHz Duron ran better than a 1Ghz Athlon because the Duron has full-speed cache when the Athlon has half-speed cache or something like that. I probably need to get a second harddrive because my little 13GB drive is all filled up. I don't have too many games on it, it's just all the damn mods for each game that takes up space.
  5. I think you all missed my point. What happened was this... I attempted to run an entire platoon from one treeline to the next. They came under fire (crossfire, I think it was) from an unbeknownst position and they took very limited casualties, they turned tail and FREAKIN' ROUTED!!! I mean, not PINNED, CAUTIOUS, or even PANIC, they freakin' ROUTED! BTW, they were at least REGULAR or maybe even VETERAN troops and they still ROUTED! Now you tell me that there isn't somewhat of a nationality or quality programed into the behavior of these troops. I've also noticed that British troops do the same thing quite often as well. Ironically, the Free French seem to fight better than even the British. Maybe it's that they wear the same uniform as the '44 pattern American troops. You think? ------------------ "Rule#3: You must be a member of my Meta Campaign to take part.(doh!)" - Rob/1
  6. We need a couple of these on the CM battlefield: That new 700MHz Duron is looking better and better everyday. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 10-28-2000).]
  7. I played "Cambois" this afternoon, Polish vs Germans, and boy do the polish infantry troops suck or what? I mean they turn around and run when they just get shot at. Needless to say, the company of men I had was about useless. Of a squad that had 10 men, when they took a couple (2) casualties, they freakin' ROUTED! I had to do everything with my tanks and scout vehicles. Anybody else come to this conclusion?
  8. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Tiger: a poor screenshot because it's using the game's print screen utility instead of hyper-snap. Explosion effects by me -johnS<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I use Print Screen all the time and get perfect screenshots. Must be your video card.
  9. Well first, I think the Scottish militia should raise their kilts and flash their groins at the English Army. Then in reaction, the English Army looses arrows in an initial "artillery" barrage. The Scottish militia then raises their shields in defense. Several die when the arrows penetrate their arses. Then they rise. The English Army then sends in their Heavy Cavalry. The milita wait patently as the cav approaches, and then at the last moment, the militia's front line raises a wall of sharpened poles and impales a large amount of the cav. The remaining cav is then cut down by swords. With this humilation, the English send forward its infantry. In response, the milita starts a steady run at the English infantry. As the two close, they both set out on a fast charge. Two great armies clash and when it's all over, the militia has killed every single English soldier. Oh, whoops! You meant WWII CM Meeting Engagements! Oh well, that was a mighty fine Meeting Engagement if I do say so myself. ------------------ "Rule#3: You must be a member of my Meta Campaign to take part.(doh!)" - Rob/1 [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 10-27-2000).]

  11. Dammit, Andreas, you beat me to it. CM2 will be released the same time CM1 was released---"When it's ready." ------------------ "Rule#3: You must be a member of my Meta Campaign to take part.(doh!)" - Rob/1
  12. Hint to get rid of pixelation Do a Gaussian Blur on the skylines. Then sharpen it a bit after that. Unfortunately it blurs the horizon tree line a little, but who really looks at those closely. I cleaned up Gunslinger's clear sky bmp and it looks a lot better by applying the above method. Tried it with the overcast sky and it didn't work right. ------------------ "Rule#3: You must be a member of my Meta Campaign to take part.(doh!)" - Rob/1
  13. Better foxhole graphics and representations. The foxhole graphic in CM now is shared with some particular-sized crater. What we need is a some-what 3D representation of foxholes. Also, and I brought this up to CM back before the Gold Demo, we need industrial style buildings. How can we recreate the siege of Stalingrad without factories. One more thing, partially demolished buildings. To create those city battles with lots of bombed out buildings. Oh yeah, for the Eastern Front, we definitely need T-34s. Can't play the Red Army without T-34s. ------------------ "Rule#3: You must be a member of my Meta Campaign to take part.(doh!)" - Rob/1
  14. Well, I'll have to admit. And I don't usually do this, but those trees look AWESOME. Honestly, I thought Gunslinger's trees were a bit TOO toned down. But your's look about right. ------------------ "Rule#3: You must be a member of my Meta Campaign to take part.(doh!)" - Rob/1

  16. Actually your troops don't even have to be on the wall to shoot out. Just target an enemy and if the line turns black/red, then you don't have LOS. So just move your troops a little closer to a wall.
  17. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Rob/1: It will work becaues 2#All the people on one side will have the same password!(dah) <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Rob, that still won't make it work. CM's PBEM structure is not set up like that. It really doesn't matter what the hell the password is, when you send a PBEM file, it needs the opposing side to issue orders, watch the movie, or whatever.............. OK, I just thought it out. Even if you send the same file to multiple people, and then each person does their orders and then they send that file to all the opposing people (commanders), each file from each person is only gonna have one platoon's worth of orders. There is no way to combine PBEM files, which is what would be needed in this Meta Campaign. So the way I look at it, and all those that carefully read through my above explanation will see that this Meta Campaign format will not work. ------------------ "Rule#3: You must be a member of my Meta Campaign to take part.(doh!)" - Rob/1 Is that anything like, Rule #1: "You must breathe to stay alive."?

  19. Hey man, I never said I wasn't. It takes years and years of practice. Also, I call'em like I see'em. ------------------ Coming soon to a web near you... 20. I have to agree with jshandorf. This whole disembarking thing seemed to have changed with v1.05 patch. It seems now that the ONLY time troops will disembark is after the vehicle has stopped moving at the end of its movement order OR if the vehicle is stopped and hasn't been ordered that turn. It used to work like this: You plot movement orders to both vehicle and passenger. And then pause the vehicle longer than the passengers command delay. It doesn't seem to work like this anymore. ------------------ Coming soon to a web near you... The Maximus CM Mod HQ This site will be host to a plethera of mods from myself and others. 21. I too appreciate the level of maturity on this board as opposed to several others I've been a member of. A lot of other boards will not allow ANY sort of Off-Topic subjects or even posts. I guess they're afraid that people may mention a better game than what they're offering. I love all of you too, especially Rob/1, in a kind of comical way.
  22. I here-by announce that it is no longer a mystery. Rob/1 IS an idiot. Now go ahead and padlock this puppy. But seriously, L.Tankersley had a legitimate arguement. So the question here is Overcast weather considered Clear? ------------------ Coming soon to a web near you... 23. I don't know...I tend to agree with 'M Hofbauer'. All this sounds like is a totally blown out of proportion PBEM game. If you think PBEM is clunky. WAIT A MINUTE!!! How is this going to work? How are you gonna send PBEM turns around to everybody for them just to order their platoons. I'm sorry, I just don't see how this is gonna work on a mechanics level. I understand what Rob has in mind, but how to implement it is something else. In my mind, there is no way to do this currently. For one, CM is a TWO player game. The only way I see this happening is if all the players on one side are at the same computer. And that, my friends...AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN! I say all of this without knowing the mechanics of Fionn's CMMC, so I my be totally off base here, but this is how I see it. ------------------ Coming soon to a web near you... 24. Call me stupid, but what .bmps are the smoke graphics?
