  1. You have the enhanced smoke. You either don't have it turned on or your video card does not support it. Toggle through the smoke selections by cycling through [shift-I] from None, Fast & Compatible and High Quality. If you have a Voodoo 2 card, then that's the problem. Those cards don't support transparencies which is what it takes to display the high quality smoke and transparent buildings. Upgrade to a Voodoo 3 or better, I recommend an Nvidia card, because 3Dfx is no more, if you know what I mean...they've been bought out by Nvidia. 2. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Triggerhappy: While playing around with the editor recently I wondered why BTS chose squares instead of hexagons to visualize the battlefields. Since most turn based strategy games rely on hexagons wouldn't it have been an obvious choice for CM, too? Would it make any difference? What do you think? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> This is really the most irrevelent question yet. Because CM's movement and range calculations are calculated down to the meter, it doesn't matter what shape the "tiles" are. They could be rectangles, octagons, tetrahedrons, or whatever else. It still wouldn't matter because CM uses the above method for movement and ranging. This isn't Panzer General here. This is a simulation, not a traditional hex-based wargame.
  3. OK, but what I don't get is why people will even spend bargin bin prices for ****ty games. $10-15 bucks is still $10-15 bucks. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LOOONG life!"-Minsc, BGII "Boo points, I punch."--Minsc, BGII
  4. Hmmm, could be a bug. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LOOONG life!"-Minsc, BGII "Boo points, I punch."--Minsc, BGII
  5. I had a .50 shooting at the ass of a 234/1 at the range of maybe 50m and couldn't get a kill shot. Then finally the thing turned sideways and my .50 finally got the kill shot in the side of the 234/1. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LOOONG life!"-Minsc, BGII "Boo points, I punch."--Minsc, BGII
  6. Sorry, there is no "tank barracade" in CM. What you see is what you get. The reason there is no "sand" tile set is because this simulation theoretically starts after the beach head breakout, because BTS thought it would be a pointless scenario when a good portion of your men would get killed trying to take the beach.

It's alright, I'm Italian too, so I can say that.
  8. PS. Manieri, was that picture taken "before or after" you auditioned for The Sopranos???
  9. Go here -> http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ubbcode.html It'll show you all the syntax for UBB code. It is also the location under the little hyperlink to the left of the Reply box that says *UBB Code is ON.
  10. No, no, no. Use the 'img' tag instead of the 'url' tag. Like this: However you must use the http:// at the beginning. Do a "post with quote" on my post to see the syntax if you have to. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-02-2001).]

  12. No, the Panther G model doesn't have the correct polygon to host that file/image. Remember that all these textures overlay invisible polygons. So the way the G model was built it lacks the side skirt polygon to "hold" that texture. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LOOONG life!"-Minsc, BGII "Boo points, I punch."--Minsc, BGII

We're coming up on 175 THOUSAND posts in about a year and half time. What other game board have you seen with as many posts as that? Hell, there's been threads on here that have had more posts than whole other boards combined, but that's the Peng aka Cesspool Threads, that's a different story. Not to mention BTS has THE best customer support in the business. We find bugs, BTS fixes them! There have been FIVE official patches with a SIXTH in the works that have undergone FOUR beta patches already. Trust me, you won't get screwed with this game. But I sense you fear the "on-line only" marketing, but don't worry lad, you're safe with us. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LOOONG life!"-Minsc, BGII "Boo points, I punch."--Minsc, BGII

It's the sequel to the original D&D Gold Box series from '88. It's like BGII, but with a 3D mesh for the terrain. The characters/monsters look as detailed as painted D&D miniatures. And it's turn-based as per the P&P game with a drop-down orders menu system very similar to CM's. Turns can be timed down to a psuedo real-time feel. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LOOONG life!"-Minsc, BGII "Boo points, I punch."--Minsc, BGII

  16. Well I think where some of the hostility comes from can be split up into two viewpoints. One is the FPS fans come to this game and they make comment on CM's "sub-par" graphics based on what the latest FPS can produce. But on the reality side of things is that FPS games don't push nearly as many polygons as CM does. They just push a little bit with extravagant textures on the ones they do push with usually the FastFile format. Which is an apparently optimized method to do that. This benchmark can be tested even with an average 400-500 MHz computer right now. A computer of such CPU speed along with a comparible video card from 16MB to 32MB can handle any FPS quite well. But put the same system up along with a large CM map and hi-res textures and you'll see just how much VRAM and CPU CM takes to run well. And secondly for the RTS fans, they come here, at least they did at first back in the Beta days, wanting CM to be a RTS game. With a game as complex as CM with lots of things going on all across the board, there is definately no way a human player could keep up with and make strategically sound judgements if CM was an RTS game. You see, CM's Tac-AI even makes up for what a human player would try to do in an RTS, by giving the units and men a conscious of their own to remain alive. There is no way a human can "click" faster than a computer. So therefore most RTS games' AI has to be dumbed down to compensate for this. CM doesn't have to sacrifice any AI, because the player can take as long as he/she wishes before hitting that GO! button. I suppose others will chime in sooner or later. But that's my take on the subject. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LONG life!"-Minsc, BGII
  17. I think maybe it's "the pot calling the kettle black."

  19. In a scenario, I had a 6 pounder AT-Gun behind a hedge that overlooked a wheat field "killing zone" and it was shot out by a StuG. So where does the routed crew run to? Straight through the hedge and into the wheat field towards the enemy. Now this may have been due to how the scenario's "friendly" map edges were set up. Now if so, this makes sense, but shouldn't the AI take over and realize that it's running straight towards the enemy as per the "taking cover AI" tweak? ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LONG life!"-Minsc, BGII
  20. Not bad, actually. Fenders could use a bit "dirtying up", though.

  23. This topic maybe already dead, but here's my final opinion. Isn't the greatest ship in anyone's fleet now the Aircraft Carrier??? A Carrier full of planes has more firepower than any BB. Granted the BB was the supreme battlewagon of years gone by, but smaller faster escort type ships have come about with as much firepower as what the post-WWII era BBs had. I'll take a couple radar-controlled Phallanx mini-guns as anti-missile/aircraft defense anyday over all the small AA guns on a BB.
