1. No no no Lorak. It must be a tan, khaki, or olive green Tee for it to look right. Not white! And Weisredau, I hereby credit you with being the first to originate this idea. ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 2. I've seen 0.50s take out halftracks and armored cars and even some open topped TDs. Awesome weapon. Too bad it only has 40 rounds in a standard QB. But I have not seen any other MG in the game do this. The HMG42 would be the most likely candidate to also do this, but I've only seen it take out a jeep. Can they destroy HTs or open topped TDs or even Greyhounds? What about the vickers? I have yet to see them do any damage to any vehicles (except the kubelwagon). Yet they keep firing at them as if they can. M1919? They keep shooting at vehicles too. Not sure they actually kill anything, but they fire merrily away. Perhaps they're only trying to button up the tank/APC? Can they penetrate the APCs? If not, then seems a waste to target them with the M1919. Thanks [editted to say I did the requisite search but found way too many hits to search them all] ------------------ Jeff Abbott [This message has been edited by Juardis (edited 01-04-2001).]
 3. Vomitmeister, we have no time or motivation to follow through with the idea. Hope someone else picks up the flag and carries it though. I think one of the best pictures would be an actual screen shot showing lots of action, lots of smoking wrecks, preferrably a building as it is collapsing with the shock wave coming from it. You could put "balloons" over select squads with various phrases such as - I'm hit, auf geben, aaaaah, don't fire until I give the order, bloody hell, the list goes on. That would be my favorite scene on a T-shir/coffee mug (OK, it'd be a big mug) ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Mr. Clark: Just yesterday I was thinking about designing a CM patch for myself, BTS, and some of my opponents/friends here at the forum.

Hey, buddy ol pal, how's it going? -suck up mode on- I always look forward to your posts as I think they are some of the bestest. Matter of fact, I vote you most popular poster (MPP) -suck up mode off- Do I get a patch now? ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 5. Havermeyer and I had this discussion a while ago. Our idea was that we could open up a shop here on the BTS forum pushing "tchoske's" (sp?). CMBO coffee mugs, T-shirts, pens, mousepads, posters, sticky notes, printer paper (for when you print out your map and mark it up), etc. I'm reminded of the movie Space Balls where they were marketing the movie IN the movie. Seriously, neither one of us has the wherewithal to follow through on the idea, but if someone would I'd order a T-shirt, sweatshirt and coffee mug without hesitation. I was thinking along the lines of the artwork on the manual cover or someother such thing. ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Wesreidau: I just found out that if I use single-chip mode then this mouse jerkiness suddenly stops. I`ve also had a few freezes when using FSAA modes - tried every driver available. Any thoughts?

Yep. You answered your own question. With dual chip FSAA rendering, you are essentially rendering the scene twice if on 2x FSAA and 4 times if on 4x FSAA. Now, couple that with fog, smoke, high res mods, infinite horizon, and 5000 points of stuff that can be seen on the map and you're gonna get stutters when scrolling around the map. Single chip reduces the number of times the frame needs to be rendered but also looks like ****. I think one solution would be to beef up your cpu. That's my next solution since all I have is a celeron 500. The other obvious solutions are to crank down the detail (smoke, fog, and transparencies of any kind are particular bandwidth hogs) or use single chip like you noticed. ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 7. Never seen the problem you're describing. Sorry. But I have had to switch to single chip rendering for some of the larger scenarios where I kept getting "white outs". Makes you appreciate 4x FSAA all the more. ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by Mr. Clark: Immediately, my tanks start brewing up from enemy tanks located on an open street (straight, easy shot) directly to the side of one of my main forces. These tanks are located almost AMONG my second force.

I know the scenario of which you speak and have talked with the scenario designer about it. Basically, in the real battle, your tanks were shielded from that street such that you could fire smoke across the river (like I'm sure you planned ). Anyway, the solution is to put a copse of dense woods at the end of the street so that you do not lose them in the first turn (at least not from the tanks in the street). Overall though, I like Wild Bills scenarios simply because of the instant action. Makes the 1st 2-3 moves extremely important and unaltered by arty. ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Bastables: This 'feature' has been in since the beta demo.

Really? Damn, and I thought I was an observant fella . Thanks for that little bit of info. ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 10. At least as far as I've noticed that is. Was playing with 1.1b24 tonight when I noticed that one of my units was firing at an enemy infantry unit. I knew this because of the tracer fire. However, I did not see any target lines emanating from any of my units. I traced the tracers back to my Sherman. Apparently, and someone feel free to correct me here, you cannot tell where a tank is firing using the target lines if the tank is using it's turret mounted 50. I would use target lines drawn to my units to see who the hell was target me. No longer if an enemy tank is using his ma deuce. Gotta love the subtle nuances of this game. Life just keeps on getting better. ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by dog6880: i keep hearing people talk about watching it again or something like they can go back and review a turn after the game. any ideas? thanks [This message has been edited by dog6880 (edited 01-02-2001).]

What people are talking about are PBEM games. Since you are constantly swapping files with your PBEM partner, the 60 sec of mayhem must be recorded - for each side. In a solo, hot seat, or TCP/IP game there is no option to record your game. Sorry ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 12. I had an engineer squad on point walking down a road. Sure enough, they ran over an AP mine. Killed or wounded one unlucky soldier. Well, they kept on walking but about 10m further down the road (but I'm guessing still in the mine tile), I see a satchel charge being tossed over their shoulders and onto the minefield. The satch exploded, minefield go bye bye (as in cleared). Cool. I was always under the impression that I had to stop next to a minefield and spend a few turns there to clear the field. This was with 1.05. Since I never experienced engineers at work, is this the way their supposed to do it? Are AT mines harder to clear (as in, do they have to stop and spend some time next to an AT tile)? ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 13. Yeah, 3.95$ per month to read a forum I visit maybe 2-3 times a month is not going to work for me. I wish them well. But imagine this. Suppose BTS were to charge 3.95$/month to read and post here. Would you? Me, personally, probably not since the newsgroups are just as viable. Same with CombatSim. The newsgroups contain a lot of the discussions that go on in the CS forums. I doubt their business model works, but I hope for their sake that it does. ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 14. Just read your interview in CGW (I think it was that one, could've been PC Gamer since I get 4 different mags at about the same time). Anyway, had a pic of you in it. You look, well, not at all what a uber-programmer is supposed to look like . You're supposed to have a long scraggly beard from never having the time to shave and shower. You're supposed to have sunken eyes from never sleeping. You're supposed to have tomato sauce around your mouth from not having time to cook anything so you just order pizza. But you look clean shaven, well rested, and well fed. If I didn't know better, I'd say you have a real life. Egads man, thousands are counting on you. Enough with your life, get on with the programming Seriously, good interview. And happy New Year. ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 15. Crawling is moving from one place to another while keeping your ass low But you knew that already. Seriously, crawling is just moving with maximum protection. Sneaking is what you order when you wish to remain unseen. Warning. Use sneak at your own risk. Unless it's been tweaked in the beta, sneaking will cause your units to move within meters of an enemy unit (if the terrain is right) without them returning fire. ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by DraGoon: Hi My only real concern as far as the game goes is that the British troops would lose their only squad level armoured carrier. If you were to change the British vehicle to the M5 rather than the M5A1 (as in one of the betas) then that's fine by me, and probably more realistic anyway.

The kangaroo is an armored squad carrier. ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by General Petrovsky: And then eventually they stop, either mid-game or near the end, I even had one guy quit in the second turn because I nailed one of his tanks. He never returned the game file and then after I sent an email to him asking if he got it he comes back with he doesn't like CM anymore and that he doesn't like the way the TAC AI works and all this BS.

General, if you don't mind me asking, what was his name? I've played a couple people on theblitz that sound like this, but we managed to finish the game (even though he bitched about the TAC AI a lot). I ask because I wish to avoid him. You can email me if you want. BTW, you want a rematch from out St. Lo battle? ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 18. Ahhh, German vs. American. That's the difference. Did not know that. Thanks.
 19. I seem to recall that each flamer carried 10 "rounds" of ammo. With 1.1b24, it is now 6. Am I remembering wrong or was it reduced. If it was reduced, when and why was it reduced. Not that it matters too much since my flamers die before ever getting off a shot anyway, but just curious. Merry Christmas ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 20. Still Christmas Eve here (9:30 am to be precise). But...close enough for government work. Merry Christmas Battlefront.com and CM'ers everywhere. ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Pak40: Suppose the KT isn't positivly idenified as a KT. Will the sherman still use his tungsten knowing that he may be wasting it on a lesser tank? Is this factored in CM?

Good question. Matt? Steve? Charles?
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Jeff Heidman: I was wondering, does anyone else actually get butterflies in the pit of their stomach when they are about to open up a movie file from a particularly tense PBEM game? Or is it just me? Jeff

I wouldn't call them butterflies, but I do feel a certain amount of excitement (like on Christmas morning almost). Then I usually watch the movie and that excitement rapidly turns to Anger. ------------------ Jeff Abbott
 23. I've recently come to the realization that, for me, a higher rate of fire is more desirable than a fast turret speed. The situation that brought that point home was a recent PBEM game I had. I had this Tiger, unbuttoned, hunting up a road. All a sudden, 4 target beads converge on it. 2 from zook teams and two from tanks. As I watched with great anxiety over the next 40 sec, no less than 4 shells bounced off the Tiger while several missed. Each American tank (a M4A3 and a M10) got off 2-3 shots while my Tiger never fired. At the end of the turn I was still alive (yay) and still targeting the M10 about 300m in front of me. My turret didn't even have to move. So next turn I give the reverse order, but with it being regular quality that order was not going to be carried out for at least 13sec. So in the meanwhile I'm still targeting the M10. I got off a shot at about 10sec, missed, then died from an M10 lower hull penetration. In the end, the M10 got off 3-4 shots to my one shot. That is NOT good odds and one of the reasons I hate buying Tigers (this was a canned scenario, so I didn't buy it). Give me high ROF over fast turrets anyday of the week. Anyone else think this way? So now my question. Are there any German tanks that have a high ROF (other than the light tanks that is)? ------------------ Jeff Abbott
