It would also be no surprise to me if UA pilots had started training months ago and it was only announced because some indication got out that it was happening.

It took a week from Britain's "we will start training UA pilots on trainer aircraft in the summer" to "UA pilots are already flying F-16s in Poland".  There will be zero surprise on my end if it turns out that UA pilots are so talented that they manage to finish their training in a month or two from now, just in time to participate in offensive against the Russian land bridge.

Probably this. If the drones are the cause, then this is a very important observation. In trench warfare there is the phenomenon of "race to the parapet", i.e. the attacker tries to suppress the defender with artillery, but the barrage has to lift some time, and then whoever is first at the parapet of the trench either bombs the defender emerging from his dugouts with grenades, or shoots the attackers in the open. If the defender can be driven away from the trenches and into shelters by drones, the race is unwinnable for him. As opposed to artillery barrage, the drones can stop lobbing grenades into the trench when the attackers are just a few metres from it. And there is no need to spend thousands of artillery shells to achieve this!

Like a good horror movie.  You know it's coming, but if the writing and direction are good, it still catches you by surprise.

But you missed half the point: Ukraine has been using largely the same equipment with their mirror army and have done well with missile defense. If it’s a question of integration, it still comes back to competent Ukrainian missile defense vs. much less competent Russian defense.

Latest Perun video.  Fits in nicely with the recent thread discussion on anti satellite weapons.

National idea is that, which makes fighters moral high and gives more understanding for what they fight. As you can see, more tough units, are those, which have some ideology in own circle. We fihgt not for abstract "bright future", not for "EU membership" and even not for "western liberal values". We fight for own survival first of all. Like a state and like nation. All other - membership, values, "shield of Europe" maybe also important too, but secondary. So, either somebody want this or not, in this war of senses we will use our senses and symbols, which will inspire and which will cause propagandists madness of our enemies. I think, 1,5 years was enough to see who is who and who is real nazi.

Ok let’s play “How Many Reasons Why Russia May Open Up Negotiations That Are Not An Immediate Sign Of Defeat” - all the College Boys chime in.  I will start:
    - Shifting the strategic narrative/reframe the war in an attempt to demonstrate that they are the reasonable ones and start down a road to victimology that may appeal to certain political parties in the west who have their heads in warm dark places while they listen to “experts” with big mics, empty heads and a serious lust for more money and power.
    - To create uncertainty in the European alliance and NATO as some nations just want this to be over and renormalize.
    - A ploy to pull China into this in some sort diplomatic tag team. China enters the side of “Putin the Reasonable” and leverages it towards a win for them both.
    - The Russians simply stall for time in a hope to slow down the UA in a hope for a battlefield reverse.
    - To play up to a domestic audience, with never any real intention of ceasing the conflict.
    - Because Putin is finished and we wind up negotiating with a bunch of separate goons, none of whom actually represent the Russian people.
    - Putin is not finished but wants us to believe it and over reach.  Link to playing for time and dumber political machines moving into power.
    - Random irrational objectives that we can only guess at.
Now just for you - go look up Dunning-Kruger and think about it for awhile. And did you just walk into Steve’s house and tell him to shut up and sit down?  Seriously, how does that get right on any political spectrum?  And we are at Ignore.

Just to get back to a long running theme:
Ukraine seems to be turning out these kamikaze quad copters for ~$750 according to published reports. Even if the militarized version from a Western defense contractor comes in at TWENTY times the cost, that is $15,000 to kill an AFV without even poking your head above the berm. So you have to be able to stop these little monsters, or your mechanized forces are just really expensive, really stinky, bonfires.

    Some variation of this: https://www.amazon.com/Curad-Tubular-Stretch-Bandage-Dressing/dp/B01BLQ8ANU
It's an easy way to hold the absorptive or sealing bandages in place on things that can be a pain to wrap, like arms and heads.  I have two different sizes of it in the medicine cabinet for road rash bandaging, since you typically get road rash on joints that make them hard to bandage and keep usable.  It's way faster to hold the pad in place and pull that over his head than to do a bunch of turns with vet wrap.
(eta: and I haven't actually crashed and needed to use it since I bought it, so it works really well.)
(another edit: I checked on the box and the "large" size for legs stretches to 24" diameter, so it would cover just about anybody's head, except maybe putin's)
